Very lazy journalism in my opinion, and reads like some of the posts we've had on this forum in the past regarding the likes of Yakubu, ' Only scores goals', and Nugent, 'Half his 20 goals were penalties'.

If set pieces are a player's strength then you can't go ignoring this trait. If you applied the same logic to Messi ignoring his dribbles and goals, whilst critiquing his heading ability you'd end up with a very average player statistically.

Ultimately it comes down to what your team lacks and what said player adds that you don't already have. Price alone is difficult to quantify as Swansea will testify. £50m is a lot of money no doubt, but GS is worth more to Swansea than £50m, particularly if they end up in the Championship as a consequence of selling him. Likewise, currently we're horrendous at set pieces and pose no threat whatsoever. If paying £50m guarantees us an extra 15-20 goals a season on top of what we currently score then does it really matter if he contributes little from open play? Also would it be deemed expensive or bad value if those goals were the goals that secured us regular European football and the financial windfall that comes with it?

Let's be under no illusions £50m is a heck of a lot money for any footballer but I just get the feeling that if we were talking about £50m for a 28 year old proven goalscorer (For arguments sake let's say Aguero - I know he's 29) that people wouldn't be overly concerned by the fee.

I'm not necessarily for or against this transfer, if it happens great, if not we move on, however I think the article in question has many flaws that paint a skewed perception of the players true value to any team that needs the illustrated traits that he possesses.

Let me put it this way mate:

I believe last season that Slimani's stats (for the rel few games he played) were comparable with Vardy's. Given this, who would be happy to offload Vardy and keep Slim?

Similarly, Amartey's stats, I think, were comparable with Drinkwater's. Would you choose the former over the latter?

Stats are really important but can never be overly relied on. You just watch Gylfi and see a calm and composed player. Intelligent.

Firstly, Amartey's stats weren't comparable to Drinkwater's overall. His stats were brought up because people like yourself said he never passed forwards, which was total rubbish. At one stage he was the most creative in terms assists and chances created, not by much... but those were the facts. Nobody was suggesting he was better than Drinkwater.

Secondly, you're comparison to Slim and Vardy is ridiculous as Slimani wasn't even playing in that position and was never a threat to Vardy. You want to actually have a debate about the person his did replace, Okazaki and you can make a case that in certain situations he's a far more viable option.

You are correct stats don't tell the full story, they alone can't be relied upon totally, but they are useful when backing up what you've seen with your own eyes

We moved on 4 weeks ago, when he made it clear he didn't fancy it.

After KI the target will be one of Evans or Gibson.

Everton have made a £40m bid for Gylfi Sigurdsson and are hopeful of concluding a deal. Sigurdsson not on #Swans trip to the US today #efc

Does that mean we didn't really bid £40m since we didn't get a chance to speak to him or did he just not want to speak to us at all?

A very good question. Lots of smoke and mirrors.

Can't we do two things - maybe Susan whelan should be tasked with it as she is a woman and we are repeatedly told by our other halves that they can do several things at the same time ...................

If we'd tried to make  signings like this last season he would have come.

Yes... but lets not forget we didn't know we were going to walk away from the champions league with the 3rd biggest amount of prize money. If we'd known that back then, we might have pushed the boat out a bit more.

We still spent a decent whack of money, hindsight and all that but if we'd signed 2 quality additions instead of 6 unknown quantities, that barely budged the title winning 11.

Shame. It should have been last summer when he'd have likely come. Instead we got Musa, Mendy and Slimani.

I didn't want us to be held to ransom here, but I'd have loved to watch Sigurrdsson in a City shirt. Lovely player. I say again, I can't argue with a single Everton signing this summer.

We did push the boat out, we just pushed it in the wrong direction.

News spouting today from the Gaurdian say we're still in for a shout with Gylfi could possibly sign for Leicester,  also seen something elsewhere can't remember where that Everton won't pay £50m for him they only want to pay no more than £40m for him ?

Probably a bit of lazy journalism but it's just going to be a case of wait and see, who knows we may be getting a double signing soon?? ?

How much would you have slated Sigurdsson if he'd come and got injured in his first game and not recovered?
