This day last year

12 months to the day when Pearson was sacked then reinstated. Who would have thought we would be where we are a mere 12 months later. What a crazy topsy turvy year we have had as fans. Great escape, Thai sex orgys, Japs and the craziest of seasons in living memory.

Wow a thread about past and present not prediction thread about what will happen in 2029.

When we may have been champions a dozen times and won a dozen CL's.

About this sacking and re-appointing. I was told by someone at the club it never happened. Apparently one of the owners was having a rant about the loss which was overheard by one of the press who then ran the story. It was just a rant and no action was taken and as such when the story broke a few hours later the club were taken by surprise wondering where the story came from.

Any one know if there's any truth in this?

the three teams above us in that image were all demoted and 3 of the top 4 made CL.

What I dont get about this also.  If you look at the table, I know its one game less than where we are this season but look at the points total for the top 4.

Last season it was 56, 49, 45 and 44 off 24 games.

This is season its 53, 48, 48 and 47 off 25 games.

There is barely a difference in the overall points tallys this season than to last but no one complained last year that the league was rubbish and that all the sides were inconsistent with their results like they are this.   It was more or less identical last season!

People are only saying that because we are top. If you swapped us for Chelsea now I can pretty much guarantee not one person would of said the league was rubbish this year.

That hair length suits her. She has a good face though a crap taste in men.

If we win the league, the "big" clubs will probably vote for us to receive points deduction, ground closure and expulsion from the league....

I imagine there'll be a "first the worst second the best" rule

We had 17 points.

Villa currently have 16.

Villa are 8 points from safety at this point we were 5 from safety and our worst I think we were only ever 7, that is a huge amount of points for them to make up with the other relegation candidates picking up points too it still doesn't look good for them. They have to get past at least one of Newcastle, Swansea, West Brom, Bournemouth, assuming Chelsea, Watford, Palace and Stoke are safe. Sunderland have also improved recently, last season taught anything is possible, but to gain 8 points on Newcastle, who have invested heavily in January when you average 0.64 points a game is going to be tough.

Tbf we then finished 6 points clear so we had a swing of 13 points on the drop zone, which leaves Villa 5 points to play around with...

The difference between us and Villa is our team should never have been bottom.

Villa just don't have the players that we did.

But much tougher teams to catch. We over took Shambles Park Rangers, A Colliery 11 from a small northern town, and 'Ull to stay up, and then Villa, who stayed up by the skin of their teeth and are a much weaker team this season, and two teams who Villa are now trying to catch, escapologists Sunderland and money bags Newcastle.

Could this Villa said make up 8 points on QPR, Burnley and Hull? I'd say "Yes".

Norwich, maybe, but Sunderland make a habit of escaping from relegation and Newcastle have bought some real quality and look like turning it round as do Swansea, Bournemouth are probably most in danger of being this seasons 'Ull, but I think they will stay up.  Villa have very little chance.

You're most likely right, just being a bit of a devil's advocate.  Not over til it's over etc.

Pearson and his backroom staff were all under the impression they'd been sacked. Sky Sports (and Rob Dorsett in particular) wouldn't run a story like that without very very very strong sources. Dad wanted them gone, son changed his mind.

what a strange evening that was. was it gary linekar that went mardy on twitter claiming the son sacked NP but the father reinstated them or vice versa? if only we had the plane tracking topic then!
