LCFC FOX Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 I'd take him for nothing more than 15 million... Would prefer Musa and Slimani mind!
Jonezy Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Long seems to be a perfect fit for our style, but he is going to cost the bonkers and not even sure he would want to come after becoming a regular for Southampton....
SpinneyHillRanger Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Would be good backup for vardy but not for £25m.
cjslcfc Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 So so under-rated. He's Okazaki on steroids. £25m is a bit steep but no less than we'd ask for one of our main players. At the end of the day he's not worth that but is absolutely a player I'd be looking to buy!
sphericalfox Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 If he has a decent Euros he might be worth the outlay, and to be fair most those that have been suggested would be better cost-wise will be a little busy in the AFCON, at the season's busiest period.
Bamba's Babes Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 £25M is a lot of money, anything less than £20M and I'd be comfortable
dannythefox Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Always said long would fit in here but I wouldn't pay more than 15/16 million for him.
bluesbrothers Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Would be an awesome signing, the man has a proper eye for goal. Dunno about the price they're asking, mind you - there's no guarantee he'd get straight into our squad. Think he'd be fighting with Ulloa to be third choice. We absolutely need one more striker though - sorry to say but I'd say the odds of Kramaric coming back and getting into the side are about 5000-1. I think we can do better but why would they sell? He's a big part of their squad it seems? It's Southampton, selling integral members of their squad is what they do best!

Do you think we would pay £25m for someone who couldn't get in the team ahead of Okazaki and not even guaranteed to be first sub ahead of Ulloa?
FoxinNotts Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Shane Long would be a great upgrade on Okazaki. Would be well happy with this signing. Surely it's not likely tho!? Also, £25m is over priced. I'd go to £12m max.
Tuna Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Problem is you have to look at a potential signing and say where will this player be in 4 years time and what resale value do you have? He'll be 33 at the end of a hypothetical contract with no resale value and a player who will be clapped out by then. Anything over 15 million would be obscene.
foxfanazer Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 Silly season has well and truely started. Long is a good player but £25m! lol
Kitchandro Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 No. He doesn't score enough goals and a goalscorer is what we need. Would be a waste of money considering the plethora of options we will have now.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 22 May 2016 Posted 22 May 2016 From his Wiki page Shane Patrick Long (born 22 January 1987) is an Irish professional footballer who destroyed the germans plays for Southampton and the Republic of Ireland national team as a striker.
Thracian Posted 23 May 2016 Posted 23 May 2016 One of my sons is a Southampton fan (for whatever reason!) and has long sung the praises of Shane Long describing him as a real danger. For all our incredible success we're woefully short of support scorers.
m4DD0gg Posted 23 May 2016 Posted 23 May 2016 25m!!! They paid 7 only 2 years ago. F that especially for 7 goals a season. This logic dictates vardy is worth 75m
HighPeakFox Posted 23 May 2016 Posted 23 May 2016 No tar rather milik slimani I think that's taking things a bit too far....
Out Foxed Posted 23 May 2016 Posted 23 May 2016 One of my sons is a Southampton fan (for whatever reason!) and has long sung the praises of Shane Long describing him as a real danger. he should get a job as a scout with that sort of incisive observation
dylanlegend Posted 23 May 2016 Posted 23 May 2016 He just reminds me of a slightly better Nugent or slightly worse Vardy, but if Walshy wants him Fair play
Babylon Posted 23 May 2016 Posted 23 May 2016 29... no way... we need some younger blood up front and at the back. We can't continue to sign players all around that age bracket, we're walking into a big issue a few years down the line.

Players like Long & Vardy though seem to have longer careers though due to there fitness & the engines on them. Both players have a good 3/4 years left at there best I reckon.

If we're spending that kind of cash we want it on someone who is 25 or under on a five year deal that has a resale value. I really like Long as a player but I'd be sick if we spent £25m on him for a few reasons.
