davieG Posted 19 March 2017 Posted 19 March 2017 Arsenal set to make offer for Leicester wonderkid Terell Pennant but Manchester United are also in the hunt Gunners scouts watched the 14-year-old score both goals as Leicester under-16s beat Southampton 2-1 on Saturday COMMENTS BYJOHN CROSS 20:58, 18 MAR 2017 UPDATED21:13, 18 MAR 2017Arsene Wenger is hoping to snap up one of England's best talents Arsenal are trying sign Leicester wonderkid Terell Pennant who is regarded as the hottest teenage prospect in the country. Gunners scouts watched 14-year-old Pennant score both goals as Leicester under-16s beat Southampton 2-1 on Saturday. They are ready to make an offer for one of England's best teenage talents which would be based on career achievements like first team appearances, goals and international debut. Pennant is a regular for the under-16s, is involved in the England circuit and has already trained with the first team despite his age. But Pennant has yet to sign a contract and his deal is up at the end of the season which has alerted several clubs. Arsenal are desperately trying to steal a march on everyone else and regard him as having huge potential as he can play on either flank and through the middle. They are likening him to a young Thierry Henry and are keen to snap him up with Leicester trying to keep hold of him. Manchester United are also in the hunt for Pennant but Arsenal are hoping they can tie him down in the next few weeks. Pennant also has a younger brother Kian who is also well regarded and the pair could end up moving as a package.
GaelicFox Posted 19 March 2017 Posted 19 March 2017 Friend has a kid in the same team says this pennant lad is a "super star" off the pitch already
STUHILL Posted 19 March 2017 Posted 19 March 2017 Going to be hard to tempt him to stay if his contract is up in the summer and he has offers of clubs like Arsenal and co. My argument would be, he will have a much better chance of making it to our first team quicker, than at a club like Arsenal. Hopefully we can hang on to him.

It'll be a scholarship or something like that

Ric Flair Posted 19 March 2017 Posted 19 March 2017 We rarely give youth a chance here either, the state of our academy I can see a few leaving given the chance.

I think in the past, this would be a no brainer for a youngster and the pull of a traditional big glamour club would be too good to turn down, but hopefully that isn't the case these days and we are able to hold on to him for now. The article also says he has trained few times with the first team, something I would never imagine he would do at Arsenal due to their huge talent pool, so that could help too.
st albans fox Posted 19 March 2017 Posted 19 March 2017 it will have little to do with the kid. He will already have advisors and he comes from a footballing family. remember uncle Jermaine played for Arsenal - even if he stayed with us until he is 16, he would go to a citeh, Chelsea or Arsenal thereafter. their academies are way ahead of ours in terms of their talent and he would prefer to be playing with the best and achieveing the most. The fact that Arsenal are being linked probably has more to do with Jermaine' influence because I don't believe the Arsenal academy is close to Chelsea or man citeh in terms of ability. The only chance we have is if he has he has very close friendships with players here, both his own age and higher up whereby he wants to stay and play with them. but I expect the wonga will talk in respect of his advisors and the draw of man citeh or Chelsea's set ups will prove tough to resist for the boy.

Danizen Posted 19 March 2017 Posted 19 March 2017 I really hope we keep the 14 year old that I only heard of 40 seconds ago. I'd be distraught if he left.
lgfualol Posted 19 March 2017 Posted 19 March 2017 He'll definitely stay. Who would miss the chance of working with Beaglehole.

whetstonefox Posted 19 March 2017 Posted 19 March 2017 Let's come back to this thread in 2021, be nice if we did have a 'wonder kid' but lot can happen between 14 and 18.

Gerard Posted 19 March 2017 Posted 19 March 2017 Good luck to the lad but it's so difficult for any kid to make it. Our own Choudhury was linked with Barcelona at 16 and whilst he's done well in his short career so far and has played 26 times for Burton on loan he's not quite hit the heights of a player good enough for Barcelona. When you compare him to Ndidi and consider he's only 10 months younger. http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/515338/Hamza-Choudhury-Transfer-Chelsea-Man-Utd-Barcelona-Leicester-wonderkid

Still would be nice if we could keep hold of those with huge potential though
themightyfin Posted 19 March 2017 Posted 19 March 2017 Does he have a release clause? If so blame Rudkin
