FoyleFox Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Neville and Carragher on Sky are excellent, know their stuff and come across well. Always decent analysis & good banter. Shearer and Murphy do well on BBC, say it as they see it. How anyone gives airtime to Savage and Jenas is beyond me. Ditto the BT lot. Adding Henry to the good list and Garth Crooks to the bad.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Murphy and Dixon generally offer something to say but they're so bloody boring. Shearer has improved no end since he first started, he's now the best the BBC have by some distance. Lawrenson, Crooks, Mills and Keown (and to a lesser extent Kilbane) are awful and BT's coverage is almost unwatchable bar the games, Jake Humphrey is excruciating. Think Bill Leslie who does commentary on Sky's Football League coverage (might have had some Prem games too) is great. You can tell he reads up on stuff and knows what he's talking about, no cliches or anything like that. When he and Andy Hinchcliffe commentate on a game I genuinely find the lack of mintiness refreshing.

This wasn't because they disagreed on a particular subject, they just clearly don't like each other and couldn't be professional enough to keep it off live TV. Totally pathetic. Those two are awful pundits anyway, as are Danny Mills, Ruud Gullit, and Niall Quinn. Not a massive fan of Souness either. Neville, Carragher and Shearer are probably the best three. As for commentators, Iain Darke is by far the worst. I actually found the savage/Sutton argument quite funny and actually found myself agreeing with sav
evil jack Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 i actually don't mind Robbie Savage at all - just as passionate as Ian Wright and is a good sport when he gets it wrong. I can't stand Paul Merson & Michael Owen. Complete imbeciles that are stealing a living on TV.

I get they aren't best mates and I don't mind them going at each other a little, but it was constant for the whole show, on live tv. Just a tiny little bit of professionalism wouldn't have gone amiss.

He can be extremely stubborn and just ends up raising his voice when he doesn't agree with someone. I did enjoy this exchange with Ian Marshall about Savage. Says it all really. Savage said it was a deserved point for us after Friday night's game.
foxinsocks Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 sometime I agree with savage some times I don't - but he is good fun and ready to say what we're all sayinginthe pub - too many pundits don't want to jepordise their relationships with clubs and players. He is entertaining/
Benguin Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 I actually think jermaine jennas is good, I can see the boring comments but his analysis is normally decent. Shearer and the neville's are normally good too.

Kitchandro Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 I like Ian Wright and Gary Neville in general. Danny Murphy & Phil Thompson are 'ok'. Shearer has got better over the years. Henry's decent I suppose. Le Tissier is a level headed reasonable bloke, got a bit of time for him. Dixon is mainly good and I used to actually like Southgate quite a lot when he was on ITV (though that doesn't make him a good England manager). Struggling to think who else I can stand. Sounness is a bitter, horrible bloke. Carragher as well. Don Goodman is hateful in so many ways. He's too arrogant to admit he's wrong when he sees the replay has proved him wrong. He's got an agenda which he sticks to. Every phrase that comes out of his mouth is overly dramatic like he's constantly thinking about being on tv rather than being honest. He comes across as an absolute snake in the grass tbh. No time for him at all. Danny Mills is poison. Awful, awful person. If Danny Mills was running the game, football would be destroyed in a 5 year period. Some of his comments in the last year have been absolutely disgusting. Savage is just an arsehole. I don't always disagree with him but he's just a two-faced piece of shit. Phil Neville is a moron. He has no brain. Niall Quinn is thick as owt too. Merson is on purely because he's retarded, he has no understanding of the game (or anything, let's be fair) at all. Jamie Redknapp is on tv purely because the women fancy him. He never says anything of note and his accent is extremely annoying. All he does is basically promote Sky Sports every week and act like the presenter when that's not his job. '....Wouldn't you say, Dwight?'
Kitchandro Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 How did I forget about Glenn Hoddle and Alan Smith. They're completely driven by their agenda's towards Spurs and Arsenal and it makes them completely dishonest. They just lie through their teeth with bias. Hoddle in particular can just die.
ithuriel Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Find Lineker, Wright and Shearer together are very good, lots of funny quips and digs but all in fun. Garth Crookes is just another planet type of weird.

bovril Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 I like Keown. Basically anybody that offers genuine insight and analysis and not just anecdotes. I hate Shearer, mostly because of who he is and not necessarily his punditry. But in general I don't think he has a great knowledge of the game. It's all subjective though innit.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 I really like Paul Merson. Thick as pig shit but when it's just five blokes talking for nigh on 6 hours with no football shown you need someone funny with a few stories

Corky Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Peter Drury used to annoy me but I actually like his over-the-top poetry-style view about football now, he clearly enjoys what he does.
Ian Nacho Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Some of them speak a lot of sense but some of them don't have a clue.
CollinsLCFC Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Ian Wright probably the best for me. His analysis of us last season was spot on. He didn't put it down to 'luck' or 'one off'.
