TiffToff88 Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Gareth Southgate is set to announce the squad for the upcoming games against Germany and Lithuania at 2PM today. Lots of injury concerns so not expecting anything too exciting or inspiring. Do we think the recent injury crisis and upturn in Leicester's form will see Vardy and Drinkwater selected? I doubt there will be room for any more city players in the squad though!
StanSP Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 I hope they're not selected. Purely from a selfish point of view! We have a very hectic April schedule coming up and don't really want them risking injury or fatigue.

I hope you're right, but with the injury problems (Kane, Rooney, Sturridge) its looking highly likely that at least Vardy will be called up
Jimothy Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 I imagine Vardy will be there, simply because we hardly have any fit strikers. Kane is out, so is Rooney. Sturridge us always injured. Welbeck is easing back in after another long lay off. Carroll plays about three games before getting a knock again. We're really going to struggle to pick 3 or 4 strikers for this squad.
ousefox Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Shame Vardy will probably be in and most likely start at least one of the games. We have a huge run ahead of so any rest he can get the better.
lgfualol Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Vardy and Rashford will be the main strikers I imagine. Bad for us, but with Vardy's current form it might actually tempt me to watch the England shithousery.
boots60 Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 No Leicester players in the England squad please. It doesn't improve them. It affects their club form. It doesn't matter. England doesn't matter. On a personal level, I have gone from being a passionate England fan, veteran of most home games & as many aways as the kitty would allow 1982-2006, to a disenchanted cynic who really doesn't give a feck anymore about our severely underachieving national side. Not going Russia, not going Qatar. Any on here with similar thoughts.
stevelcfc Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Drinkwater will pick up a bruised rib again and have to pull out anyway.

Obviously watched the England games on the tele. Wouldn't go to Russia or Qatar in a million years. There's not a chance either won there bids legitimately and I'm not putting my safety at risk by going to Russia, or going to a country which has accepted a ridiculous amount of deaths to build football stadiums.
Finnegan Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 As long as he doesn't get injured, why wouldn't you want Vardy playing against Lithuania or whoever it is? Vardy is a confidence player, it'll do him a world of good to smash in a couple for England vs some shitbag povo nation.
TiffToff88 Posted 16 March 2017 Author Posted 16 March 2017 It would be just our luck that when we need players resting due to the busy club schedule, they'll decide to call up every English player in our 1st team
RoboFox Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 F**k England, I couldn't give less of a s**t. I hate the international breaks. I resent having to take a break from watching exciting league or European club football for that absolute dross. Another meaningless friendly, followed by another tedious qualifier vs. another low-ranking team who have no chance. After the excitement of recent weeks, I can't think of anything worse. I hope they aren't called up, or get convenient "knocks" that mean they can't go. We need them fit.
AjcW Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 The only saving grace about the Friendly is that it's against Germany and it's in Dortmund so should at least have an atmosphere to drown out terrible ITV!
AjcW Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 As this is in Gen Sport... who do you think deserves a debut/return call up? Redmond should be in there 100%, along with Keane, i'd even stretch to Ward Prowse getting a promotion from the U21's finally!! Striker wise it'll be JV and Rashford, but I wouldn't grumble at Andre Gray getting in or even Defoe for a couple of games.
AKCJ Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Vardy will be in 100% because he's the best fit English striker at the moment. I personally think Albrighton will be in with a shout given his last 3 games. Drinkwater i'd be surprised at but with Henderson injured you never know.
foxy boxing Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Prefer it if they are not picked for England from a club perspective, but maybe Southgate will look at things differently to other managers and pick Drinkwater who although he hasn't had a great start to the season is one of the most consistent Premier League midfielders

Because our starting XI at the minute only has 2 players who 100% won't be selected for international football. (You could add simpson and albrighton but i've put 100% so only included those who aren't available for international selection i.e Huth and Fuchs)
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Would love Deeney or Gray to get called up considering how depleted our striking options are. Defoe really should be in there in all.

Koke Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 I don't understand not wanting our players in the England squad. Last year people were up in arms about DD not being selected and now people don't want him in there? I want Vardy to be selected and start. Hopefully he will score couple of goals.
kingfox Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Drinky & Vardy will probably make it cause of injuries. Wouldn't be surprised if Michael Keane, James Ward-Prowse, Ross Barkley, Andy Carroll then one of Redmond or Antonio get in.
