fuchsntf Posted 9 March 2017 Posted 9 March 2017 Before I start wanting to see the new buys, from this season get pushed out, I want to see them playing in this side, when playing well on the frontfoot. Every player from last season, have been poorer or just has off the mark has any, of their new teammates. IMO, Ndidi and Simpson, are the only ones who can feel good with their performances within this season. Vardy + Slimani get away with it, as well because of the lack of continual regular decent service.... Mendy and Musa, its just too early to judge...even for Ndidi, who has started well.

StriderHiryu Posted 10 March 2017 Posted 10 March 2017 I feel a bit sorry for him given he had that injury early in his career, but he's just not shown enough to justify his fee or his place in the squad and it's probably best he moves on. Ndidi has shown way more than Mendy, even in the games were the team was struggling. Next year we will have significantly fewer games (unless we somehow perform a second miracle and win the UCL) so I'm not sure he's worthy of a squad position when it's likely we will try to develop Harvey Barnes. Matty James could be back, and we might sign someone else (more like a no. 10 though I feel) to push him further down the pecking order. Not all signings can come off. We've been spoiled in recent years with Vardy, Mahrez and Kante as insane signings and you'd have to say that Drinkwater and Kasper have also proved to be incredible for the club. In fact in the starting 11 that we last played, you could make an argument to say that every single player was an incredible signing! So perhaps this year the law of averages is taking effect with some less spectacular ones arriving. Mendy seems like a nice guy, but it's just not worked out for him.
Grewks Posted 10 March 2017 Posted 10 March 2017 I'm afraid physically, I can't see him being able to compete in England. Kante is small in stature, but his engine and positional awareness is just incredible.....Mendy looks like he's blowing out his a**e after 5 minutes, is poor on the ball and can't really defend. Maybe he's just unfit (He's looked it since he arrived) and Shakes has told him he needs to get fitter in order to be involved.

Ive said it about Mendy and Musa almost since the first game I saw them. I think it's clear (Musa especially) that neither are good enough. Slimani I'd give more time to. Ndidi will be very good.

Musa I'll give you, I think he's an enormous confidence player and this season has shattered what little he had but I also think he's very limited. Mendy we've seen so little of, after his injury he came in to a struggling team, has never really found fall fitness, seems equally lacking in confidence. He's never done a great deal wrong he's just never done much exceptional either. But whilst he's played we've seen others, Drinkwater particularly, also have shocking games. I'm by no means saying he's definitely going to be exceptional for us but I do think there's merit in giving him time to push on from here under a happier regime and work on getting back. Musa came here with a poor to average goal scoring record and a reputation for being quick but raw, he's delivered that. Mendy came with good reviews, from a pretty solid French side.

I want to believe he'll turn out alright though. Think the problem is that to be an excellent passer you need someone to pass to. For the majority of this season no one seemed to want the ball.

Ah yes, the old "bang average" sledgehammer verdict: Don't see a player on the pitch that often? Call him bang average! Let's make life simple! Opinions matter! Mendy's this season's Gökhan Inler.

For me it would need an injury to two out of Drinky, NDidi, Amartey and King for him to even get a place on the bench. He's been poor since pre season and influences a game even less than Kingy. Because at some point someone will get injured, be tired or we just need a fresh pair of legs to play the last 10 minutes.

Shaky "Because we haven't got a third team!" Squad laughs, Mendy doesn't get it. Nampalys now can find a new club. Hope to see him in the second team but the players call/ called the shots and preferred not too - IE refused as it looked bad on their careers 3 over age outfield players allowed. All fringe players should be involved at some point to prove themselves whilst allowing the younger lads to develop.

He constantly picked the ball up, tried to play it cross field and would always give it straight to a Millwall player as if he couldn't pass further than 10 yards. Mendy impressed me at first (was it Middlesbrough where he first featured after injury??) but then after a couple of games that changed. I'm not having this "they've come into a bad side" too because Ndidi has looked more than comfortable.
notnow john Posted 10 March 2017 Posted 10 March 2017 He's had a bad ankle injury,he's not Kante,get rid.
AjcW Posted 10 March 2017 Posted 10 March 2017 A few weeks ago all these young, high potential players were an annoyance and not what we needed. If we win another couple of League games they can go back to being exactly what they should be, and exciting sign of our future! Amartey, Chilwell, Gray, N'Didi, Mendy... there's not many teams that can boast that much 'Potential' talent, so when things get a little less stressful and we are hopefully safe, I want it to be something we can relish!

Which is unfortunate because I had high hopes for this fella I always thought he would be a flop, just looking at his stats for Nice he hardly won tackles or interceptions. Couple that with he had poor creative stats for key passes and assists. The one thing he did excel in was ball retention but that just said to me that he was a tidy but ineffective player.
Bossman Blessed It Posted 10 March 2017 Posted 10 March 2017 He must have shown something for us to have been scouting him for so long before we eventually got him in. I can't see him wanting to stay too much longer though in any case - Ranieri undoubtedly would have been a big pull for him. He's obviously a good player even though we perhaps haven't witnessed it regularly this season, however, given how little we tend to have the ball, his physicality (albeit coming from injury) becomes a bit of a negative. He's incredibly short, but doesn't seem to make up for it in the same way that Kante did despite his size - i.e. Mendy has been shrugged off the ball far too many times when he's played. Moreover, now that we have Ndidi, it's clear that there's always space for a central midfielder with ariel dominance, not just for defensive purposes. That being said, he's a good passer of the ball and is very disciplined at holding the midfield - he looks organised and also, at 24 still has room to grow. With a solid pre-season under his belt he could still become an important player for us next season. Unless somebody bids near the region in which we paid for him, there's no real merit in selling.

There was a 5 minute period where he gave the ball away three times in that exact fashion, simple 20 yard passes so far misplaced they went to the opposition. It really was unbelievable to watch from a professional let alone multi-million pound footballer.
