Strokes Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Yeah you could be tempted, if you were mental. Mutu's fine was about 4-5 years' salary. Also football is not a sport that lends itself particularly well to doping in that: A) It's a team sport B) it's a highly technical sport That's not to say it doesn't go on (I'm pretty sure it does) but I do think you would have to be pretty stupid to go after marginal gains like that of your own accord given the extraordinary financial exposure you could face. Footballers are not renown for their common sense though are they?
ClaphamFox Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Mutu got banned for taking cocaine. Not performance enhancing Nonsense. It makes me absolutely fantastic at everything.
Guest ttfn Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Mutu got banned for taking cocaine. Not performance enhancing It doesn't change the fact that they'd be in breach of contract.
sphericalfox Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 How often do you hear about people caught and convicted for it though? The only British footballer currently banned by Ukad is for cocaine use, not performance enhancers, so if it's as inevitable that a small number of people do it as you say (and I don't recall many people having that opinion about top level football before yesterday) then that can only mean we need to be a bit more concerned about the efficiency of the agency that's supposedly in charge of stopping it and ensuring fair competition. I didn't just point out that it was top level, and again it's going to be a minority. There should be concern that the agency put in charge of finding cheats does so, and make it public when it does, absolutely, and if anything comes from this rubbish, that it pushes them into doing a better job and is under more scrutiny that it does.

Captain... Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Bringing in the names of any clubs based on completely unsubstantiated comments from a known scum bag liar with no independent evidence is shocking from the ST. The story should be about the doctor and what he was offering to do. They either shouldn't have printed the story and collected hard evidence or not mentioned anything specific and just exposed the doctor.

Hopefully Ukad will take this as a prompt to squeeze the man, get evidence, and punish those involved.
MrSpaM Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 We've put out a statement now saying the doctor in question has never been involved in the club or any of our players Edit: Somebody's already posted it

They either shouldn't have printed the story and collected hard evidence or not mentioned anything specific and just exposed the doctor. On a moral basis, I completely agree. But the media has always been a cut-throat industry and is even more so now, given declining circulation, massive financial losses etc. Put it this way: I've just been to the local shop. It had loads of copies of every Sunday paper apart from the Sunday Times, of which it had zero copies. I'm assuming they'd completely sold out, based on this doping story.
bovril Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 You have to feel sorry for the owners really. It seems like every two weeks for the last 18 months some kind of fire has needed fighting.
ARM1968 Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 So does anyone think our squad will be unaware of this or the clubs statement. Doesn't take much for mud to stick or thoughts to spiral. We're at the business end of the season and the margins are even finer now.
Jace Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Looks to be completely false story, the doctor isn't really a doctor and would be facing criminal prosecution anyway, the Sunday Times reputation goes further down the pan
Larry_LCFC Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Top story on bbc news now. The doctor has said it was medical treatment and not performance enhancing and the substances weren't illegal. Add that to the fact there is no actual evidence and it becomes probably of the most comical and desperate articles ever made.
mugshot Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Dont see how this is credible....non story Dr Bonar doesn't specialize in sports medicine according to the Ultra-Wellness clinic he supposedly works at: His specialist interests include Womens & Sexual Health, Family Planning, Sub-Fertility, Menopause & HIV Medicine. He is also an expert in Restorative, Anti-Ageing & Regenerative Medicine. He works in close collaboration with his business partner, Dr. Terry Loong, who is one of the UK's leading Aesthetic Doctors specialising in Treatment for lines and wrinkles, Dermal Fillers, Derma-roller, Chemical Skin Peeling & Facial Contouring. The GMC has said: These are serious allegations and we will follow them up as a matter of urgency. We expect all doctors to follow our guidance - if they fail to do so they are putting their right to practise in jeopardy. Dr Bonar does not currently hold a licence and is therefore unable to practise medicine in the UK. Any doctor without a licence who continues to carry out the privileged duties of a doctor is committing a serious breach of our guidance, and potentially a criminal offence. Also same Doctor: Name: Dr Mark BONAR GMC Reference Number: 6067923 Area of practice: London Planned dates: 11 April 2016 – 15 April 2016 St James’s Buildings, 79 Oxford Street, Manchester, M1 6FQ The Medical Practitioners Tribunal will meet at St James’s Buildings, 79 Oxford Street, Manchester, M1 6FQ to consider a new case of impairment by reason of misconduct. The Tribunal will inquire into the allegation that Dr Bonar provided care and treatment to Patient A between December 2013 and January 2014. It is alleged that he failed to take overall responsibility for Patient A’s care and to ensure that there was a clinician with overall responsibility for her care. It is also alleged that Dr Bonar failed to inform Patient A that there was no option for curative treatment for her cancer. It is further alleged that Dr Bonar administered total parenteral nutrition when it was not clinically indicated; he failed to adequately monitor Patient A, he failed to obtain Patient A’s informed consent for treatment despite the fact that she had the capacity to provide it and he failed to work with colleagues in the interests of Patient A. It is also alleged that Dr Bonar failed failed to seek the services of Macmillan nurses or other suitable palliative care and he failed to manage adequate medical records. The allegation may be amended as the hearing proceeds and when findings of fact are made by the Tribunal.
Nalis Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Hmmm, gonna try not to concern myself with this too much until we hear about any hard evidence in the public domain.

Which is what he told the undercover guys in the video that he can say to justify it in public having confirmed to them on camera that it's definitely about using illegal performance enhancement steroids in their particular case.
Carl the Llama Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 The released video can be seen here for anyone who missed it.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 The important word in the headline is "alleged".
NewburyFox Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Why is this not in the Leicester forum given we're not only mentioned in the article but have given a statement on it?

Matt Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Sky News: The Doctor at the centre of the sport doping scandal has had his contract terminated, his clinic reveals. Press Association: Omniya Clinic terminated Mark Bonar's agreement after it was revealed he does not have a licence to practise medicine in the UK.
The Blur Posted 3 April 2016 Posted 3 April 2016 Am I the only one who are baffled at lack of the impact of the article? I know the evidence is patchy but that have not stopped people making a big deal of news before. I was expecting to get slated on Facebook or for people on my newsfeed to make a bigger deal of it but the only mention I have seen of it was in a football group.
