Keown is convinced Shakespeare led a mutinee with the players which forced Ranieri out so he could become manager. There might be some truth in that but as we've all seen, performances have drastically improved where Claudio had lost the dressing room.

It's certainly a very unusual turn of events but saying Shakespeare is not worthy of the job is laughable when you consider how long he's been at the club and the reaction he's got out of the players.

Is this type of mutiny that happens early on in the day?

"mutinée" (noun): a mutiny that happens early in the day

"mutinee" (noun): the victim against whom a mutiny is perpetrated

"Martiny" (adjective): a person characterised by a peculiar blend of pompous self-righteousness, rank hypocrisy & loudly-expressed but ill-informed opinions (may also resemble a Neanderthal) - see Martin Keown

Alf doesn't always come out of semi-retirement.

Good job I repped it then.

I thought Keown was agreeable with until that last night, flabbergasted when I heard him say that.

Shakeys never said anything about demanding or expecting the job, seriously dont know what keowns on.

What he is saying is just guesswork. It seems pretty unlikely to me that he was involved in forcing Ranieri out to get the managers job. I don't want Shakespeare to get the job because I would rather have an experienced manager but I have no issue with him wanting the job now there is a vacancy.

we need a chat .... something along the lines of:  keown is a bitter bloke who was a very poor footabller... why would any one listen to him... etc  - NB: needs tobe mnore catchey

During the 1998 World Cup training camp Glenn Hoddle introduced Eileen Dewry to the squad.

he explained what she did and suggested players had a private session with her.

So Keown readily agreed and went along to her clinic but after she started to council him

he said "wait a minute, I thought he said face healer."

Poor footabller maybe, but he was a decent footballer in his day. You don't captain a top 4 side, and lead a team unbeaten in the league throughout an entire season without having something about you.

Contradiction much?

I take all of this as praise really. It's almost like they're scared of us doing well again.

SAM MATTERFACE: Sorry, Martin Keown, but why on earth shouldn't Craig Shakespeare want the Leicester job?

Keown claimed Shakespeare was “out of order” to want the Leicester manager's job

BYSAM MATTERFACE

UPDATED16:22, 6 MAR 2017

On Sunday night I sat down to review the footage of the weekend, preparing to write a column about the value of hiring a top goalkeeper. Then Martin Keown spoke.

Too many goalkeepers caused their teams grief this weekend.

Joel Robles bowling the ball into a dangerous area at White Hart Lane after conceding from 25 yards in the first half, Heurelho Gomes against Southampton, Eldin Jakupovic against Leicester, and arguably Paul Robinson will feel even at 37 that he should have repelled Martin Olsson's near post effort.

I haven’t even mentioned Claudio Bravo.

There’s no doubt goalkeeping is a hazardous occupation, but this week there seemed to be an inordinate number of errors that led to goals.

Craig Shakespeare to be told this week whether he will secure job

As I was making these notes, I heard Keown utter a series of words that stopped me in my tracks.

He said Craig Shakespeare was “out of order” to want the Leicester City manager’s job.

Hang on. Sorry, let me rewind that. Is that what he said?

"Suddenly he wants to be a manager. It doesn't sit that comfortably with me. If you're assistant manager to Ranieri and he's walked, why is it you suddenly want to be the manager?"

"You have personal ambition, but I think it's almost out of order that he wants to jump in for that job,”

Yep he said it. I had to watch it three times.

I like Martin. He’s always approachable, knowledgable, polite and he was a terrific defender but I can’t tell you how strongly I disagree with him on this subject.

I can only assume Martin is either suggesting Craig had a role in a coup d’etat at Leicester, or that he isn’t qualified for the position, and assistants should just stay in their box marked “No 2”.

Shakespeare has been the assistant manager at Leicester for eight years over two spells. If, and I am just spitballing, he or anyone else had observed that the first team were at any stage failing to respond to a managers methods, he is duty bound to report it.

If he, as an experienced coach, and servant of the club believes that a situation has developed in a dressing room, that has reached a drastic stage where the club would benefit from a change of direction, he is duty bound to say so.

He works for Leicester, not Ranieri. His loyalty is to the club.

If that job becomes available, in any circumstance, why on earth should he not want it? Why should he not be considered for it?

He was qualified enough to be asked to be England’s assistant, he obviously has a rapport with the players, he holds a UEFA pro licence and he has a 100 per cent win rate! Two victories at Leicester, one at West Brom.

Collectively we moan that there aren’t enough English coaches at the top of the game. Then we slam someone for being ambitious, and we haven’t got a clue what role he played in Ranieri’s demise. We know it’s got better since.

If people are still upset because they still feel football lost it’s soul when the publicly charming Ranieri was sacked, get over it. Football lost its soul long before then, and there aren't too many complaints in Leicester.

Football is ruthless, and to be a football manager you have to be ruthless too.

However the job comes his way, unlike several of the Premier League goalkeepers we saw this weekend, there is no way Craig Shakespeare should let this opportunity slip through his hands.

Unbelievable that people actually get paid to spout such drivel. I'm actually kind of enjoying the national meltdown now we've rediscovered some form.

It's great to shove it back in everyone's faces. Again.

Posted

Pretty sure it's just his opinion and has nothing to do with his time here.

that said it's still utter rubbish, not the first time a assistant has stepped into a role as a caretaker, had a good start and stated he fancies it on a full time basis.

Keown making the same mistake people on here make sometimes, he's not shouting it from the rafters, he was asked a direct question and answered it, what's he supppose to say no I want someone else to come and potentially sack me off because I could not possibly take Claudio's job.

Matterface sums it up perfectly, I think people forget there was a club before Ranieri joined. Shakey is actually more qualified than most to go for the job given he knows the club back to front.

I mentioned it in the other thread. This guy was pushing for Mickey Adams job when he was here and that's why he was binned off. For him to come out and say what he's said about Shakey is laughable! Can't stand the bloke! B squad player riding Tony Adams coat tales picking up £250 a week from MOTD to talk absolute bollocks

Yes Albert, Keown was quite unsettling and keen on taking Mickeys job off him. Everything was done better at Arsenal and he wasn't shy in letting everyone know.

So Shakespeare is out of order going for a job that's vacant, but he was quite happy to try and push his manager aside for his own benefits.
