DANNY SIMPSON

I've held back on this for a few weeks, but think he really is showing his worth in the team. Always first on the scene when we net, two assists today, Danny will never be an out and out wing back but he is part of the system that clicks. A very solid and underrated player who has proved me wrong...anyone else?

Ignoring all the off field antics as a footballer I love the type of player that he is. Rarely does anything spectacular but is very consistent.

As soon as his opponent gets the ball he is there in their face harassing them trying to win the ball back.

Credit where it's due he is a good defender (without wanting to Jynx him)

its just a shame that he doesn't have the same crossing ability as Fuchs.

He has come a long way from the player we signed from QPR, the more experience he gets at this level the better he appears to be getting.

Even without my Blue tinted specs on, he's been great.

I'd say he's a genuine contender for player of the season for us, yeah bonkers, but his consistency definitely puts him way above most.

Throughout the dross part of this season he was rarely cited as one of the problems and that says a lot.

File under Defender, he was when we signed him, he was last season and he still is now.

I think yesterday showed what he can do when he's on tip-top form, it wasn't the new wave of right back displays, but it works exceptionally well for us.

Yet another solid signing by Pearson.

He reminds me of Gary Neville, who was his mentor when at Man U. Very steady at the back with a good cross. Neville would let Beckham do the forward play much like Simpson leaves that side to Mahrez.

I actually think his crossing is something we don't exploit enough. It wasn't just his assist yesterday, he's crossed like that a few teams this season. However, I guess that as a team he has to sacrifice going forwards because Mahrez is not as strong defensively as Albrighton.

Anyway since he got into the team early last year he's been super consistent. I was a big DeLaet fan but he looked out of his depth in the PL. Simpson looks far more composed.

Bit of an insult to Danny that ?. Although I can see the likeness in terms of defensive duties.

i had it against simo for a long time because he can't overlap but n'didi seems to balance the formation better so i'm gonna look at his defensive contribiosion only, and he has been nothing but sensational, good on you simo

He defends the back post incredibly well.

still stresses me out when he backs off and backs off when a player is running at him.

but overall he is a solid defensive RB.

You call it "backing off" I call it staying on his feet :-)

Already got more assists in one game than Shinji has in two years...

Just saying.

I assume you've got your tongue in your cheek. However, I am of the opinion that Shinji's teammates will value him highly.

Not taking anything away from him but those 2 assists were his first ones since his Prem debut back in 2008!
