Babylon Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 Just wondering guys, this business about Slimani playing in an inferior league, where fi Kante, Mahrez AND Vardy come from? Don't see anyone complaining about them now. Missing the point as per. I've not said don't buy people from other leagues, I'd never rule out any division. The point was trying to compare stats from different leagues... It's not that sumple.
artursteppe Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 Don't know why we are even talking about Slimani being as there has been no link with him even contemplating signing for Leicester or us even really looking at him. Have you been in hibernation? Wrong on both counts! Offer reportedly refused, and it has been reported that he favours a move to Leicester, much the same as the situation with Deeney.

WigstonWanderer Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 I've come to the conclusion that it's no good comparing what we have to pay for a player with what a traditional top 5 club have to pay, even now having won the PL. It must just be down to prestige that players would prefer the bigger clubs. This means they are more likely to kick off if their current club won't let them go and that would effectively reduce the transfer fee. So player X might have been bought by Man Utd for 20m, doesn't mean we could get him for the same price, if he would come here at all.
Babylon Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 Couldn't agree more. We know what we are getting with Deeney - we dont with Slimani and Musa - yet folks seem perfectly happy to spunk over £20M on these players yet are shocked when we offer it for Deeney - a player thats proven he can succeed at all levels domestically. On top of that he fits our style of play and has the right attitude and work ethic - what more could you want! We'll go for a Musa or a Slmani as well a some point. We just won't do it every time.

HighPeakFox Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 For the record, I think Ulloa has to be listed under the heading of 'Fancy foreigner'. Being all foreign and that.

There has been nothing concrete on Slimani from any decent source that I've seen.

artursteppe Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 Yes, really. Sorry I do not have any links. Maybe you heard the one about Slimani's manager saying that Slimani would get double the goals of Vardy in the Premier League, because that was reported as well. (Although, let's face it, that is definitely BS).

artursteppe Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 There has been nothing concrete on Slimani from any decent source that I've seen. Portuguese press had a front page headline that Leicester had offered £20M which was turned down because it did not match the buyout of £23M. It was about a week ago.
foxes21 Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 I don't buy this 'he plays in a shit league so might not be good' So class players like Brahimi, Srna, Moutinhio, Tevez, Akinfeev, Embolo, Ziyech, Slimani, wouldn't improve us? Behave. However, moving to the prem is about the mindset, as much as it is about ability & physicality. That's why some of these class players do fail, they don't work hard enough to adapt to the prem. But due to Slimani's background, he would work his bloody socks off to be the best he possibly can. Hard work is in his DNA, like it is in all our players & also Deeneys.
artursteppe Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 OK then guys, some of you are winning me over. Let's play safe and pay over the odds for a striker who is OK, and English, rather than an International player of obvious quality who happens not to be English. It is so obvious that so many people on here, simply because they have never seen Slimani, are desperately trying to convince everyone, probably including themselves as well, that we must buy someone whom they have seen play, because to them it makes no sense to buy someone they have never seen play. Is there anyone out there who has seen Slimani play saying that Deeney is better?
psychonaut Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 Slimani has more goals at international level than Deeney! so chew on them potatoes. Moot point as Deeney has never been tested at that level.

Actually it was in response to people saying that £20M is ridiculous for Deeney but are perfectly happy for us to spend the same if not more on Slimani. The fact is we have seen Deeney succeed in this league so therefor represents a less riskier acquisition.
goose2010 Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 why are people starting to question our recruitment policy now? I don't get it no one knows better than Steve Walsh's team so let them get on with it.
TheReaper87 Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 Who's to say he would be brilliant for Bristol City? He could move over to England and hate the culture and lifestyle in Bristol and ultimately not put in the effort and be piss poor. Until a player comes to England and proves his worth then there is always a risk of a quality player not performing here. Even Messi. (in fact Messi at 1% of his capability would still be Bristol Citys best player ) Far superior than Barcelona, don't know what your implying
Nick Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 I genuinely could see Troy fitting in with the team ethos, dressing room, spirit too - I think thats a great consideration, after all we didn't win the league because we have the best players, we won by playing the players we have to their strengths combined with an incredible team spirit.
GaelicFox Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 Okazaki didn't play the Okazaki role until he came here. Slimani is physical and hard working, could easily play off Vardy but offer a greater goal threat that Ulloa and Shinji. Deeney is less risk but he's an inferior player imo. £20m+ is way too steep. Might just be saying that because Slimani is foreign though of course In Walsh we trust
Finnegan Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 Missing the point as per. I've not said don't buy people from other leagues, I'd never rule out any division. The point was trying to compare stats from different leagues... It's not that sumple. No and that's what we've got an expert team of analysts for who've done pretty ****ing well so far. The only exception is Kramaric and actually I think he looks a good player who'd score at this level, he was just a daft signing for us in terms of playing style. If Kramaric had been at a premier league club with his alleged hype and potential he'd have cost four times the amount. The prices here are just insane.

Plus, Messi - come on he's a no one - Brian Timnion and 'Jacki' Dziekanowski shit all over him!

mozartfox Posted 10 June 2016 Posted 10 June 2016 Nicky Maynard was a Bristol legend and look where he is now..................

Yes and they are the ones I trust, If they believe Deeney is better value, ticks more boxes then so be it.
