Meh.

Tbf I thought meh about another appointment just over a year ago :claudio:

I said from the start he'd be the right man for the job, but I never believed they'd actually consider him.

The England team needs a manager who is prepared to give the players massive bollockings and keep the egos in check: Sam is that man.

Fvck tactics and systems - it's all meaningless unless you can get your players to actually put a shift in.

Good choice, underwhelming many who have been saturated with big names and pedigree.

Maybe the FA have finally seen the light and buy more into long-term development than short-term success.

Who know - maybe England under Big Sam can finally find back to being a tournament nation?

Big Sam, proper manager. You can just picture him on the back of the England Coach tucking into Steak and Kidney Pie and Chips.

In theory the right appointment as a decent organiser - I'm a little concerned that he hasn't managed a player you'd want in a top 6 PL team for about 10 years (arguably Alex Song is an honourable exception).

Then again, if you think things were bad under Hodgson when it comes to picking favourites, if this story's anything to go by it might not be long until we see an entire England XI of players represented by Big Sam's agent.

I'd probably believe that story more if his career hadn't continued on exactly the same path Sam predicted... He's essentially moved to Rome, not playing any football, said he's leaving twice and not managed to find a club... Still there now, not featuring at all.

Russell Slade at a struggling Cardiff terminated his loan and said he had no future at the club despite him then being available on a free!

England are dire need of short sharp shock, let's face it we are absolute shite at tournament football and have been for decades.

Right here and now Sam's our man.

Nothing says confidence in a manager then a 2 year contract. Lol. Woy had what a 4 year? Woy you absolute mugger.

Hope big sam of all people turns us into a proper team again and does the impossible  (win the word cup)

  • England managers should be paid on a sliding scale instead of an annual salary, the more successful an England manger is the more he is paid but the worse he does the less he is paid. It would be much more of an incentive to make the right decisions and pick the right players

Hodgson would have ended up owing the FA money lol

Find it incredible that anybody that follows football actually thinks Sam is a long ball merchant.

He plays to his teams strengths, you just need to look at some of the stuff West Ham were playing under him to see that he plays systems that suit the players at his disposal.

Very happy with this appointment. Hope he lives up to my expectations and doesn't become some turgid boring predictable manager

His time at West Ham was a fallacy. I'm convinced if you gave Big Sam Payet and a couple of other sensible signings, they would have had the same season.

West Ham fans love to bang on about playing style and that he didn't deliver on that during his time at Upton Park.

This season West Ham against the lower sides have improved a lot and this is largely helped by a player who appears against the poorer defences but flounders against the top sides (Payet).

They have got results this season against the top sides (Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs) but it's normally when they play Plan B. And that Plan B? Cresswell or Antonio crossing for Carroll.

So nothing as really changed....
