Eriksson’s days at Leicester date back to when they were at the bottom of the English Championship, yet now the Foxes are on top of the English Premier League table and look to be the favourites to win it.

With the remarkable turnaround, Leicester almost look certain to play European Champions League next season and Eriksson had the utmost hope for their success.

“The owner has been very important for Leicester, when he bought the club, people were wondering why he was interested and why did he buy that club,” he said.

“He’s genuinely interested in football and he wanted to make Leicester a big club and there they are, they can win it.

“I really hope they will win it that would be really sensational, it would be great for the Premier League.

“I think they have a good chance, they deserve to be where they are. They’re playing very good football, they’re very aggressive and working very hard,.

“They have a striker (Jamie Vardy) who scores goals for fun so I really hope they win it.

“Congratulations to the whole club, I phone them some times to tell them that.”

lol

It doesn't say whether there's somebody on the other end actually picking up the phone or not. lol

"Who's that on the line now?"

"It's that funny Swede again. You know, the one who claims he once worked at the club"

*Collateral laughter ensues*

I thought this was a throwback to the time the club actually did this. Answered my phone "hi Sven here".

This.

Obviously a nice bloke but awful manager. Pisses so much money away at clubs

Ditto was sure this would be a thread about that.

I don't see the issue if Sven wants to ring the club and congratulate us, he was nice enough and it'll serve as a neat little reminder about how you should approach investing in a football club.

I love Sven, his foundations he built at the club are a big part of our success.

ha! are you being sarcastic? He brought in Kasper and a decent other good players (Vitor and Abe)but i wouldn't agree his foundations are a big part of our success. I remember there was hardly any team spirit or togetherness shown now in his squad.

I liked him, some of the football we played was fantastic but we didn't have the consistency. I think he was unfortunate in that the owners were new and wanted promotion by any means and it didn't look like happening but the style of play changed in his second season. The Millwall game was so bad, however.

His last game for us

Leicester 0-3 Millwall

Nice man but a dinosaur of a manager.

the 7 or 8 games in jan/feb where we would've won the champions league if we were entered were amazing. didn't we win 7 and draw 1 in 8?

that win at Derby with them two incredible goals, that annihilation of Barnsley with 4 goal of the season contenders in one match, waghorn in the last minute vs Bristol city etc. was so sure we were going up after that two month spell. that's not even thinking about the draw with man city either.

apart from that it was mainly shit like.

He didn't have a clue. That season we spent a cool 15 million under Sven, more than West Ham, who spent 10 mill.

He assembled a squad of misfits including Danns, Fat Johnno and Beckford.

Beckford....

With what he spent we were always going to win a few games and look very good in them. But he had no plan, no vision and seemingly, no discipline. The day Sven get replaced by Pearson was a very important one for this football club.

Funny, that's more or less what many fans said about Ranieri when he was appointed.

100% right.

The only things Sven did do was to give the club some worldwide publicity profile, and sign Kasper.

Some of his signings were very poor for an experienced international manager. How could he be taken in by an expensive load of old has beens looking for a last pay off?

I also wouldn't be surprised when he phones, he doesn't give himself all the credit for our current position!

Some football we played was very slick, however once we got found out we had no plan B.

The recruitment was strange too, we signed a lot of good individuals who couldn't work as a team. There was obviously talent but they just didn't gel together, philosophy and mindset wasn't taken into account.

Pearson comes a long and instills this gel-ing and positive atmosphere and takes us to where we are today.

The foundations he laid at Leicester City were similar to the foundations the Americans laid at Hiroshima, everything had to be thrown away or rebuilt apart from a couple of players. He's clearly a nice bloke but I think had I earn't 2-3million quid from the owners of our football vlub for the that job I'd be ringing them every week to say thank you as well.

The man is a con artist and in any other industry he would be on the dole.

I'm sure he was joking. I can't believe anyone thinks that.

We've moved well on from Sven. Brought about a lot of excitement at first, and in fairness to him it was justified as we played some very nice, attacking football. Sadly when given pretty much a clean state he made a mess, paid mediocre Championship players Premier League wages and had seemingly no plan. Highest spenders in the league and started the first game with a 32 (ish) year old Darius Vassell on the wing. Thanks for the acknowledgement Sven but this bloke held us back.

Put Ranieri's past ten years against Sven's and there's not even a comparison. Greece was a disaster, but the clear outlier. For Sven that would be quite a standard job of his nowadays. The bloke is a con man.
