FoxInTheBirstallBox Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 Still can't belve that we are in a situation where this thread can be a possibility But after the results today, there is every chance we could get athletico in our group Now I wasn't old enough last time to remember it but I have seen enough videos for me to say I wouldn't want a repeat of that! So what teams are you hoping to draw in our group? I'm hoping for malmo ajax and anderlecht!

bovril Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 Just went on wiki to check the teams qualified already. Group stage: Leicester City. Fuuuuuuuuucccccckkkkkkkking hell.
st albans fox Posted 8 May 2016 Posted 8 May 2016 could really do with somewhere within a drive from Calais and a Ryanair/easyjet destination.
Shelf Side Spurs Posted 10 May 2016 Posted 10 May 2016 Thought you might be interested in this latest update https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016%E2%80%9317_UEFA_Champions_League The draw for the group stages is in Monaco on 25th August, the most interesting stuff is towards the bottom, in terms of who has qualified already and at which stage they enter competition....The Spanish league and this years CL final is massive in terms of who goes into the top seeded pot along with you. Assuming Barcelona win the league and Real win the CL (definitely not a given) you would avoid both in the group stages....and no country can have another from the same Association in the group stages or last 16....Some fantastic nights coming up this Autumn. Good luck... see you in Cardiff!!

We really don't want Real Madrid doing the double.

I think Real might struggle to win either competition.....they looked poor against City (although they didn't have to get out of second gear) and Atletico will be out for revenge, they might be able to take advantage of Marcelo being a loose cannon. Barcelona have an easy-ish last game away to Grenada in the league they should have enough.

How do you view the CL, do you want Barcelona or would you prefer the Dutch Champions or another weak Pot 1 side?
NewEnglandFox Posted 10 May 2016 Posted 10 May 2016 Also as a byproduct of qualifying we're in the UEFA Youth League. Players must be born on or after 1 January 1998, with a maximum of three players per team born between 1 January 1997 and 31 December 1997 allowed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016%E2%80%9317_UEFA_Youth_League
Shelf Side Spurs Posted 10 May 2016 Posted 10 May 2016 How do you view the CL, do you want Barcelona or would you prefer the Dutch Champions or another weak Pot 1 side? Well in our only other appearance we had Inter Milan, who were the defending champions at the time, having done the treble (under Mourinho), Werder bremen and FC Twente. We won the group and Bale announced himself to the world...then went onto beat AC milan and lost to Real Madrid in the quarters. I think you just have to embrace it and enjoy it.....it was a bit of a fairy tale for us at the time to break into the top 4....and give it your best shot whoever you get. Seems to me that the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and City have already got a bit complacent in the group stages and the fans don't always turn up. That won't happen at Spurs or Leicester and I'm actually looking forward to having a top team like Barca, Bayern or Real Madrid come and play us at WHL or Wembley depending on what happens with the stadium build. It's great to go through of course and financially the further you get the bigger the rewards.Sooner or later you're going to get one of Europe's elite, but to be honest, if you play with the same passion as this season i think you could go a long way. Wait until you're there, hear the music and watch the teams come out.....it's bloody fantastic, especially if you can tickets for the away matches.

Just looking back at your season in the UCL, it's fair to say you struck it absolutely lucky with the teams you got. Italy (x2), Holland, Germany, Spain. Easy away days, good grounds, amazing experiences. If we can replicate a draw like that I'll be happy.

Yeah, I was lucky enough to get tickets for the San Siro twice...Inter have one end, AC the other and also the Bernabeu...plus Inter at home, one of the best games I have ever seen, especially for atmosphere. You'll find that the results sort of don't matter, unless you get embarrassed I guess. It's just fantastic to be in Milan or wherever with your fans, singing before the game, plenty of beers, the whole scene. Brilliant times, supporting your club, you'll all love it.

Being in Pot 1 I'd imagine we should be slight odds on to progress to the last 16. Hopefully we'll get someone like Olympiacos in Pot 3 and some shithouse in Pot 4. I'm planning on going all the away games but I' only a Gold member so I already know I won't get a ticket. Hopefully we'll draw Kazakhstan Champions or some other backwater to keep demand down to a minimum. I may have to go the corporate route but I'll be there one way or another.

Go anyway..you'll pick something up and worst case scenario is get a ticket with the home fans next to your section or family/safe area. I've done that at PSV Eindhoven and Basle....no problems and there were loads of Spurs fans around the San Siro and in Madrid. make friends with those around you at the start and you'll be fine. The corporate route is expensive, save your money for beer and grub.
IOWFOX Posted 10 May 2016 Posted 10 May 2016 Ajax missed out on the eredivisie after only drawing at the weekend, means a trip to Amsterdam is back on the cards.
Foxxed Posted 10 May 2016 Posted 10 May 2016 It seems written in the stars that we'll get Athletico in our group. Only a three month wait until the draw!

I reckon you're possibly better off against teams that will let you play....Atletico crush the space. You'd have more chance against a Real Madrid type side where Kante, Mahrez and Vardy had space and pace to operate?
UPinCarolina Posted 10 May 2016 Posted 10 May 2016 Watching Atletico and Leicester square off would be like looking into a bizzaro world mirror.
Bourne Blue& White Posted 10 May 2016 Posted 10 May 2016 I think we will end up playing Roma at some point.
Chester Dontlie Posted 10 May 2016 Posted 10 May 2016 What a nice topic. Champions League, man. Dilly ding, dilly dong. I wonder if posting here will wake me up.

Our play is normally counter act, so if they go for possession, we should get enough chances. That said, this is new territory here!

Them missing out on the title makes it more unlikely as it means they have to qualify. Either way they were likely to have been Pot 4, highest Pot 3 as Dutch Champions get no Pot 1 protection.
