filthyfox Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 SIGN HIM!!!!!.... Then we can ditch Was at least and give Wes a rest.
filthyfox Posted 28 January 2017 Posted 28 January 2017 Him and a 24 year old centreback... Then a 24 year old right back next season. CAN I HAVE A JOB PLEASE? All our recruitment is good for is crocked midfielders and shit forwards!
StriderHiryu Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 He *was* one of the best defenders in the league for many seasons in a row for Chelsea but in recent seasons has been completely exposed as the physical side of his game has fallen apart. Sound familiar? That said, he'd probably make a useful acquisition for the rest of the season, but absolutely not someone who is a long-term fix.

He's playing right back against quick wingers, if we played him CB I reckon he could do a job.
HoustonFox Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 I think if he came, he would be a massive upgrade on Simpson. Faster, stronger, and can actually control a ball and offer a little attacking threat if needed. With him behind Mahrez, I'd feel a lot safer. He could even sit and let the left side attack more too if needed. Really doubt we will sign him. As I said earlier, I don't think he will leave Chelsea till the end of the season.

West Brom are willing to pay proper money for him I hear.
Tuna Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Would be very disappointing if he went to WBA. Our need is greater and we can offer champions league! (All 180 minutes of it!).

dbtcity Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 A tank who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and is decent defensively/offensively... no brainier for me straight into the squad in place of Simpson, then sign a beast of a cb to replace huth
Kinowe Soorie Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 There's a lot of slagging Simpson off in this thread, but he has been the least of our worries this season. The woeful midfield and lack of decent service to the forwards are the major issues.

And decent service definitely won't come from Simpson as he's probably the only player in the team who looks as scared as huth does with the ball at his feet.... don't get me wrong defensively he's half decent but come on how the hell can you be a premier league full back who panicks any time the ball is at your feet

I agree to a certain extend, but when you have Huth, Wes and Simpson all uncomfortable on the ball and hoofing it at every chance, bypassing the midfield and giving the strikers nothing to work with, then we have to look to change that. You could see Claudio furiously barking out orders to keep it on the floor. If we have defenders who are comfortable on the ball and able to pick decent passes under pressure, then I think that would make a huge difference to the whole team.
volpeazzurro Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 There's a reason he's not playing for Chelsea anymore and that's because he's become a liability at right back or centre back. This was shown on Sky or motd . Was very good in his day but suspect legs have gone. We need an upgrade, preferably a lot younger, Ivanovic would just be more of what we've already got.
Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Our entire first choice defence are all north of 30. Whilst this fella might temporarily be an improvement, I can't fathom where the succession planning is? I didn't even mention the 35 year old back-up!!

I don't know about that. Ivanovic can control a football, Simpson doesn't do that comfortably.

I agree, but we have to focus entirely on survival right now and he is an upgrade at RB and at CB, so it is a signing that makes sense to me. Frankly, we can worry about a succession plan in the summer window, when we have hopefully averted this potential disaster of relegation.
st albans fox Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 This smacks of desperation - then again, we do look desperate in defence !

Matt Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Rudkin! Get in there and get it sorted! Do something FFS!
HybridFox Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 No brainer for me if he's available. Yes, he's not up to the heights of what he was but he is still better than anything we've got at the moment. As well as the versatility of playing both RB and CB. As well as a threat going forward. No doubt we need a younger defender too, but for a job until the end of the season, yes please!
katieakita Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Apparently only just over 6ft so maybe not tall enough for WBA
