Nalis Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Heard a wide range of opinions so thought I'd put it to a poll to see what the consensus was. Mods, feel free to move to the Transfer Section if neccessary....
Guest MattP Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Fairly well, still think we could have done with a top quality centre midfielder.
Oswinner Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Quite well, although it's hard to gauge until the new players have settled in. We don't want to buy too many players too soon. Our next three players we need will be a CM, RB and CB. CM is up in the air though because for all we know Mendy and Amartey could turn out fantastic and we won't need immediate improvement there if that is the case.
shen Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 In the context of keeping our players, we've done very well. We only lost Kanté which, although a hard blow, isn't the end of the world. Albrighton, Vardy, Mahrez, Schmeichel, Morgan, Chilwell and Drinkwater all signing new contracts with Simpson in the pipeline too is simply superb. Mendy could be an apt replacement, while Musa, Slimani, Hernandez, Kapustka and Zieler seem solid signings on the surface, but ask again in January.
Countryfox Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Nice to have got Keane, Deeney, N'Zonzi or Silva but overall not a bad bit of business. Overall pleased. Thought Curtis Davies was worth a cheeky offer.
ajthefox Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Only lost Kante, key players have extensions and we have added Musa, Slimani, Hernandez, Kapustka, Mendy and Zieler. I reckon if you'd given that deal to city fans before summer, the sane ones would have bitten your hand off.
Mark_w Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Average. £30m for Kante is a joke, and I don't think you can come out of a summer where you lose your best player feeling overly positive. But the majority of our additions so far look like they're going to fit in well.
Fox92 Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Difficult to judge as we haven't seen the majority of players we've signed but so far it's been average. Should have got more for Kante though.
brucey Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Not happy at missing out on Gueye. Why oh why didn't we bid for him? He's being amazing at Everton apparently Happy with Slimani signing, may well keep Mahrez here for longer than a season. Plus the excessive number of strikers available and rotating will lead to a lower average goal count per goalscorer. Might be easier to avoid our goalscorers being poached (Inc Riyad) if their individual stats are lower.
what? Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Only losing one of our title winning team was a pretty remarkable achievement in itself before you even consider the acquisitions we've made. Things could always be better of course but I think on balance it's we've been very successful. In a parallel timeline we've been gutted of all our best talent and are heading for relegation and obscurity.
Soar Fox Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Keeping a majority of the players together was a must and we have done that well. Kante going for £30 million is a joke when you see the prices that other players are going for. Though even if we had got £60 million we still couldn't have replaced what he does. Players in we'll have to wait & see. Zieler is an upgrade on what we previously had. Hernandez not seen much of him but what I have I've not been that impressed. Mendy see above, thought games have passed him by without him doing anything. Musa looks good, though I'd like to see him be more greedy and have a go himself. We know he can finish he shown that against Barca. Kaputska not saw anything of him.

Trav Le Bleu Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Better than we have perform in the thread title.
tsintskaro Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 not bad, actually good it would be great if they got - young rb,solid CM and number 10 i think they will get cm in next transfer window and maybe another defensive
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Very pleased. I feel we've invested with quality in the right areas. Another CM maybe, but we've got good enough options in that area for me.

Staffs Fox Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Cannot tell at this stage but it has the potential to be good, Kante is a huge loss but at least it happened early on. New Deals for Vardy, Mahrez, Drinky, Kasper and Wes are just as good as signings, Musa has impressed me and I think he'll be boss, Slimani will be class, Kapustka is one for the future whilst Mendy and Hernandez have hardly played so it's too early to judge, I do think we're light in defence though and an injury to Drinky could be catastrophic, Strange that we obviously thought we needed another CB because of our pursuit of Keane, quite rightly stepped away when the price went ridiculous but then we didn't go for another target.
Guest Col city fan Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 I think we've made a cracking signing in Slimani and I can't wait to see him play (the exciting signing I was talking about). I'm unsure about not getting Silva. On the one hand, if we had signed a thirty mill midfielder, we'd have felt compelled to play him (and then wouldn't have really seen whether Mendy and Amartey would have progressed). On the other hand, he looks SUCH a good player, he'd have instantly improved us I guess? The bottom line is, I trust Ranieri and I trust the owners. If they think we're ok, then I'll go with it.
Captain... Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 For building a squad to retain the title and win the champions league, we are a little short. To consolidate our position as contenders and make an impact in Europe we have done very well, we have signed some exciting players and improved the depth of the squad. This season we are going to be hampered by our first European Campaign and the AFCON, so realistically we are not going to have to wait until 2018 to win the league again, that will give the likes of Mendy, Amartey, Gray, Hernandez, Kaputska, Slimani, Musa time to gel and get with the teams philosophy.
sm1 Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Seem light at RB and midfield, but kept most of the squad from last season. So overall its been an ok transfer window. I suppose time will tell just how well we've done.
Tielemans63 Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Compared to how it could have gone I think we should be pretty pleased. There was a very real chance we would get ravaged but that hasn't happened. Shame about Kante but obviously the attraction of no European football was too hard to resist.
BluethroughtheMiddle Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Erm...we did unless I am mistaken, managed to sign the PFA player of the year did we not? And kept all but 1 of our premier league winning team, plus adding depth and quality? Other than losing Kante (which is undeniably a huge loss) we have done very well IMHO. The team was better with Kante in it at the time, we will miss him no doubt but he was NOT the single reason we did so well last season. He is the only loss but we have gained so much in Musa, Slim and Kaputska... 12 months ago we would all be spaffing over these signings. In CR we trust.
BluethroughtheMiddle Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 15 minutes ago, Worthington said: We've done more than OK in my opinion. Would have liked another CM in, but that can be addressed in the next 'window'... What is quite sobering is that, since Claudio took up the reins, we have signed: Kante: reported £5.6m Inler: reported £3.0m Benelouane: reported £3.6m Gray: reported £3.7m Amartey: reported £5.0m Iversen reported £700k Zieler: reported £2.0m Mendy: reported £13.6m Musa: reported £16.2m Kapustka: reported £7.5m Slimani: reported £26.5m Now, (allowing for any inaccuracies caused by some deals being 'undisclosed), Claudio's 'spend' so far is: £87.4m. Just to put that into context, I reckon that's just about equal to our total spend on incoming transfers for the period 1884-2015 ! Yebut we have NEVER won the top flight before and to maintain top level performances we need to spend similar money to the bigger clubs if we are also to play in Europe and play vastly more games per season. Last year we had little to no risk... this year the risks are massive if we want to be top 5-10 with the extra matches. IMO
dylanlegend Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 We lost Kante but apparently got 10m more than his release clause so for a judas who wanted to jump a perfectly rigid ship to go to a wonky one that's a good bit of business. Keeping Vardy, Mahrez, Drinky is a massive boost and statement to other clubs. This window has been different to recent ones however, we seemed to have signed quite a few for the future / squad players. Maybe that's just because the team is so good and we can't sign players that are better that what we have currently (as NP used to do) Biggest blow is arguably Steve Walsh but unlike Kante fair play he wanted to be near his family and contributed so much to our recent success. Overall, we've kept Vardy and Mahrez as well as making solid signings therefore compared to how it was looking this time last month is say we've done bloody well!
Foxbythesea Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Brang in some good players and got rid of a lot of dead wood at the same time which is very good. However would of liked us to bring in a top CM, RB and possibly a CB. We did manage to keep in all of our players from the title winning squad as well, (apart from Kante), so overall I think we did very good.
