Next up.. Brugge, away.... Thoughts

Shaken confidence going into this, looking more likely to produce a cagey CL opening performance .... But here's hoping, just hoping that the adrenaline rush of playing in the CL pushes up the tempo and desire levels back to last seasons!

If not, then I fear this could be a long season of 'home-truths' (but at least we will shake off a lot of glory-hunters!!!) ... time for return of the tinker-man?

Brugge are rubbish. The problem is we simply haven't strengthened enough IMO. Who plays RB now that Simmo is nobbled? When does Fuchs get a rest and does that mean we bring Chilwell in? And who would we replace Wes or Huth with, for instance? Wasa?

We don't look like a squad going into a Champions League campaign with a view to having a real good crack at it. Apart from up top...we could play one of about 10 strikers. lol

We should still beat Brugge though. I'd reckon they'd be equivalent to a decent Championship side wouldn't they?

I may get shouted down for this, but this might be an opportunity away from the pressure of the league to try a different formation and see how it goes?

Sure,a peace of cake it will be.

I'd keep today's XI, 1, because they earned this journey and 2, they have something to prove after today. If we get spanked again after playing half hearted hoofball then it's time for wholesale changes imo

Kasper

Hernandez

Morgan (if fit)

Huth

Fuchs

Mahrez

Amartey

Drinkwater

Albrighton

Vardy

Okazaki

the team that won us the league, should have enough about them to go out and redeem themselves after the disappointing performance yesterday. Go out there and give 100% for 90 minutes like we did every single game last season. Make the simple 5 yard passes, play with more tempo, take the chances when they come. Go out and play like Premier League champions and we should have more than enough for Club Brugge.

Also, stop fvcking panicking.

KS needs dropping. That performance was shocking. Sure, he made some fantastic reactionary saves, which we know he is one of the best at. But his distribution is awful and what the heck with this new 'sweeper keeper' trend? Stay in your box, dominate in the air and command your back line. Don't try to think you can run to the halfway line to make a tackle. I thought Hernandez did well at RB, certainly no worse than Simpson (who is probably injured), and his long throws are a real threat. I seriously hope Mendy is fit. Like most, I thought Amartey did well against Swansea, he certainly wasn't messiah like most thought though. Slimani needs to play. Keep Albrighton on for now, he deserves it, but bring Gray/Musa on if we don't look like much of a threat. Same with Mahrez, if he isn't in the game, get him off quickly. And that's what I want to see Ranieri do. No room for sentimentality. Yes, we retained players that won the league last season, but now we need to look forward. If they don't perform, drop them.

Zieler

Hernandez - Wes (if fit, Was if not) - Huth - Fuchs

Mahrez - Mendy - Drinkwater - Albrighton

Slimani - Vardy

You are aware Mane is as quick as anyone in this league and our defence is as slow as any in this league. Kasper saved us so many times yesterday with 2/3 reflex saves and off his line a couple of times.

Aside from one poor throw to Fuchs his distribution was good yesterday. He's prone to the odd error occasionally but he's in the top 2/3 keepers in this league for how good his technique is. Hes ambitious yes and sometimes the ball might go straight out but people are in for a huge shock if he's replaced  and we just have a keeper who lumps it as high and long as possible.

Zieler is back up and no more.....not in the same class as Kasper.....who yesterday stopped it being 7 or more!!

So many over reactions......we were poor and Liverpool good but mass changes will be panicking. We played at such a high intensity with momentum last season which was unlikely to be replicated especially as we need a plan B plus the top clubs have all improved their first 11's.

i think Albrighton and Oka will be switched out but I would hope Schlupp and Gray are given a chance if fit.

Really think the display and result in this game will affect us so much.

If we change formation and personnel (Mahrez) which is needed imo it could have a stirring affect and get us firing again whilst also reminding everyone that no one is unstoppable.

I actually think Claudio will put us starting in a 433 formation although I'd prefer 352.

433 means Vardy starts on his own as it will turn into 451 defensively or will be played out wide which we've seen before does not work.

Definitely either way need three in centre of park. Personally thought Amartey was poor yesterday and on the occasions he did win the ball he couldn't pass it straight.

Probably keep him in but judging on yesterday he has lot of work to do to remain a starter. I would put King in with DD and Mahrez in the hole.

If Simpson is injured I will be worried about RB. Hernandez is possibly only option and only thing I like about him is long throw. So I'd rather he play as a three not as a RB.

Start with

Kasper

Hernandez

Morgan

Huth

Albrighton

Fuchs/Chillwell

King

DD

Mahrez

Slimani

Vardy

Brugge haven't been playing well in a weak league, I think this is what we need to get our confidence back.  As they are the home team they will want to attack which will give us plenty more chances to play our natural game.  I would throw Slimani in from the start.

Zieler (rest Kasper if not 100%)

Hernandez Morgan Huth Fuchs

           Drinkwater Amartey

Mahrez Slimani Albrighton (if Slimani doesn't start then Gray)

                   Vardy

I think Kapustka, King, Slimani and Musa will start against Burnley on Saturday.

I'm not saying it will be a piece of cake. I'm asking the question of where would Brugge sit in the English Leagues? Realistically, I'd imagine the Championship?

Therefore, the champions of England would expect to beat Brugge.

Sod that, agree they got us there, but the have been rewarded already, massively for that, cars new contracts etc.

They cannot warrant a starting place on the back of last season, they have to earn it, and a lot have been found wanting.

For me, freshen it up, bring in hungry players who have something to prove, and wake up those first teamers who have been awful a kick up the arse.

Last season will always be remembered, but needs putting away in their minds, and remember what won them the league, a collective belief and hardworking mentality.

Brugge lost in their game yesterday and haven't had a great start themselves. Still hopeful we can perform and get a result.

Rested their three best players in the process - due to the Belgian league set up it something they can afford to do before every CL game

What the fvck is this earned this journey?

They got paid for last season with cash bonuses' and a car ffs. This is a new season with a clean slate even CR has said he will drop anyone not performing. Let's be honest a few last night must have a ? Hanging over them. Seems some people would accept relegation as long as it is last seasons players that do it

That may rather underestimate them. They are a CL team too.

I think Kasper returned too soon. Healing takes time. I wouldn't change too much similtaneously.

Zieler

Hernandez, Morgan, Huth, Chilwell

Mahrez, King, Drinkwater, Albrighton

Slimani, Vardy

Gray, Kaputska, Musa, Wasyl all on the bench with the first 3 coming on if no injuries.

We just haven't invested enough to make a serious challenge in the CL.

Why?..

We always said if Simpson gets injured we have no proper cover.. It's happened!.. Hernandez is NOT a RB!!

We haven't strengthened in midfield,  not securing a quality addition such as Adrien Silva / Stephen Nzonzi in the window was a complete disaster and we'll now pay the price.

Our squad is just not good enough... It's not rocket science!

We won't qualify out of our group.

This is the competition for us this season. I expect us to go for it in every match. Would like to see Slimani in and think he can link play like Okazaki. Players will be really excited to get started well. We must play on the break which means defending as a team and getting in Vardy and Mahrez. Musa will be experienced at this level so we should try to get him on at some point.

Yes that's exactly what I said.

Tricky one. Do you 'reward' the players that got us into the CL or do you recognise that one of the reasons for strengthening the squad was precisely to spread the workload and give players much needed rest?

I can see KS being rested, Amartey at RB. Maybe Chilwell at LB. King and Drinkwater in the middle, Grey to start.

My gut feel though is a largely unchanged team with all subs being used (score dependent).

Brugge = hull

that's what you would think reading a lot of posts on here

what happened when we played away at hull?

go in with the wrong attitude in professional sport and you get spanked.

no no player is going to want to miss this game. Claudio will struggle to drop any of last seasons starting 11 and retain their trust.  (Unless there is an existing plan in place where players already knew they wouldn't start on Wednesday which I doubt). I expect to see yesterday's 11 starting minus injury adjustments.

We we can have a bigger bench than premier league so pretty well the whole squad can feel involved on match day.

i fear demmi gray will either be snubbed or told to go out there and prove it second half.  If he doesn't show anything , he could well sit on the bench for a few weeks, even when we are resting players.
