I didn't see or notice him till he was subbed

I'm sorry but he isn't a starter anymore

decent lad to have in squad and his loyalty has been rewarded which is good

Worst player on the park. Play him in a 3 or with a CDM behind him, but not in a flat 2. Sad to see him outrun by mediocre Championship players today.

Couldn't agree more. The game passes him by. Way too lightweight.

It's amazing given the bashing i got on here to see so many agree. Look, I don't want to complain about any player that plays for us. Remember the season before last when i said Nugent was the weak link in the side, and i got slated for that? Maybe it just takes some of you a little longer to see that Kingy isnt up to it at this level, and in honestly saddens me. Central midfielders all have a specific attribute which you label them as imo. What is King's? He is good at passing sideways and backwards. Once he was a goalscoring midfielder 0, now he is a less combative Joe Allen. The lad doesn't have it no more, and i'm not happy to say that, although those that disagree will probably critisize this point because of who made it, rather than its contents. Too slow, too lightweight, too 'ordinary'. I dont blame King for this, starting with a midfield worse than what we ended with, is, quite frankly, piss poor management. I see Gueye had a decent debut for Everton.

Said this for a while, but been slated on here.

Think he's well out of his depth now, and is not combative enough, and goes missing more often than not.

The lad is loyal, but we cannot be keep him out of sentiment, for me he's a championship standard player

To rub salt in the wound Gueye had an absolute stormer for Everton as their DM. Funny how Everton bought him as soon as Walsh left.

No matter how bad he may play in any given game, I can't hate him. He's done too much good and helped us through so many lows and achieved so much with us, I just cannot hate him. Yeah he might have had a poor game today, but tactically we rarely play to his strengths - just a victim of the formation we play. In a 2-man midfield and trying to fill Kante's shoes, it doesn't work for him.

But you can't slate him or his attitude. Could have easily left us at various points when we were in the Football League and Premier League clubs came calling. But no. He stuck with us and showed some loyalty to the club that gave him his chance. For that, I'll also never be able to hate him.

You can't set up this team to play 'to King's strengths' he isn't the main man. He needs to play to the teams strengths. If he can't do that then get him out of the team. He didn't do that today, and to be honest neither did the rest of them.

It's game one. Hopefully it's a kick up the Arse and a reality check.

Regardless of who you play him with, he's not good enough for a top 10 team

He played 25 games last season in a title winning team.

He's not a starter for me. Coming off the bench in an attacking midfield position, ghosting in to the box unmarked, type thing.

He doesn't do enough. Ball winner? No! Creative? No! Top passer? No!

As much as I like and admire King, it's difficult to contemplate us going into a new Campaign as Champions and entering the Champs League with a midfield of King and Drinkwater. It just doesn't compute really.

Andy King is a squad player. He can come into a good side who are controlling games and look good. Get him (and us) on the back foot, he too often looks off the pace.

And how many of them games did he start? And how many did he have a big impact in?

Fvck me that is harsh.

I've got one really simply observation to make.

He's our number 10.

He was given that number for a reason. I'm not going to moan too much at a player that's playing out of position. I'm not expecting him to play in the Okazaki role but I bet he could do a better job there than as a CDM.

Club legend yes.  Should he start No.  Passing sideways all game and not being strong or physical enough is not good attributes to have in the premier league.  Squad player at best. Was poor today against Hull.  Why is it when he plays regardless of how many minutes he has played you always ask yourself, "Andy King what did he do?"

Posted

It is quite clear that Andy King is not a starter in the first 11. Unfortunately he isn't an impact player who can change a game when coming on as a substitute either. A great servant of the club, no doubt but as the English champions his position is untenable in the present requirement.

Posted

Realistically his best use now is as a sub for the final 12 minutes to eek out a game.

King today was asked to play a role, that is strange to him..He is an attacking midfielder, he is best when

asked to drive forward, not a defending roll.

That said he should be now taking things into his own hands, and demanding the ball, he is too passive

in his needs. We have Armatey who can hang defensivily, and move from the back.

Claudio got his set up wrong through midfield...but hey-ho 1st game and all that..!!

King seems to always pick the easy pass, sideways or backwards, that is possibly due to Hulls tactics giving no space but as a CM you either need creativity or protecting the back four. Unfortunately King did neither today. Good squad player but shouldn't be a starter

Its a weaker midfield pairing than what we ended the Championship campign with. We shouldve signed Gueye clearly Walsh wanted to.

Perhaps CR wanted to play a slightly different way and vetoed it - as I remeber he wasnt all too keen on bringing in Kante originally.

Im also not too sure what kind of player Amartey is - still seems a little nervous and unwilling to commit and take risks in moving forward.

Its clear that drinks thrives next to someone doing the nitty gritty whether Mendy is that player i'm yet to see. Actually im pretty sure he isnt so unless we're planning on going 3 across midfield I'm unsure as to what the management are trying do in this area.
