MC Prussian Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Here are the first few teams from the third qualifying round that could feature in the group stages: Manchester City FC Porto Villarreal CF Borussia Mönchengladbach AS Roma Olympiacos Viktoria Plzen Astra Giurgiu Shakhtar Donetsk Ajax Amsterdam Fenerbahçe Sparta Prague Steaua Bucharest AS Monaco BSC Young Boys FC Rostov RSC Anderlecht AEK Athens/PAOK/Panathinaikos (they have a silly UEFA champions mini-league still going in Greece, AEK are currently in first spot with four more matches to go)

These are astonishing, great times!

Some big names there - Man City, Porto, Villarreall, Porto, Anderlecht, Ajax, Roma, Gladbach. Would be better for us if some of them drew each other. Ha, look at us talking about who could be better for us in the fvcking Champions League lol

Ha, look at us talking about who could be better for us in the fvcking Champions League lol All the teams are put into one of four pots based on their co-efficient (we would have been pot 4 if we didn't win the prem). One team from each pot makes the group up and no team can be drawn against another from their own nation. This site appears to have all the teams and pots sorted (it makes some assumptions about who gets through the qualifying rounds but is a decent guide): http://www.footballseeding.com/european-cups/champions-league-seeding-16-17/ So going by co-efficients, we could be in a group with (worst case) a Madrid team, Basel and PSV or (best case) Leverkusan, Ajax and Besiktas. We will likely have the lowest co-efficient out of all 32 teams at the group stage.

Guest Bilo Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Pot 1 now confirmed besides the CL title winners Atletico Madrid/Real Madrid Barcelona Leicester City Bayern Munich Juventus PSG Benfica CSKA Moscow Unbelievable to see little old Leicester City in that kind of company.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 After winning the PL, I wouldn't disown our chances of actually winning the Champions League to be honest. Superbly ambitious but you never know as this season has proved!
Lestoh Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 All these mammoth clubs then fvcking Leicester City, what is happening
peach0000 Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 no. I meant that stage of qualifying for the Champions League. Not the actual group stage. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016–17_UEFA_Champions_League That page explains it well, its fairly complicated. It seems to be set up so the teams in that round who are champions in their country get an advantage over those that have qualified finish 2nd, 3rd or 4th in their nations.
N8 Fox Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Does anyone know when the match dates for the group stage are announced? The group draw is on Friday 25 August but apparently the fixture list isn't known right away
Gerard Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Assuming Real Madrid win the CL and the highest coefficient teams get through the qualifiers the draw will be this: Pot 1: Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Benfica, PSG, Juventus, CSKA Moscow, Leicester Pot 2: Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Man City, Sevilla, Porto, Bayer Leverkusen, Napoli Pot 3: Basel, Shakhtar Donetsk, Tottenham, Olympiakos, Dynamo Kiev, Lyon, Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Pot 4: Anderlecht, Sporting Lisbon, Victor Plzen, Club Brugge, Celtic, APOEL, Besiktas, Bate Borisov Ideal Group Leicester Porto Olympiakos APOEL Nightmare Leicester Atletico Madrid Dynamo Kiev Sporting Lisbon
Brainy Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Does anyone know when the match dates for the group stage are announced? The group draw is on Friday 25 August but apparently the fixture list isn't known right away I thought it was almost pre determined so like the team from pot 1 play pot 3 away, then pot 2 home, pot 4 home, pot 4 away etc.
CosbehFox Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Does anyone know when the match dates for the group stage are announced? The group draw is on Friday 25 August but apparently the fixture list isn't known right away Normally sorted that afternoon after the draw in the morning
CosbehFox Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 I thought it was almost pre determined so like the team from pot 1 play pot 3 away, then pot 2 home, pot 4 home, pot 4 away etc. It's not because of potential clashes with games in the same city/region and the TV companies like q good split too
bovril Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 There's always one random, surprising bunch of upstarts from E. Europe and I reckon it could be Astra Giurgiu in 2016, looked decent against West Ham reserves last year and leading a pretty strong Romanian league. I guess their games would be played in Bucharest which would mean easy tickets a-plenty and a good piss-up city.
harpendenfox Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 I'm reading this glorious thread and can't but remember that summer when we announced that major double signing of: JOSH LOW AND ANDY JOHNSON

FoxFossil Posted 25 May 2016 Posted 25 May 2016 Which day is the draw, does anyone know? 25th August is a Thursday not a Friday. Thursday 25th or Friday 26th? Already nervous.
WesMorganGod Posted 25 May 2016 Posted 25 May 2016 Morgan won the Championship (1st place) Morgan saved us from the biggest relegation comeback in history of the premiership. Morgan won the Premiership (1st place) Now whats left for him is the Champions League, and he is gonna do it. I just know it. I believe in him and I know he won't let me down, Champions League is ours, expect Europes best strikers to get totally dominated by him, just like Aguero and Kane and Lukaku and the rest do in the prem by him. Nothing can stop the journey now. Morgan is GOD. wad blown.
Dan Posted 25 May 2016 Posted 25 May 2016 I didn't realise Club Brugge are in the groups. That would be superb. They give some silly allocations. Pretty sure Birmingham had 10,000 there although that was in the Europa.
Corky Posted 25 May 2016 Posted 25 May 2016 Hopefully we'll have none of the 2000 UEFA Cup fiasco where the opposition were listed in their country's language. Saw we drew Crvena Zvezda and was delighted we'd got some unheard of Bulgarians or Lithuanians and not the bloody European Champions from nine years before.
