We only didn't concede second half because United had dropped into 5th gear. We improved slightly but they weren't really trying.

We created really good chances in the first 15-20 minutes but nearly every final pass or cross poor, after that it really was heads gone. 

Hopefully a salutary lesson for Don Claudio as we cannot play the same way against similar teams away from home as we would at home against the likes of Burnley

They scored from 3 corners?

 

Its more the replacement not doing the basics along with poor marking from the CDs?

Really need a highly-rated young CB to add to the defensive competition.

 

Think Mahrez is becoming more average, whilst Gray should definitely play more.

slimani with vardy away from home - forget it

I did wonder before the match if Claudio might be better to start Okazaki over Slimani for these sort of matches to provide a bit more defensive cover.

I love Claudio, but when is he going to consider changing the formation against the big teams? especially away from home. I can stomach losing, but not by four goals. Enough.

I understand all this about changing formation but at the end of the day if we could defend corners properly they would have scored 3 less.

 

What has happened? We definately miss Ulloa in this aspect

It's going to sound stupid because set pieces are a massive part of the game but the score flatteted United.  

 

We'll be good enough to beat most in this league but will struggle against the big boys. That'll do me to be honest.

Exactly, pre season told us 442 against good teams is finished, but Ranieri just can't let it go.

If Liverpool couldn't change his mind, I'm not sure anything will. Hopefully I'm wrong.

We let them onto us and tried to break, that's what we always do. In the most part we did soak it up, but we were an absolute shambles from corners. If you're going to invite a team to attack you can't defend set plays like that. Being switched on at corners and we come out of that with a draw or narrow defeat, but instead braindead defending has given us a shallacking.

 

Its the same players who defended set plays so well in the second half of last season, it's not the personel, it's that they need waking up. It's not the formation, it's not the loss of Kante, that meant Rashford was all alone a yard out for a ball across the 6 yard box, or that Smalling and Pogba got easy headers.

That corner defending makes me cringe. It was bad enough I'd be happy enough for us to drop mad $$ on a new CB to play for us instead of Morgan or Huth. Shambles all round.

 

Looked better when Vardy and Mahrez went off but not sure if that is down to Man U going down a gear cus they already won. I miss the Vardy that never gave defenders a moments peace but either him or ranieri have decided not to bother so much until we're losing. 

 

Playing 2 in midfield has to stop against top sides. We'll concede about 400 against Man City if we keep it. 

 

Gray was so positive and what a ****ing goal.

Subs was strange - don't believe Vardy & Mahrez was taken off to rest. Gray definitely deserves start against Porto! Mahrez can sit on the bench and fight for his place as he has been absent all season so far. 

 

Amartey is jack of all trades, master of none. Doesn't tackle, intercept, creative or show any form of intensity. 

 

We clearly need to work on our corners - defensively and attacking, both as poor as each other. 

 

I want a good champions league run but we cant sacrifice every game before it. 

I agree. There was always a chance Man U would take their foot off the gas at half-time so prob worth keeping Vardy on at least to see how it goes for 15 mins or so. A bit of a fight-back would have been a confidence booster for mid-week. Amartey appeared quick to blame when at fault. As someone else said, how many lessons do we need ? On to Tuesday

2 similar strikers is definitely not the way forward, when playing stronger teams that are going to have most of the ball.

Too much space in the area that okazaki would occupy, our poor pre season form has been forgotten about but we are shipping shit loads against the better sides.

You dont need to be statto, to realise there is a major problem in how we are set up against the better teams this year

True. It was the basics that we lacked, so similar to the game against Liverpool really. But I guess lacking control in midfield exposes a poor defence more

Because Drinkwater is playing on his own. Amartey is not a CM, he's young and may develop into one but he lacks composure, and the ability to pick a pass. It's a big step from Kante to Amartey, and let's be honest Utd took the foot off the gas second half.
