You really don't like it when people criticise Forest & Derby do you?

You're such an odd Leicester fan.

It had no relevance in this thread, that was my point.

But me, home and away every week, yeah such an odd fan.

I don't even know who won it. I bet half the fans of Coventry and whoever else participated in the final know they all just wanted a nice day out at Wembley. It's definitely a shitty pathetic excuse for a cup though, and winning it is like a mark of shame. Like trying to use "GCSE" as a professional title cause you're never going to be a doctor

lol - I know a bloke who changed his name on all their social media accounts to have Bsc after it, and even that's less embarrassing than this tournament.

I know our trophy cabinet isn't exactly full but I'm glad we didn't win the JPT in our single season in League One. I know I'm sounding like a snob but I don't want that tinpot trophy on our honours list.

How times have changed...

Some on here will recall back in 91/92 we got to the Northern Area Final of the 'Full Members' Cup (spectacularly named the Zenith Data Systems Cup)

I remember fans of the 'big clubs' back then thinking it was a tin pot competition and it was royally dismissed by football snobs. (A bit like the Checkatrade trophy is now)

When we reached the Northern Section semi final we took about 8,000 to Notts County and it was one of the best away days I can remember. Then we lost to Forest in the Norther Final and just missed out on going to Wembey - I was gutted at the time.

But since then we've had it good, so I can see why people would think it's a bit 'beneath us' now. I don't agree with the format of the Checkatrde trophy 'as is' but I don't begrudge the likes of Cov and Oxford taking 40,00 each to Wembley. Good on em I say and I hope they enjoyed their day in the sun..

Exactly.

For a football league club this trophy represents their chance of winning something.

The absolute 'snobbery' (whatever, I can't think of another word) sums up a modern PL fan. People commenting without even knowing the finalists ffs.

Every trophy is there to be won, clubs shouldn't look down. We are lucky to have decent owners and not be in the mess like Cov, Blackpool, Orient, Blackburn etc.

Well done to Coventry and Oxford for the good attendance. On the face of it, Coventry are one of the bigger clubs in the competition but two consecutive finals for a club the size of Oxford is superb.

I think the word you're searching for might be 'c**tishness'

Whats with this snobbery bollox. I have no clue who is in the final or care.

Just as I do not care about the fa cup or league cup once we are out.

Just like if we lose to A Madrid I won't care who makes or wins the final. Some of us have other things in our life and my love for football ends with LCFC.

While some of you have OD on football today I worked 14hrs doing maintenance at a bird of prey sanctuary. Other than intravenous tea two egg sarnies I got nothing.

Tomorrow night after work I'll be fishing not watching mnf. Oh and Easter Sunday and Monday ill be doing two full days at the sanctuary probs 16 hour days.

Snob no I just don't care and have more to worry about than games that mean sweet FA to us.

But hey you carry on judging people you know sweet FA about.

I replied "no on ethical grounds" as I don't agree with the current format of the tournament, but regardless of that I think I'd feel like a bit of a bellend going mental over our ressies beating a side from the third or fourth division anyway.

People can be snobbish about the competition all they like, but it is still a special day out at Wembley for clubs who would otherwise never get to experience that - memories that will last a lifetime. The meddling by the Football League has put all that under threat, and someone like us winning it would just feel fraudulent.

I think anyone who might claim they wouldn't have gone should we have got to the final in 2009 is being a bit disingenuous though. That was our level at the time and a day out at Wembley would still have been a day out at Wembley regardless.

Agree ?

I quite like the setup

to be honest. Think of it like this, if you're playing for Oxford and draw Leicestervat home, it's going to bring in a few more casual viewers as you might get to see a Premier League player. It's a good revenue stream for smaller clubs, whilst giving younger players that bit more experience in a knockout competition.

Additional, those referring to it as "tin pot". Is every trophy you've ever won then "tin pot" also? It's pitched at a certain level and allows teams to compete for a prize. It's no different to the dog and duck pub cup that people might compete for in a Wednesday night floodlight league, played out on a pitch that has a steeper gradient than Mount Everest.

This year's average attendances would suggest otherwise. Down on previous years.

Football League are desperate for the likes of Man United and Liverpool ressies to join, that's the only way this bizarre idea will ever gain any traction. Our under-23s really aren't a big draw, and neither are those of most top flight sides.

A chance to travel to Wembley to watch the stars of the future, cheap travel to London :o, lovely atmosphere, sound of the wind whistling through the empty seats ......errr....of course I'd go as long as I they'd have half and half scarf's on sale that I could buy with all the money I would have saved by buying food and drink in the stadium......

Agree completely. Following a football club is virtually bound to be a roller-coaster but it feeds on the hope for special  moments to savour.  Fans of top clubs can become blase and other fans know their club won't challenge at the highest level apart from the odd extraordinary cup run.

And for them every momentary chance of glory will be enjoyed, celebrated and talked about and why not. Sometimes it is the spur for something more but if you sing through or in support/anticipation of the good times there's not much point just sitting there cringing through the bad.

Even as a so-called rival fan, I'm pleased for the Coventry lot. I play golf not far from Coventry and they've been almost too embarrassed to talk about their club in public for years. This has at least put a smile on their faces and given them not just something to take pride in but a seed of hope for the future.

And I'm pleased for them. It was a big day out among so many seasons of despairing days. A momentary freedom from pain. So right they'd want to enjoy it.

I'd like to say no but I know the sad reality is I'd be there, given the tickets were quite cheap and I live in London and am from near Wembley.

Oh I'd have gone in 2009, no doubt, but not this time. We shouldn't even be in the thing.

Coventry winning it was the worst thing that could've happened. A relatively big club for that level, so deprived of anything positive in years, meaning that they were always going to treat it as a big day out - and sadly one that will probably convince the FL that their new format was right, when it wasn't.

Yeah, the FL will be absolutely delighted with out it played out and will use the final attendance to try and convince everyone how well this worked. The reality is they got lucky with two good-sized clubs for the lower leagues - imagine a Fleetwood-Blackburn U23s final, they'd have struggled to fill the bottom tier.

There's the very possible scenario where one of our games is moved for TV and scheduled on the same day as said Cup final. Say we're at home to someone like Everton on Sky and then our U-23s are playing MK Dons in the final at the same time.

Interesting to see what people's answers would change to...

Playing devil's advocate a moment, isn't not going more disrespectful to the "little clubs that just want a day out at Wembley" (that's so patronising, chaps) - you're essentially giving their day out the vees over some assumed moral high ground they may not share?

I mean, we get to a final against - say - Plymouth and they ask us to support their boycott, OK, cool.

But they sell out their allocation looking forward to their big day out and we go "we refuse to come, for your own good"?

Even more condescending, surely?

I imagine most wouldn't go because the majority don't follow the u23's aside from seeing the results on here.

I can't imagine a crowd going mental because Uche has just smashed one in and put out under 23's 1-0 up against anyone. It'd just feel so weird and hollow.

I find it odd that anybody would want to go and be massively up for it unless they're a relative or friend of somebody playing.

That's the main reason it seems so perplexing to me. Nobody cares about playing an u23 side and barely anybody cares about their own clubs u23 side. I don't see any benefit at all.

Your scenario would sound massively condescending but has anyone said that?
