Gazza M Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 It was a solid performance today, just lacking that finishing touch from somebody. I would like to see a couple more come in before end of August though to add depth. By doing that we need players capable of starting straight off not prospects this time.
Merging Cultures Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Some of you need to remember what Ngolo's role was. Break up play and pass to DD.Ngolo wasn't spraying it all over the park. He was making sideways, short passes once he broke up play. We didn't use him too much as a box-to-box player, he certainly has the capability, nor did we use him to make decisive passes, that was/is DDs role.Ngolo was everywhere, breaking up play. But he wasn't a long passer or a goal threat. He did a lot of hard work which allowed DD to manage our play. I think Mendy has that capability. He got in yellow carded because he slowed their attack. He got injured by breaking up play. 100% pass completion by passing sideways? Brilliant. His job isn't to attempt long or technical pases. That's DD's job.
Merging Cultures Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 No chances? 69 mins, Vardy has a great attempt.
Livid Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Really good performance, unlucky to not get the win. Jury is out on Mendy, just couldn't seem to get into the game first half. Started to improve in the second half.

I don't think he's been particularly bad but he's not really imposed himself on any game yet, in pre-season or today. Early days though. Yeah, I agree. I said in the match thread that I'm unsure exactly what he offers us at the moment. Early days yes but he seemed to give away free kicks and took the safe/backward option with his passing. Maybe he's not completely confident yet and still finding his feet, but hopefully we'll see his true colours shine through over time.
SheppyFox Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Howard Webb claiming refs try to keep everyone on the pitch, here's me thinking their job was to officiate the game and keep things fair. He also claims the pace is too fast now days with the quick pitches and players, well if that is true and human beings are no longer capable of refereeing football matches at this standard then I say it's time for some technological help, because what happened today was a disgrace. If a player has a bad game, it's criticism from fans and pundits, if a manager has a bad few months, it's the sack, if a referee has a howler, there's some excuse and we're told RESPECT. I'm not being biased toward Leicester either, we've benefitted too from bad refereeing, but it isn't right and it isn't the good for the game, maybe sells papers though with all the controversy. ****ing Bollocks.
whoareyaaa Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 A lot of positives today, happy with the performance and we should have had 3 points, however a few negatives I think could be improved. The long throw is useless I still don't understand why we try it almost every possible occasion, it leads to us giving the ball straight back to the opposition. kaspers distribution is terrible at times I know we try and look for the flick on or for it to drop back to us but 99% of the time it leads to us giving the ball straight back to the opposition. Not it only does this put us under pressure but just waste any opportunity of creating something. other than that I thought we did fairly well
MurphyMagic Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 plenty of positives from that game. Second half was an excellent display and if we replicate that next week we will beat Swansea comfortably.

Started to improve in the second half.Mendy was injured 3 mins 50 seconds in to the second half.Pretty cool to see improvement so quickly.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 I normally rate Clattenburg. Pretty shocking today though. He started early by pointing out to Monreal, I think, that he had just committed a foul throw and actually demonstrated where he had gone wrong by lifting his leg off the ground, but he let play go on! I thought rules were rules irrespective of the time of the match? Bonkers. Coquelin should have been red carded and the Musa pen claim was 100%.
Kendal Fox Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Oh well, got the scoreline wrong (2-0) but at least I was right about us keeping a clean sheet!!! And it's encouraging that we were rarely troubled in the 2nd half, hopefully the backline is soon going to get back some muscle memory from last season. Just need to get the attacking side of things firing and the CM situation resolved. I still feel confident the new signings will adjust but I agree with a few others earlier in this thread that we NEED to sign a proven CM and another striker...

Quite bluntly we are crap , the players have no system.I am sure nobody is coaching them, and have totally no idea or plan. For proffis, lets face it, its pathetic.. In the last 3 seasons, its looked like we just have no thought Process.

oohaahmustafa Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Loads better than last week with Huth and Shinji back in the team. Shinji is massivly underated. Was suprised he got took off tbh..Musa looked dangerous when he came on. We miss Kante big time.
oohaahmustafa Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Also what was with the 'heightened security no ones alloud out at half time!' ..... proceed to allow everyone out at half time.
chili_con_carne Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Schoolboy error. Called the result but no bet placed
Guest Col city fan Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 I think people might be being a little too positive today. Yes, it was Arsenal (bogey team so to speak) and yes we didn't concede. But I said earlier, I was watching the stats as the game progressed and they were all pretty much in favour of Arsenal (except goals of course), whilst we had one or two shots on target throughout the whole game. I think the reality is that so far, we don't look bad, but we actually don't look too good either. I'm convinced we are missing a creative spark in the middle. The man who can open up opposition defences with one pass (like Fabregas did today). We just don't look right yet imo. But it's early days.
UPinCarolina Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Mendy's injury could be a blessing in disguise - what if it's what prompts the owners to make a higher-profile purchase in the midfield?

I think you're under rating just how good Kante was there. Not just his absolutely unreal tackling ability, but Kante drove forward with the ball- something that other centre mids found ****ing hard to deal with.

chili_con_carne Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 We replaced cambiasso with kante and now we are missing something in midfield. Mendy seems to be like King (a passenger) and is not someone to demand the ball and seems to shy away from things. I think we need a new midfielder. Vardy looks tired to me. I don't get why ranieri keeps playing him for 90 mins, he needs a rest. Why not take him off or start him on the bench.
