Gylfi Sigurdsson

Honestly would expect somebody like Lallana or Isco as a minimum for that sort of money. Gylfi is good but not that good and don't think he fits in with our current style anyway

If he was 4/5 years younger I'd have no problem with us paying the £50m for him as we'd probably make that back with his contribution over a number of years and resale value, but whilst pushing 28 as soon as we get him his value will be dropping and it wouldn't be worth it when we could get a younger option for less with more potential

Interesting that people want £50m for Mahrez and don't think Sigurdsson is worth £50m.

Mahrez 103 games, 27 goals (Average 0.26 per game), 17 assists (Average 0.17 per game)

Sigurdsson 182, 42 goals (Average 0.23 per game),     33 assists (Average 0.18 per game).

So those stats indicate Mahrez is better? And he's younger.

He's a year younger, 0.03 more goals and 0.01, so there nothing to really choose between them stats wise.

Mahrez is worth 50m to us but only 30m to other clubs.

Sigurdsson is worth 50m to Swansea but only 30m to other clubs.

The numbers seem to suggest Gylfi outperforms Mahrez on the field. So why not in the transfer market?

2014-2015: Mahrez 30 games, 4 goals (average .13 per game), 3 assists (average .10 per game), 7 points as a scorer

2014-2015: Gylfi 32 games, 7 goals (average .22 per game), 10 assists (.31 per game), 17 points as a scorer.

2015-2016: Mahrez 37 games, 17 goals (average .46 per game), 11 assists (average .32 per game), 28 points as a scorer

2015-2016: Gylfi 36 games, 11 goals (average .31 per game), 2 assists (average .06 per game), 13 points as a scorer.

2016-2017: Mahrez 36 games, 6 goals (.17 goals per game), 3 assists (.083 assist per game), 9 points as a scorer

2016-2017: Gylfi 38 games, 9 goals (average .23 per game), 13 assists (average .34 per game), 22 points as a scorer.

What does that tell us?

- Last season, Mahrez's goals per game declined 35%, and his assists declined 51%, from his career averages.

- If we look at the last two seasons for Mahrez, the decline is obviously more pronounced, with a 63% decline in goals scored, and a 74% decline in assists from '15-'16.

- Mahrez averages out to 14.6 points per season vs 17.3 for Gylfi over the last three seasons.

The numbers say Gylfi is the more productive and consistent player, surely. Gylfi also has less talent on that Swansea club, which may be suppressing his numbers. It is worth noting that Mahrez is a year and a half younger than Gylfi. But over the next three seasons, which is how long Gylfi is signed for, I don't know that this will come into play. Past performance suggests Gylfi will provide more value on the field the next three seasons. Mahrez should have more resale value, however. But I think we are less interested in resale value than Europe the next three seasons.

Mahrez being 'worth' £50m is based on his one impressive top flight season. That year he was far better than Sigurdsson will ever be.

But Sigurddson has obviously displayed a consistency over the past few years which Mahrez hasn't. I don't think he's a particularly special player, which to me, is why you would pay massive money.

To be honest, I wouldn't want to pay £50m for either of them. Scouts are paid well so clubs don't stump up that much money when the player doesn't really warrant it.

Considering they apparently turned down a bid from us, that's not a big surprise ............

jim white - on the ball as ever and no doubt just trying to dig out another Everton story

The 40 million bid was weeks ago. Perhaps this is more recent.

Actually yeah let's bid £50m for Lemar instead and try to annoy Arsenal!

Please don't chap, this transfer might take us to the end of august :P Can't be dealing with all that nailbiting, but gylfi and iborra in midfield with drinkwater is pretty tasty, then you have ndidi who looks awesome.

I still think we might come back to you lot with a bid for riyad, i just hope we can come to an agreement over the fee, maybe chuck you a player on loan or perm + cash, maybe perez + 35m?

I'd take that. That goal Perez scored at Bournemouth last year was absolute class.

Any chance you'd give us Chambers you reckon? The RB/CB versatility would be great for us across different formations. Think I'd be happy with £30m + him.

Yeh it's just unfortunate the lad hasn't had a chance at arsenal, when we bought him he scored 24 goals in La-liga, he looked lively whenever he came on, he'd be a cracking signing for you lot upfront with Kelechi / vardy.

Can he play wide in a 3 also?

How about we just say no to selling Mahrez (I'm sure we'd take £50m but I wouldn't) and offer £12m for Perez?
