Shelf Side Spurs Posted 27 October 2016 Posted 27 October 2016 Well there's obviously much hilarity in this thread with the banners and the proposed chants etc. You've earned the right (by winning the league) for the banter, no one can deny that and we should be big enough to take it, but also hopefully find something amusing to shout back. I'm not sure why some people seem to hate Spurs so much, but hey ho we all have our favourites to hate I suppose. I'm going on Saturday, I went last January as well, hoping for a different result obviously, and it should be a good game. I think you'll win the singing, but think we'll win the game. Enjoy the day those of you who are going.

I don't think it's hatred of Spurs in the same way that neutrals hate United etc. Personally, I think it boils down to Spurs being one of those clubs where much has happened to lead to a certain reputation of 'typical Spurs', similar to Newcastle or Villa but more successful. Everybody enjoys to see bigger teams fail, which we are seeing for ourselves this season on the back of last year. Plus, the big London clubs are often disliked due to the arrogance of the fan-base, yourself not included of course. Every club has its idiots, but the arrogance of certain Spurs fans last season suggesting that they had a divine right to win the title because of the style of football made that backs to the wall 0-1 and the Spurs capitulation so much sweeter. Personally cannot see past a Spurs win at the weekend, unfortunately. I think we've turned a corner with the Palace game but suspect that Spurs will be too strong on the day, unless of course they throw a 'typical Spurs' performance and we snatch a win.

Good post....I think you might be surprised at the weekend. We had a great game against City and played really well, but since then we've lost Alderweireld and goals have been hard to come by. If you defend well as both Bournemouth and WBA did, it will be difficult for us to score, and with someone like Mahrez in the team and a bit of pace you'll get chances. We should win, but actually doing it is another matter, I think it will be close.

Yes, but it's like Sunderland fans winding Leicester fans up by stating they won the top league title (albeit them being in the early 1900's) 5 more times than our one. One reason is probably because The Fighting Cock is the top result when you search 'Tottenham forum' on Google, and that's what a lot of Leicester fans were reading in the title run-in last year. I've never seen so much hatred and arrogance in one place.
