Guest Bilo Posted 15 May 2016 Posted 15 May 2016 The most important thing is not to get dumped out at the group stage, especially not in fourth. Partly because fourth place would mean we wouldn't even have Europa League football after Christmas and partly because Forest fans would daisy chain one another into a coma for a generation.
bovril Posted 15 May 2016 Posted 15 May 2016 I meant in terms of CL progression. Getting out of the group would have been far, far harder had we finished second. Winning the league was obviously unbelievably special for more reasons than that - I'm just talking in context of the thread. You are forgiven....

If that does happen then the simple reply is "at least we got to travel abroad in 2016 rather than Burton".

I'm happy we've got 6 Champions League games to experience. The players will be over the moon. Everything else will just be a very welcome bonus if by February 2017 comes we're still in European competition!

Everything else will just be a very welcome bonus if by February 2017 comes we're still in European competition! I think we will be. We'd either have to be utterly awful or ludicrously unlucky to finish fourth in a group from Pot 1. Only very poor performances or a genuine group of death would make that happen in my opinion. Third could happen if we got a tough draw, but even that would put us in the Europa League knockout stage.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 15 May 2016 Posted 15 May 2016 I know we can't predict how we'll fare when the groups havent been drawn but I'd be disappointed if we didn't make the quarters. I can't believe I've said that!
StanSP Posted 15 May 2016 Posted 15 May 2016 yeah. I agree. I'll be very excited when the groups are drawn, let alone when the matchdays come about!

The thought that we could have a decent European run and blow their already fading-from-memory achievements out of the water warms the cockles of my heart.

Guest Bilo Posted 15 May 2016 Posted 15 May 2016 I've remortgaged to fund it Kayak and Hostelworld apps have already been downloaded for me. I'll probably become quite familiar with European train services as well - seeing as flights directly to cities in which we're playing are likely to shoot up in price.

I'll do all 3 always but some might be sport ops day trips if they run them for our fixtures
Guest Bilo Posted 15 May 2016 Posted 15 May 2016 I'll do all 3 always but some might be sport ops day trips if they run them for our fixtures Do it yourself. More time consuming, but might work out cheaper. If, for example, we got Bayer Leverkusen away it'd be quite easy to get a flight to Dortmund with Easyjet (not Leverkusen's closest airport, Dusseldorf is) and take the train through to Leverkusen. German trains are cheap and regular, so it'd be easy. It's also close to Cologne, about twenty minutes by train, so you could club together with some lads and find a cheap hostel there rather than pay inflated prices in Leverkusen, which is tiny. A bit of a faff perhaps, but worth the effort if you'd rather spend your money on German beer.
CosbehFox Posted 15 May 2016 Posted 15 May 2016 I think you get 20% of your country's coefficient. So with England on about 75 we'd be on 15, which I don't think would get us out of pot 4, but it might depend on who else qualified. I imagine 15 is a pretty high coefficient for a team of our European standing. Correct but pot 3 is about 90 to 50 roughly
Dan Posted 15 May 2016 Posted 15 May 2016 I'd actually quite like to get Roma. Rome is one of the world's great cities and one would hope we'd have earned a modicum of good will via the Ranieri connection, moderately reducing the risk of being stabbed in the arse. I think they'd be the more beatable of the two Italian teams on offer as well. Just imagine witnessing this in person as well.
MC Prussian Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 Still have to wait at least until Saturday to find out whether it's CSKA Moscow or Rostov as Russian champions, as both teams won today, maintaining a two-point gap with two more matches to play.
CosbehFox Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 Pot 1: Barca, Leicester, Real Madrid, Juventus, Paris St Germain, Benfica, CSKA Moscow, Bayern Munich Pot 2: Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Manchester City, FC Porto, Napoli, Sevilla, Bayer Leverkusen Pot3: FC Basel, Shakhtar Donetsk, Tottenham, Olympiakos, Dynamo Kiev, Lyon, Villarreal, Ajax Pot 4: PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, Club Brugge, Red Bull Salzburg, Besiktas, Viktoria Plzen, APOEL Nicosia, Celtic
foxfanazer Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 Worse possible Athletico Shakhtar PSV Best possible Dortmund Ajax Celtic
whoareyaaa Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 Stil can't believe we are in pot one in the champions league. Mental.
foxy boxing Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 pot 2 looks just as good(tough) as pot 1,does anyone really want to travel to kiev or donetsk(or wherever they will be playing)being in pot 1 weve missed the creme de la creme of european football
Dan Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 In terms of progression PSV Eindhoven would be a horror one to run into as your group four side. They're a bloody good side.
purpleronnie Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 Couldn't care less if we got fc timbuktu we're in the frickin Champions League!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MPH Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 in my best possible angry keegan voice... I'd love it, love it if we got Spurs! Actually i really wouldn't Worst: Leicester, Arsenal, Tottenham, Celtic How boring would that be? no foreign lands or beers tasted there! Best: ( AKA easiest) Leicester, Porto, Lyon and Viktoria Pizen. Pizen gets the nod because i havnt ever heard of them so they cant be that good........ But i do predict we will bid for and sign at least one player we will play against in Europe this coming season...
