fleckneymike Posted 12 January 2017 Posted 12 January 2017 Apologies for the rambling nature of this post, my thoughts are still forming. With the impending sale of Jeff Schlupp, a common criticism of Jeff appears to also be levelled at other players (and I count myself as guilty of a similar crime), that of lacking a football 'brain' or poor decision making. This criticism, to me, seems to be disproportionately levelled at 'non white' players. Are we guilty (and again I fear I may have to include myself in this) of subconscious racism and incorrectly ascribing negative qualities to non white players? I am not saying that I am correct, I may well be completely wrong, but from years of attending matches I have noticed that certain players get labelled as having no 'brain'. Hopefully someone can better articulate what I am so inelegantly saying (either to agree or disagree).
Ashley Posted 12 January 2017 Posted 12 January 2017 No criticism of a player is racist. If they generally aren't good enough they'll get the criticism they deserve.
crisp packet Posted 12 January 2017 Posted 12 January 2017 No jeff has not got a football brain .... if he did ? He wouldn't be going palace for 12m nothing else to it!
fleckneymike Posted 12 January 2017 Author Posted 12 January 2017 Criticism is always valid, but I do feel that non white players seem to be disproportionately equated with low intelligence, either directly through 'no brain' or 'poor decision making'. Consider the way in which we view Huth and Wes as defenders.
Sir Shep Posted 12 January 2017 Posted 12 January 2017 A lot of our players are non white, or black, North African you might say. Some have deserved criticism to be honest, as have players such as Albrighton, Huth and Vardy, fairly or unfairly. I don't really think anyone on here has been critical based on skin colour to be fair, conscious or subconscious.

Mike Oxlong Posted 12 January 2017 Posted 12 January 2017 Scientific tests on Wasilewski have shown that he has a brain the size of a walnut and a heart the size of a lion
StanSP Posted 12 January 2017 Posted 12 January 2017 proper retarded post. are you non-white cos I don't think you have a brain?
fleckneymike Posted 12 January 2017 Author Posted 12 January 2017 Take the time to type 'brain' into the search function on foxes talk and see how often the 'lack' of a brain pops up as a criticism for non white players.
brucey Posted 12 January 2017 Posted 12 January 2017 Interesting observation, but could genuinely be pure coincidence.
VLC86 Posted 12 January 2017 Posted 12 January 2017 Well I've got my back covered by my Hernandez posts . If a player isnt good enough we are now racist? I post some bollocks on here but this thread is reaching for the stars in the stupidly stakes.
Koke Posted 12 January 2017 Posted 12 January 2017 I get what you're saying fleckneymike, but I disagree. Yes players like Adama Traore, Ahmed Musa, Schlupp, Walcott etc have been called brainless and having "poor decision making". But I don't think it's racially motivated. Arsenal fans call Ramsey brainless and WBA call McLean that too. The leagues up and down the country are littered with white and black players who don't have much football intelligence.
The whole world smiles Posted 12 January 2017 Posted 12 January 2017 Mate the other day you started a post asking if Musa was a competition winner who brought his kit to the match and got a game. Was that racist or just overly harsh and ignorant?
brucey Posted 12 January 2017 Posted 12 January 2017 We have more non white players than white players, and almost all players have had these accusations levelled at them at one point or another. Vardy for instance is regarded as being somewhat dim in real life. King has been said to lack a football brain. Wingers (of which pretty much all of ours are non white) are frequently accused of not making the right decisions to pass vs shoot, regardless of skin colour/club.

Bayfox Posted 12 January 2017 Posted 12 January 2017 Is blaming wellens racist? Or is it just Wayne brown that's racist.

Accusing King of not having a football brain would probably have to go down as one of the most ironic statements anyone has ever made about a footballer and their intelligence.
