foxy boxing Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 If we did sign him and he missed chances to score for us the chant would be miss a Schmidt (Messerschmitt)
Stevosevic Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 If offered he'll take it. He'll know that if he says he wants to be a number 2, the new manager may not want him anyway and he'll be unemployed
Carter The Boss Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 I guess it all depends on his ambitions. There isn't anything wrong with being a career No. 2 at a club (think Pat Rice at Arsenal for example), but I imagine that's less common now than it was. On the basis of how the players have played in the last few games I would like to see him get the job, but similarly is he the right man to help us kick on. As a minimum I'd like to see him stay at the club, maybe serve another 2 or 3 year stint under someone like Schmidt and then decide what he wants to do. If he was to stay I would prefer a re-think at DoF level and changing to someone with more credibility than I perceive Rudkin has. I'd be disappointed if the last of the Pearson / Walsh / Shakey trio left, I think the stability and consistency of Shakey would serve us well, regardless of what role he is in.

Exactly, these players won the league under Claudio last season, how is it possible the very same players were now losing games under him this season? Just goes to show tactics don't win you games, it is managers. **** those snakes

Maybe i worded it wrongly, i didn't mean to say he was tactically inept before Claudio came along. Yes he's been a coach for years and already has great tactical knowledge, but that doesn't mean he can't learn new things from Claudio. Alex Ferguson was always bringing new people in to learn new things. That's why i said Shakey and Rob Kelly are not comparable. Shakey's experience is far superior to Rob Kelly's.
progmusfreak Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 I don't think hiring a new manager will work for us, as the following will happen: - Shakespeare might leave immediately after the management change, as I see him being ambitious enough to prove himself on a higher level, after his prolonged and successful assistance career. He wouldn't stay as an assistant, unless he has a say in the club. He wouldn't welcome seeing how everything he has worked for for so many years be left on the mercy of a newcomer. - even if Shakespeare stays, I am afraid he and the team staff will see their roles in the club gradually neglected. Most of them will either leave after the 1-st year or running riots. - every new manager will make things on their own way (shifting tactics, selecting players, etc. - as Ranieri tried to do in his 2-nd year). No one would just come and take over our legacy as it is. This would place a high risk of trying a new gameplan that doesn't work. No manager is guaranteed to succeed in long term if not a fitting element of the whole puzzle (as is Pochetino, Mourinho obviously not in United). - players will be played out of their strengths, therefore feeling in discomfort and their form degrading. The loss of Shakespeare will be also pivotal for them. - fans need their fairytales. If they see nothing special to chant about, they would easily get estranged from the club, not adopting the club as their own in the way they do it now (even when at the bottom of the league) For me, this club can be successful only if sticking to their own game style (regardless of how outdated most pundits may consider it), keeping key players, obtaining new players that possess features distinguishing them from the mass (i.e. Vardy, Mahrez), drawing players from their development squad, and buying some that just fit in the game scheme.
ealingfox Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Fair play to Shakey, he'll probably get a manager's job off the back of this run should we cut him loose. He's done exceptionally well so far but the next few weeks is a bit of an acid test. Both Atletico games are a free swing for him but four away games on the bounce with players needing to be rotated - can't pick our best 4-4-2 every game. If he can pick up a couple of away results between now and the end of April having made changes to line-up and/or system I'll be impressed.
Vlad the Fox Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Shakespeare has ambitions of being a manager, Pearson said it while he was here and I've heard one of the players state it over the last few weeks since Claudio left. Also the comparisons with Kelly are unfair. Kelly never really wanted to be manager which is one of the reasons Mandy finally got rid, plus him and Shakespeare are very different people. Shakespeare is very driven and has clearly had a big input into the development and tactics of the team over the years. In fact Shakespeare's succession to the post could be the most natural progression of the squad enabling a continuation of the success we've enjoyed over the recent years also bearing in mind the younger team players fitting into our system for the future. I wouldn't want that ripping up and I am hopeful he will be given the opportunity to show that he can progress the club/team further.

Yes, he has won six in a row. But five of those games were at the KP. The next five are all away games. At the end of this month we will know if the team has really turned the corner. Right now, it is too early to tell.

I'm not solely basing my opinions on the last six games, I see a lot in him, a singlemindedness, a strong character, a defined plan, an ability to get people to work for him. I think he has the attributes to become a very good manager and we fit him as much as he fits us at the minute. I think it's worth giving him the opportunity to progress the squad rather than have someone come in, tear it apart and deliver not a lot.
Clever Fox Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 The Owners would be silly to let Shaky go and i don't think their silly people. With the start he's made and all the obvious reasons stated it wouldn't make sense to bring in a new Manager who knows nothing of our players or setup. Even Guardiola is taking time to settle at Man city. Shaky couldn't have done any better than he's done with 6 wins. But for me it's not even the wins although it's always nice. It's the way were playing with apace and swagger and scoring excellent exciting Goals. It's blatantly obvious that he has the players playing for him and that's as much as you can ask from any Manager. Every good Manager had to get a start somewhere, With the start Shaky has made why shouldn't he get that opportunity here. He's one of our own for years now and nepotism starts at home.
dylanlegend Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 I would definately keep shakey if we continue to be half as good as we have been. however, if the new owners insist on someone new I think Marco Silva is clearly very talented as a manager
ZeGuy Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 If Shakey keep it on until the end of the season, I see no reason to not give him the job. I'm pretty curious (and excited) to see how he will fare against Athletico and the big fishes of the PL.

As for Shakes getting the job, I think he deserves a crack at it, the players all like him and is one of the main reasons we have been so successful, Ranieri hadn't really done anything, the system was in place before he got here.

And in real life, everyone has different nicknames in different social circles.

Press conferences won't be boring with him. His play style isn't based on possession but on agressive pressing and fights for the seconds balls (gegenpressing) so yeah, he could fit in very well here. He's also one who closely follows the young players and helps them to develop further. But like I said because of his temperament he's a bit of a wildcard. If Shakey does well, I wouldn't exchange him for Schmidt though.
