January Transfer Gossip

What we need is a real slice of luck in january

Without walshy I'm worried about the strength of our network & vetting to get the right player.

money is not a problem but we will have competition from other clubs for the same players.  whoever we get has to hit the ground running, is passionate, hard working and talented.  Confidence has to be high as he will be going into a team that needs cheering up.  We need a new leader to inspire the team again.  Don't care if it's a midfielder or a defender.

The 19-year-old, who can play in central midfield or defence, has caught the eye with his mature displays for Genk over the past two seasons.

And now newspaper HLN have reported that Leicester have opened the bidding to sign him when the window opens in January.

They are said to have lodged a cash bid of £15.5m which could rise to £18m in performance related add-ons.

However Genk are holding out for more money for the Nigeria-born starlet, and hope to scoop around £21.5m for any sale.

The club's technical director Dimitri De Conde told the paper: "Ndidi and [team-mate Leon] Bailey  have indicated that they want to stay until the end of the season.

"But suppose there comes a megabid, it is very difficult to keep them here."

the young amartey once  caught the eye with his mature displays for copenhagen. Its time for a proven quality centre mid rather than one for the future.

I'm the first in the queue as to acknowledge our immediate needs, sure.

On the other hand  what we did last year we will never come close to again without this 'Southampton' style mentality of 'they can buy all our players and our managers but we always have something in reserve...'

So, yeah I want a squad with two players for every position (something we've not managed yet effectively) but I also want an U21/U23 squad with one player for each position on the brink of breaking into the 1st team squad....

In order to do this, you need your Kaputska's, Amartey's and your Moses Simons..... invest and we'll still be in the Prem when our Vardy's Drinkies and Mahrez's have top four European teams' shirts and salaries - which may be as early as next season.

We are a club and squad in quiet transition and are currently a desirable prospect - and this may be one of the last windows we can exploit that due to CL football and being current title holders.

Spend.

Get these prospects in now.

Really not interested in overseas players at the minute there's plenty of decent premiership players who could do a job for us. We need players to make and impact straight away with the situation we're in. Amarty, Musa, Hernandez even Slimani has not settled as we thought.

I've nothing against us signing this lad if he's good enough to come in, make an impact and allow us to be more flexible in the formations we can play.

It's our lack of ability to change formation that bugs me most. It's easy saying 4-4-2 isn't working but have we even got the personnel for 4-3-3?

should go back in for Paredes

Leandro Paredes has been linked with a January move to Arsenal and WhoScored.com explain why he'd be a good addtion.

You can never have enough central midfielders, at least in Arsenal’s case.

The summer arrival of Granit Xhaka means manager Arsene Wenger has ample options in the middle of the park, so much so that Jack Wilshere was forced to depart for Bournemouth in the hunt for regular first team action upon his recovery from injury.

Nevertheless, with Mohamed Elneny set to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations in January, Wenger could well be left short of options, particularly with an Arsenal injury crisis never too far away.

It’s seen the Gunners linked with a January move for Roma star Leandro Paredes. The Argentine has struggled to consolidate a starting spot under Luciano Spalletti this season, but has returned a vastly impressive WhoScored.com rating of 7.75 from his five Serie A starts this season.

The 22-year-old’s professional career is still in its infancy, but he has proven just how effective he can be when given the chance to impress.

Daniele De Rossi, Kevin Strootman and Radja Nainggolan are ahead of Paredes in the Roma pecking order at this point in time and with two-and-a-half years left to run on the youngster’s current deal at the Stadio Olimpico, the midfielder’s career is at something of a crossroads. De Rossi’s advancing years means the experienced Italian won’t hold down a regular starting spot at Roma forever, but a player of Paredes’ quality warrants regular game time, especially if he is to realise his immense potential.

Paredes spent last season on loan at Empoli, catching the attention of a number of Premier League sides, with Liverpool previously linked with a move for the midfielder, and for good reason. The player boasts a statistically calculated WhoScored.com strength of ‘taking set pieces’, with the Argentine player making 35 key passes from set pieces in Serie A since the start of last season, the fourth best return over that period.

Comparatively Arsenal have played just 15 key passes from dead ball situations in the Premier League this term, a relatively disappointing figure given the creative personnel available to Wenger.

Yet it isn’t just Paredes’ set piece tacking ability that stands him in good stead. Of players to make 10 or more Serie A appearances this season, an average of 2.7 interceptions per 90 minutes is among the best returns, while 2.5 tackles per game is also respectable.

The all-action displays in the middle of the park have certainly earned Paredes the adulation of his peers, while his distribution is also of the highest standard.

Of players to make 10 or more Serie A appearances, only Napoli’s Marek Hamsik (82.8) is playing more passes per 90 minutes than Paredes (76.7), while 101.3 passes per game in the Europa Leagueis the best in the competition this season.

He is hugely effective when it comes to picking out a team-mate, with a 90.3 per cent success rate in Serie A and a 91.1 per cent pass accuracy in the Europa League both impressive.

While he is unlikely to carry the ball forward too frequently, his ability to pick out a team-mate after winning possession holds him in high esteem. While Arsenal look to be moving away from the possession-based approach into a more direct style, an average of 56.4 per cent possession is still the third highest in the Premier League this season.

The Gunners are inundated with midfield options, but it’s fair to say Paredes would be a better option than Elneny and Francis Coquelin in the middle of the park, particularly if Wenger wishes to bring in a player whose style is similar to that of Xhaka.

I've watched quite a few Roma games and Paredes has really impressed me. But Liverpool were also sniffing in the summer, he's an upgrade on Emre Can IMO.

Like everyone else, a bit baffled with the Kaputska situation.

Been a few months barely seeing him, if Ranieri isn't convinced he's ready yet he should loan him out or even have done that when he first signed him?

Getting the thought he hasn't become fully adjusted to living in a new country and a new football environment which he doesn't call 'home' yet.

Going to be difficult signing good players if we're languishing near the bottom of the table, why would players of the calibre we should of signed last summer now want to join us?

agree with this , so we need to go back to unearthing some gems like we did with Vardy , Kante and Mahrez but this time we need to do it without Walsh.

good luck Eduardo Macia, you get a hell of a job on your hands.

Do you really believe, that Ranieri would treat Kapustka like an outcast, if it was his idea to sign him?

My guess: that lad was the last player from Walsh's shopping list.

All this gems needed time to adjust to the pace and intensity of the PL.

Do you still remember, that Vardy scored exactly 1 goal in the first 29 games of

his first PL season? 1 in 29 games!!!

We don't need rough diamonds, because we probably won't have the time

to cut and polish them. Not this time.

In January we need the finished product.

Kouyate,Benteke,Kouilbaly,Lukaku have came from the Belgium league. Same type of build to this guy, looks promising.

Hello, came to take a look as a Genkfan. Ndidi is a monster, he has everything to become a topplayer. His games in the europa league were huge and that for a guy who is only 19 years old. But don't think it would be good for him to make a move to Leicester at this moment. He should get time to adapt.

Genk has quite a trackrecord for topplayers. De Bruyne, Courtois, Benteke, Carrasco, Origi, Koulibaly, Defour etc were all formed in Genk.

PS Hope they are not serious about Simon, not a bad player but don't think he has the level required for the premier league...

A more experienced central midfielder with more than decent vision would be nice in order to take pressure off Drinkwater.

An attacking midfielder would be the icing on the cake going forward.

Other than that, our established centre-back pairing looks rather fragile and unreliable right now (Morgan doesn't instill me with a lot of confidence, I'm afraid) and we neither have a proper right-back nor left-back as back-up for Simpson and Fuchs. Why Hernandez can't challenge for a starting spot on a more regular basis or why Benalouane can't get a sniff in and doesn't even have a squad number remains a mystery.

What are your opinions of Kara Mbodji? Do you think he's good enough for the premier league?

He has played in Genk before leaving for Anderlecht. Player made for the premier league, powerfull, impressive in the box. His feet could be better and he has a 'special' character.

Had to leave Genk because of his character, I was a bit surprised that he left Genk for Anderlecht and not the premier league.

I'm personally a bigger fan of his colleague back then, Christian Kabasele, but he doesn't get minutes in Watford, god knows why.

Ranieri pushed hard for both Inler and Benalouane, they were both his idea, not Walsh's. And he was happy to drop them once he realised they weren't great.
