STUHILL Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Probably end up at WBA then if he stays in the Prem. Least he will know he has at least another season in the league next season as well, as they are pretty much safe already
Max Power Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 We should be all over this. Need improvements at right back and centre back. He's experienced and settled in this country and league already.
Ian Nacho Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 No thanks. The main probably with the defence at the moment is the fact that the defence is aging and not getting any younger and by getting Ivanovic and playing him in central defence isn't changing anything whatsoever and if we play him at right back we're in fact making things worse.

I don't think a lack of pace is our biggest problem at the back. More that they look like they've never seen a football before.

Even playing Wasilewski and Benalouane couldn't be much worse can it?
foxy boxing Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 No thanks too old to bring in now as we need younger more mobile defenders that can develop over a number of years. Our defence is ageing together and will probably need replacing together. We need younger players to replace these

Oh course it is it means we have a defender who can pass a football and not hoof it 2 nobody every time
Fox 4 Life Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 This could be our Huth signing from the great escape season.....
kingfox Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Was absolutely terrible at times last season, out of favour this season, 32 years old. We moan about Huth & Morgan's legs going and how they are getting too old, Ivanovic is pretty much the same as them. Was brilliant but now? I'd rather get someone younger.

We're desperate and he is probably the best we could get.

Would never class Huth and Morgan as the same as Ivanovic A 32 year old Ivanovic is not the same as a 33 year old Wes Morgan or 32 year old Robert Huth. He has played at the very top for most of his career and although he is in his twilight years, he is still an upgrade on what we currently have. Unfortunately, we are in a situation now, where the short-term aim of survival, is much more important than any long-term plan. That means we have 6 months to avoid relegation and we must do whatever we can to win enough games over these next 6 months. A signing like Ivanovic may make no sense in the long-term, but any player who is better than what we have, is a good signing for us right now.

Not in terms of quality, achievements etc... but in terms of age he is. All these fans saying we need pace at the back, we need a younger face, we need someone who isn't the same age as Morgan & Huth, now all of a sudden opinions have changed? The points you make in the last paragraph are all valid. Would we see the best of him though, produce like he did last season I'd worry, our defence are slow and making mistakes as it is.
justfoxes Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Morgan and Huth have lost the plot completely Ivanovic would be a quality signing and a start for improving our defence?

Because the people who's job it is to get players in are fannying about and failing, so as I said we're desperate and now simply looking for a short term fix, improvement on Morgan and Huth (Not that hard you would have thought...) and Ivanovic fits that bill.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 this seems like a proper QPR signing, I'd rather now
HankMarvin Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Wonder if JT fancys anyone's wife and would like to come here
Firegrande Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Ivanovic would be a great signing. Some of you have lost all perspective completely. He's better than what we have, very experienced and will be available at the right price. There's not a magical pool of Premier League quality defenders that we can dip into I'm afraid, so we have to look at our best available options. Ivanovic would be near the top of that list. Christ almighty, what are some of you hoping for??

Spicer Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 He is certainly better than any defender we have

We always piss about but then again its always a difficult window. They're all capable of making mistakes, Chelsea fans were saying Ivanovic was done last season and wished that he would fvck off. Experience was vital when we brought in Huth, I get where some of you are coming from, but seeing how Ivanovic performed at times last season I'm split on the idea.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 I don't think replacing one ageing defender with another is the long term answer, but he would certainly be an improvement in the short term and would welcome him into our side.
HybridFox Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Judging by the Leicester-Chelsea meetings this season, Ranieri seems to have a good relationship with Antonio Conte. A little more urgency and a goodwill phone call from Claudio would surely swing this transfer our way!
