foxes21 Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 Title says it all. Our squad and all our signings were made with 4-4-1-1 in mind. 3 at the back didnt work and 3 in midfield leaves us so defensive with little threat down the middle. Sign a CB and maybe another winger. When Mahrez & Slimani get back they should be the front two. Kasper Simpson, Morgan, Huth, Fuchs Albrighton, Drinkwater, Ndidi, Gray Mahrez Slimani That's our best team in my opinion.
Chico1958 Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 On the other side That wasn't our best team performance today But there's always the next game to look forward to
Izzy Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 Fvck formations. I'd just be happy if we could string two passes together at the moment to be honest....
matty98 Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 We've been poor all season regardless of formation. Style of play is the problem imo

We can't and haven't been able to for 18 months. We need to transition into a more possession based team in the summer

AyewJoking Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 the set up today wasnt so bad but the players totally wimped out. if they all pulled their fingers out we'd have at least given chelsea a game. one step forwards, two steps back.
Guest Lako42 Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 We were capable of giving them a game, for 10 minutes. It was poor today but people complaining about formation are probably going to be the same ones who wanted us to get rid of 442 (4411)
dayday Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 Our tactic is simple, when we get the ball hit it long, doesn't matter where just long.
Ted Maul Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 Behave. Seen too many 3 goal away defeats to agree with you there, mate.
ZeGuy Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 Wait until Slim and Mahrez are back from the AFCON. With Ndidi and Mendy alongside with DD (who will hopefully turn up as well, because he quite looked shit since his injury) it will be a whole other story. Problem how much can we last without them? Above all will be any CB signed before the end of january?

yorkie1999 Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 The only thing we are good at is going at teams, when we sit back at the start we are shit

Exactly, Huth and Morgan are not really blessed with fantastic ball skills
chicagofox Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 And I thought the problem all season was that we couldn't be successful with 4 in midfield. Anyone within a mile of a keyboard was saying how we had to play with 3 in the middle?
kingfox Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 I wouldn't go back to four in midfield, hardly worked at all this season apart from a few home games. 4-2-3-1 against West Ham, we looked more fluid but as @foxes_rule1978 said, Slimani made that formation work along with Mahrez. 4-3-1-2 against Middlesbrough worked on the defensive side of things, clean sheet, midfield worked incredibly hard, but I didn't expect anything with Ulloa & Okazaki up front, different personnel could make that formation work. 4-3-3 against Everton ended up working in time, Ndidi & Mendy performed well in that game, just depends how you set out, go into a defensive shell like we've seen before when we've played that formation it ends up being 4-5-1 and we go all negative. With Slimani & Mahrez away I'd stick with 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-3. Start Gray in behind Vardy & Okazaki in a 4-3-1-2 formation or sign a number 10. 4-3-3 go with Gray - Vardy - Musa.
Mark Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 The problem with 4-4-1-1/4-2-3-1 the only player who can play in the hole is Okazaki, can't believe we haven't bothered to strengthen this area considering we've played 4-4-1-1 for around 5 years but only had Nugent and Okazaki capable of fulfilling that role. Mahrez couldn't hack it in the last few games we tried him there, he's not strong enough for a start and the positional sense for such a position isn't there, he isn't going to learn a new role half way through the season.

This really. We have two players who have more than an ounce of creativity in the whole squad, one of them starts on the bench. Formation means shit until this is rectified.
sdb Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 352 could work brilliantly with Slimani in the side, and against mediocre opposition. With 2 lightweight strikers against the best team in the league...probably not a great shout.

Also worth pointing out that formation doesn't mean everything. There needs to be a system in place for all phases of play, scorelines, set pieces or whatever. Everybody knew their roles last season. Doesn't look as convincing this time around.
sm1 Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 I think we have the players to play a multitude of different systems like Kingfox has outlined. Our problem is our pressing and work rate, especially Vardy. We are way off in that respect from last season. Without that it doesn't matter what system we play.
Slim Dog Posted 14 January 2017 Posted 14 January 2017 Any formation without 4 at the back should be in the bin. 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 are my picks.
