Mike Jones (Ref)

Two clear penalties.

An obvious red for their keeper.

Not to mention a couple of the softest free kicks given to them within shooting distance:
 - one of which they scored from (off the Chilwell deflection)
 - the other was a 100% fair Benalouane tackle where he cleanly won the ball.

He'd either been paid, instructed to even up the tie or most likely both...

Absolutely shocking performance. Worse than Moss.

Wow, won the game and everyone criticises the ref.

Better to criticise the ref after we have won, rather than use him as an excuse as to why we didnt win.

We managed to win despite him having a shocker. I suppose you could argue that we would have won the game in 90 minutes if those decisions were given.

The one where he gave a foul against Benny for a perfectly timed block tackle made me laugh.

Theyre clearly guessing half the time. The other half they just don't have a clue.

It's not like we get bad refs every week, it's Jon moss sunday I think, what could go wrong.

As I commented last night, jones seems to have it in for us, like Liverpool away, gave a penalty for the ball hitting Wes in the face, then followed shortly by giving a shocker against Simpson

That was the same free kick

They scored off the Albrighton "high" foot.

Oh yeah, that was a high foot and the correct decision though

Terrible performance from all the officials tonight. I might be getting old but the standard of refereeing seems to be getting even worse this season...

We were spoilt last season on the whole that probably has something to do with it, I think, Besides Jon Moss who was equally horrendous for both teams anyway, we were very lucky with the standard of officials who made a lot of contentious decisions in our favor which on reflection mostly turned out to be correct.

I can't remember a performance from last season like the one from Mr Jones last night he could quite easily of cost us that game. The Handball was a joke, Chillwell for me is a pen but I'll admit you see them given we see them waved away, Slimani on the other hand was bang to rights a stone wall penalty, you wouldn't see a better sweep of a standing leg in a Olympic judo competition, I can perhaps understand the free kick that led to their goal if it was given against Mendy (although if it was should of been 5 yards further back) if it was given against Benny then that's the worst decision of the lot, got 100% of the ball and non of the player.

as bad as the ref was, why has the assistant not spotted the handball by their keeper?

I'm sure that most of the time the assistants don't actually 'assist' referees. They just 'follow'. Look at throw-ins...ball goes out - most of the time the referee will almost slyly point to the direction it should go and then the assistant will oblige.

Sometimes assistants should face just as much criticism as referees for having little to no bollocks.

That's called teamwork

In the last 3 game we've had:

Burnley hand balling immediately before scoring the winner.

Mata's foul on Vardy, much worse than what Vardy served a 3 match ban for @Stoke.

At least 3 stonewall penalties vs Derby, not to mention their keeper blatantly handling 2 yards outside the box.

Surely now all our ref bad luck is spent and Jon Moss will play a blinder on Sunday... right guys?..

really poor refereeing, we could easily had a couple of penalties. if the linesman can see a decision he shouldn't hesitate to raise is flag even if he is going against the referee. they are there to make decisions not just run the line.

The push on Chilwell was pretty hard to see, but Slim's pen and especially the hanball outside the box were absolutely blatant. At this level it's very, very poor refereeing.

That's because he was pathetic

So what, we won didn't we. Champions league final, we win 3 0 but the ref didn't give us a peno. What a downer that's gonna be.

My Favourite part was how ****ing red the goalkeeper went as soon as he'd done it lol little albino twat.

I thought Musa was robbed of a goal by the keeper's handball. If the keeper had his arms down, musa puts the ball into the back of the net and we feel a little more impressed by his performance yesterday. Instead he gets away with a handball because Mike Jones had swallowed his whistle.

It's not about having bollocks, it's about following instructions and guidance from the referee.

You've clearly got no idea of what it's like to be the 'linesman' then, the clue is in the name. They are there to assist the referee and that means following his pre match instructions. Numerous times I have ran the line and instructions have been "just offsides and ball in and out of play, I'll make decisions on fouls so then it is consistent across the field" and this is to prevent scenarios where one assistant has a different tolerance to the other assistant or the referee and then the team come across as inconsistent in different areas of the park.

There is also the issue of credibility. When you give a decision it doesn't matter if you are right or wrong, it matters if the players think you are right or wrong. You can't give a decision that is not credible as it will affect the rest of the game and if you lose credibility you lose control of the game. I've refereed and thought "that's a penalty" but before I have blown I wait and see, no attackers react and start jogging back for a goal kick. Giving a decision when you are the only person that has seen it will massively affect your ability to control the game.
