We needed to follow up Saturday with a win today, It could have turned our season round, got abit of a run together. I think when I say I fell asleep during the 2nd half and have just woke up says alot about the game, I'll leave it at that. I wish I could be so laid back when watching that horseshit, so as I could fall asleep. Im rather the tearing my hair out and using four letter words type when I see what our fantastic team of last season has turned into. Tragic.

That said, if you had said we had no Drinkwater, Vardy, Kante or Mahrez in our side (who may as not well be playing for us any more) I would have us down as relegation candidates. Their 'replacements' where relevant are beyond woeful - Musa, Amartey - League One and Championship standard respectively. Musa I agree but your wrong on Amartey........the lad is young and learning.....give him time

st albans fox Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 The players are clearly low on confidence - last year they were flying. It makes a HUGE difference. not losing is a good way fo them getting it back. The cup game won't be relevant (given we are away at a decent PL side) so seems we need to avoid defeat aginast chelsea to keep the spirits up!

We cant win away and are in a relegation battle, most of which is due to having a shit midfield. What did he create today? What forceful runs did he make? What positive forward / defense splitting passes did he make? His major function (as is King's) appears to be - jockey the opposition, make a tackle when possible, pass 5 to 10 yds sideways or backwards. Why he or King have been picked above Mendy or Matty James in the last month - given they are both fit, is a mystery to me.

If you want proof see my post's after the Everton game, so pissed off, fuming, probably taking it too much to heart. Today, dunno what was up, couldn't really be bothered! Perhaps the up and down attitude of the team is rubbing off on me. I agree....there is only so much you can put into it when one has no control over the outcomes, and sometimes it's best to just let it go.

I said near the start of the season, I think our current midfield is amongst the worst in the division. The kids on here will spaff to their hearts content. But nowt I've seen changes my view. Oh for someone who can just control the ball and run with it.
Chico1958 Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 I think Mendy and Amartey did really well supporting King In fact considering this was only Mendy's second real game you could see why he got signed. Amartey seems to be growing in confidence. I think they will give us different option for the future. Scrappy game today but that's two clean sheets................... 4 points over Christmas. I'll take that. Reserves against Everton please unless Claudio thinks Drinkwater needs game time.

Yeah. I mean I like putting my heart into, caring, but it's actually quite nice sitting back, relaxing, not caring. It won't last, before long i'll be back to being pissed off with it all, putting me in a bad mood but today meh, whatever, gotta go back tomorrow, more concerned about that! After the Everton game it put me in a bad mood for a few days, I even had to let anger out down the gym a couple of days later, I can't go on like that!! I doubt i'd have this carefree attitude if we'd lost today, I will say that.

Well you obviously were not at the KP versus West Ham as with Drinky they did create and his role is to do as you say....destroy and break up the game. Granted he is no Ngolo but he was signed to be a powerful DM or CH .....time will tell. i agree our midfield should have been strengthened pre season but we could also have signed a better right back, creative number 10, alternative to Vardy, quicker/footballing centre half etc.....but Daniel Amartey is not the issue .....plenty asking for a 3 man midfield which swap Drinky for King would give us more balance. if you watch today's game back you will see Amartey wins more tackles and headers than anyone. personally I was more disappointed with Okazaki, Mahrez and Ulloa whilst a Gray and Musa did little when they came on. its all about opinions but DA is going to be a good player imo and midfields need combinations.

BlueSi13 Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 I've taken more attacking shits. Honestly, if everybody played for clean sheets like we do football would be less popular than Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi or Rugby League.
st albans fox Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 Simmo avoided a booking! means his inevitable two game suspension will probably be after the AFCON is finished so amartey can play there!

This is your usual great post mate. I agree with everything you've said. I've also said Amartey needs to be just a DM. He's not bad at breaking opposition play up. In front of him need to be midfielders who can actually play football. I am hoping that a midfield three of Amartey or Mendy, playing behind Drinky and Ndidi, make the difference. Amartey as the stopper. Ndidi and Drinkwater as the playmakers. THAT, I could see.

If we had lost the game and we could have lost it with Ramirez's miss then we would be going ape. This was a shocking performance to be honest. I can't understand it as an average Prem side would have put Boro to the sword. Where are we going wrong here? There is a lack of confidence for sure but our defence got us out of jail there. I am angry about this where were poor against a poor side and should have been far more positive for this game. Mahrez? I am baffled by him and we really looked to have no threat.
SheppyFox Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 Our midfield is a disgrace, that's obvious and painfully obvious at that, but today atleast it did appear they were asked almost solely to protect the defence, which they did. I'd still be looking to bring in another more creative central midfielder aslong side Ndidi too

It was second division dross from both sides. We saw neither improvement or relapse. It was dire third division football. Not something you would, or could not possibly expect from the current Premiership champions. Even Chelsea last year never looked this mediocre. I despair. It evidently got worse whilst you were posting this...

I think the combination you highlighted could be very good but Drinky needs to play further up the pitch....the problem with the 4-3-3 for me is the full backs....Fuchs can get forward but Simpson becomes so exposed as a footballer....today showed his lack of mobility, passing and general pace.....we will need a really fluid 3 up top.....no passengers but at least with JV to return we will have a threat but although I am a massive Ulloa fan he and Oka don't work in a forward 3! This transfer window could be interesting mate.....i think Ndidi may be a very smart piece of work but I would really like us to find a bright, quick, footballing Number 10!
Callabinho Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 Mahrez was appalling again today...he really needs to buck his ideas up, strolling around on his bumper pay package and is offering absolutely nothing to justify it, if he wants out then let him go, I'd rather not have him if he is going to continue doing this.

I may be wrong but I believe Boro have only lost by more than 1 goal twice this season, to Liverpool and Everton and we're a long way into the season. They aren't that exciting but they're a decent team.
Chown Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 Two clean sheets and four points over this extended weekend is a decent return for me. Three points off ninth place and a six point cushion to the drop zone. I was expecting a top half finish this season and we're not too far behind that curve now. Combining this with the Champions League campaign I'd say that, although this season hasn't exactly been brilliant, I wouldn't say it's the embarrassing disaster some fans seem desperate to label it. I've got my flights booked for Seville and bought Saints Away tickets so hopefully I'll get to see the team build on this weekend (although I said the same after Man City and Stoke as well).

sishades Posted 2 January 2017 Posted 2 January 2017 An opportunity was missed today, a win would have sent City up to 11th in the table. The game was dire, the performance was shockingly bad. I do feel let down by Mr Mahrez and his lacklustre performances. Its almost as if he cant wait to get away from the KP stadium.
