weller54 Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 I can't remember us losing just one player that has had such a dramatic affect on the team and the way we play as 'you know who '.. Can you?
GaelicFox Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 In the history of English football has any top flight championship winning team ever missed one player going so much !! house of cards ......and Kunte was the whole bottom layer we Should have paid him 200k a week ! But FECK it Still champions
lcfc81 Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 Our run isn't even as bad as tottenhams at the end of last year! didn't they lose to Newcastle 5-0? you may well be right but give it some time and we'll see.
Fox92 Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 Izzet. Even Adams said we looked average without Izzet in the side. If he had stayed then perhaps we would have finished top 6 again. We lost Dickov too that summer but did somewhat replace him with a goalscorer in Connolly.
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 I can remember Lennon's departure having an impact. We always looked vulnerable seasons before when he was out injured. Never really replaced him for years after.
Nalis Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 I was going to mention Lennon too. We were doing OK under Taylor until Lennon left. The rest is history.
Sampson Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 Yeah Lennon is the obvious answer. Think we were about 5th in the PL under Peter Taylor but then collapsed after he left.
jammie82uk Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 Wow another thinly disguised Kante tread Christ we have had more on him since he left then we had while trying to buy him and the 12 months he was actually here Haven't we ran out of things to say how many more do we need to have on him?
filbertstreet Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 we've been shit ever since junior lewis left
worthosoriginals Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 We beat Swansea without him... Chelsea drew to Swansea today with him. Conlusion: we don't need him.
Izzy Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 I recall similar panic on here when Cambiasso didn't re-sign and many thought we'd struggle without him. Things worked out O.K. after that and I'm sure we'll be fine again this time. No-one mentioned Kante when we played well against Swansea and Arsenal, so need need to panic just because we had an off day at Anfield.
yorkie1999 Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 We did alright against arsenal, we beat Swansea. It's 40 points and champions league this year. Why waste the energy required for midweek European football on a game that was always going to be difficult.
Donut Posted 11 September 2016 Posted 11 September 2016 I think the biggest example of losing an influential player, was losing Heskey after the 5-2 win over Sunderland. We had won the league cup and it looked like the sky was the limit. We saw the Heskey and Collymore partnership only once, and then everything started to drift apart after than, for a variety of reasons.
mozartfox Posted 12 September 2016 Posted 12 September 2016 Forget Kante.. He is history.. We must move on as this constant talk of Kante is not going to change anything. We will turn this around.. patience and common sense on here will make this less painless.
AS78UK Posted 12 September 2016 Posted 12 September 2016 Lennon was our biggest loss, and the irony that Kante plays in a similar position is quite scary.

Foxhateram Posted 12 September 2016 Posted 12 September 2016 Things were never the same after Barry Hayles left. His goal scoring instinct (especially against Palace) was phenomenal! We all want a team of Barry Hayles!......
Hitesh Posted 12 September 2016 Posted 12 September 2016 I recall the season we went down with Peter Taylor we had lost Gerry Taggart through injury for most of the season. At the time when we needed leaders and strong influence I think it was a big miss, not quite the same as Kante I know and that there was a number of things wrong with that team but seem to remember our defensive problems could have been a little less if he'd been in the team. Although worth adding that the influence of one person isn't all the problems for this season. And I say problems lightly as I don't think it's all doom and gloom. We just need to get back to defensive basics and do what we did really well last season and become more organized. We were far from it on Saturday and that's where the work needs to go on the training ground.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 12 September 2016 Posted 12 September 2016 After Ryan McGivern stopped playing at LB we immediately looked much more solid in defence, does that count?
Master Fox Posted 12 September 2016 Posted 12 September 2016 All we had to do was say "no" you're not leaving.
foxy boxing Posted 12 September 2016 Posted 12 September 2016 we've still got some influential players, one player does not make a team.
Gazza M Posted 12 September 2016 Posted 12 September 2016 Lennon was a huge loss. It started the decline under Peter Taylor.
marbles Posted 12 September 2016 Posted 12 September 2016 It's not that we've lost Kante that is hurting us - its that we have not yet figured out how to play without him. We cannot play the same style as last year, and expect the same results. For teh first half of last season, we were the most lethal offensive team in the league - we need to get back to that. At least until Claudio figures out a better defensive formation.
