wignalll2007 Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 I think yesterdays game showed how poor our pre-season recruitment has been. We haven't improved our first team one bit. Mendy is no Kante. Musa looks good yes but he's the only one who adds anything different to last season. We haven't made enough of our elevated position, Champions with Champions league football coming up. We should have gone and signed some real quality!

Didn't we sign Kante after the season started last year? There is still time to sign 2 or 3 of quality players. Would love it to be Dragovic, Carvalhio and Slimani.

We'll never be able to get a like for like for kante as he's just so good at what he does, at least give mendy some time to get better. Musa is a good addition as is hernandez as both can come in and do good jobs plus don't forget kaputska who's yet to feature, he could be the real deal when he gets fully fit

Ridiculous

sdb Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 We have a squad that won the league and have added to it. We already have the likes of Schlupp, Chilwell, Was, Kaputska, James, Inler, RDL who can't get into match day squads. To buy more would probably do more harm than good (unless we find N'Golo's twin).

A CDM and a younger CB to develop would be useful, as would someone else who can play the Okazaki role. Looking at the MoTD highlights, I don't think that we missed out much on Gueye.

Not sure I agree....RDL, Inler not in his plans..James needs a loan to get game time back...Kaputska will not imo push for a starting place for a while....we definitely need 2/3 additions but real quality.......RB, CM and a number 10 would be my priorities

pazzerfox Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 I just don't understand why technology hasn't been introduced. We are the biggest, richest League on the planet and there is an awful lot at stake each and every game. It would have taken 5 seconds to refer that Musa decision to a video replay....Incredible.
RowlattsFox Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 Who should we spend millions on then? We may be champions of England but we are still Leicester City. I'd agree we are light in the creativity environment but we are only going to pay mega money if we are buying someone way overpriced. Established top players are not coming to Leicester city. Might be be worth a look into the loan market, someone who is not getting game time at one of the elite clubs.

Number wise we are exactly the same as last season in that position so I wouldn't be against a new addition but you do need to give mendy a chance...... Centre back we have just signed hernandez and we kept a clean sheet yesterday against arsenal, hardly huge cause for concern. The back 4 kept alot of clean sheets last season
Ted Maul Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 Performance was much more important that the result for me- we got a good one and came out with a well earned point too. Feel much more confident about the season ahead now! Still think we need a top CM, especially if Mendy is out for a while, but the signs are encouraging.
Max Power Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 Back to our old selves which is all I really wanted to see after last week. Okazaki, Huth and Drinkwater all excellent Challenge now is fitting Musa in the starting XI.
The Doctor Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 Watched MOTD and looked a fairly even game - first penalty, seen them given but didn't look like much contact, coquelin definitely should have walked and the Musa penalty was nailed on. Encouraging compared to 'ull
Phube Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 I love all the doom mongerers saying how we're nothing compared to last year... Yet we we lost this fixture 5-2! And we should have won this if the ref had eyes or balls!

Like it or not, last season was a freak season and we have to accept that. As fans we have to manage our own expectations. What we had to do was use the opportunity and take advantage of what we achieved and I believe that we did that. We've added to our squad and only lost one player. Probably the most important player though, which is unfortunate to say the least. But we should have enough to be challenging for European places at the end of the season. I would also like to see a couple of names added, we have a couple of players who, for all their hard work and endeavour, are limited in ability and don't have enough to make a step up to the next level. I think people are being a bit harsh on Mendy though. I thought he was just coming into the game when he got injured. That is a great shame because he looks like one of those who just needs a little time to adapt and now he could be out for a few weeks putting him further behind. In regards to yesterday, I thought we were slightly the better team and just did enough to deserve more than a point. Clattenburg has bottled it at the end, which is a shame because I think the result has clouded a few judgements on our overall performance. What pleased me and settled a few of my nerves was that we looked like the team of last season for the first time, including pre season. I think the pre season schedule has affected us and only now are we getting up to speed. The players we have are not used to all the glitz and glamour they experienced. Over the last few years our squad had been put through a gruelling pre season and come into the season as one of the fittest in the league, more apparent than ever last season. I don't believe we have done that this year. I'm happy with the performance, but that should have been the level we were playing at a couple of weeks ago in the Community Shield final. The ref has ruined that for us. But it has also highlighted where I think we could do with a few tweaks. Albrighton should have been taken off 10 minutes earlier. And, although I believe Mendy will come good and King looked pretty decent when he came on, we are short in the middle of the park. Vardy is a few weeks short of being as sharp as last season. The biggest plus is that we seem to have our Mahrez back, but if yesterday was anything to go by, he's gonna have 3 men on him every time, so it'd be nice to have a creative No 10 to take some of the pressure off.

ian_marshall Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 I must have been watching a different game to most on here but I thought Mendy was excellent first half. Not sure if people's opinions are based on TV coverage which if so might explain why people are saying he wasn't in the game, but having been at the game I thought other than stepping in to intercept the ball (which he admittedly needs to improve) he's about as close to his predecessor as you could wish for. His positioning was outstanding, and whilst he didn't step in to intercept he narrowed the angles brilliantly and really restricted the passing options open to Arsenal. I thought that was quite telling as Arsenal on their day will tear right through your midfield with neat one touch passing, but we didn't give them a chance as the passes weren't on, and when they were the midfield area was too congested and there was too little space to work in. Hopefully Mendy's injury isn't too bad but I think if he can just develop that ability to spot the pass and step in, we'll not even notice that a certain midfielder is missing. One final point, and this is something I felt even last season, is due to our style of play we are heavily reliant upon having a good defensive midfielder, yet we only have one in the squad. This needs to be addressed as one injury even short term could set us back in terms of our points tally and this season looks like it could be a lot tighter than last, so every point will count. Hopefully we'll do some business to address this issue in the coming weeks.
Corky Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 Coquelin should've walked for the second challenge, it was more blatant than Simpson's at the Emirates last season. But now we can't have players surrounding the referee to put pressure on him. Considering also that Coquelin got away with attempting to shove Mahrez off the pitch when being subbed in that game and he's been fortunate in recent games with us.
