Facecloth Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 Big Sam to be named as the new manager in the next 24 hours according to SSN.
Leicesterpool Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 Congratulations to Big Sam he's finally got his dream job, got nothing against the guy but what an uninspiring appointment. The Fa have clearly lost there ambition.

Will1981 Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 Best man for the job will keep things simple as the quality of English players is not good enough for anything more complicated.
Kilworthfox Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 Fabulous appointment from the F.A. One that I am very suprised at however, as the F.A who have imo have lost their way regarding English football identity with their intent of copying spanish and German football philosophies, have gone and appointed a manager whose first instinct will be to win the match, rather than maintain possession. Wonderful news
Trav Le Bleu Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 As I've said before, at least we won't be relegated. Looking back on previously successful England managers before they were appointed... El Tel - won La Liga, Copa De La Liga and FA Cup. Bobby Robson - won League and Cup. Sir Alf won the League. Big Sam - won League of Ireland and kept a few teams from the trapdoor. Uninspiring.
Great Boos Up Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 But he doesn't even look weird or have a speech impediment! And he knows about the modern game of football, this is just not England at all!

Wonderful news i suppose if you want terrible football but the possibility to maybe get to the 1/4 finals then its a pretty good appointment.
Dan Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 At least it's a move on from copycat football. He's not a top bracket manager but he'll know our strengths and play to them. For me he's a bit of a back to basics kind of manager and I think right now we need that, because we are shit.
Matt Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 Better than Hodgson, mind you my dog could do a better job than him. Won't stand any shit and will pick form players hopefully, It's not an amazing appointment but he'll do.
Webbo Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 Competent , with some decent players. Good luck to him/us
Jay Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 Reasonably happy with this, the biggest mistakes we made in the summer was that the players were clueless at what they were meant to do, were badly organised, we failed to consider how the opposition would play and they were poorly motivated. pretty sure allardyce will sort all those issues out.
RowlattsFox Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 Andy Carrolls chances have just improved. I don't think he's a great manager at all but I do think he's the sensible choice at this stage, especially if you want English. People like Sam always say they would win more things if they were given better jobs with better players. He's likely to choose a system and stick to it. I won't expect too many surprises with his first squad, I suspect it will be familiar names.
Izzy Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 I remember feeling similar when we appointed Ranieri. A little surprised, a bit MEH, not particularly thrilled or excited, but just curious to see how it works out. I wish Sam well and I hope he makes a success of it - but I won't be holding my breath....
Soar Fox Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 I'm not bothered about winning qualifiers 4/5 nil or playing possession football. All I want is an England manager who picks players who are playing on form for their club team & put players in their strongest position no matter who they play for.
davieG Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 English managers have little or no chance of winning major honours unless it's the FA or FL cups which doesn't mean diddly squat as it takes a few games and likely o be one season wonder anyway
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 Yep, I'd be pleased if Allardyce gets appointed. He's tactically good, plays to his team's strengths and overall I like him. Speaks a lot of sense to me.
