twister Posted 19 May 2017 Posted 19 May 2017 Last season showed with belief and togetherness added to quality uptop miracles can happen, everyone played up to their highest level, carrying on the momentum from the previous year and maybe even the left over belief from the championship winning team under pearson. Morgan and Huth simpon and fuchs combined wonderfully as a four, and vardy and mahrez with the tireless alrbighton caught teams on the break with pace and quality. It all clicked. This year with walsh gone, the league won wages up and the spirit not quite what it was.Morgan and Huth are now aging injury prone, with the laws changed to stop them getting in players faces its been more difficult. Mistakes were made in the market big name money players were bought over character (simeone would not have done that at a athletico, character matters if your built on that as a club) they were either no quite accepted into the group or took to long to settle aka slimani. Good things were done Nidi looks a bargain and Chilwell is going to be some player in time. But Musa and the polish winger Kaptuska I think who never played were big mistakes. Added to the fact the big teams with big wallets have spent huge amounts and making this another future version of la liga (top heavy 5 or 6 team league with the rest taking pastings most weeks , swap grenada from sunderland etc) and its been a slog. Shakespeare has come in and steadyied the ship, weather he is the man long term remains to be seen, but maybe for a season or two he might be the right person to deal with what looks like a difficult summer ahead for you with players wanting to leave, getting wages down a bit might be the idea for the owners, he is a billioniare your owner but keeping up with the big 6 cash reserves is not a easy task. By the way our season has been just as difficult, but thats a different situation, long term manager who wont leave of his own accord, and with the recent run might convince the board again to keep him on anyway, entitled supporters dont help either but thats London for you.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 19 May 2017 Posted 19 May 2017 Cheers, that's a pretty good summary of how it has been. Ranieri also went into meltdown and ripped up everything that worked so we were very glad to see the back of him and it has saved our season. I'm not sure how I feel on Arsenal / Wenger. When he goes, you'll either go from strength to strength or lose all of the stability and identity he's created and slip back to a top 10 side. Difficult to say right now. Since you're not winning anything significant any time, it's probably worth taking the gamble.
themightyfin Posted 19 May 2017 Posted 19 May 2017 Honest view from Leicester fan to Arsenal fan. You have enough problems of your own without worrying about ours. And while you have Wenger you will never do what he mighty Leicester City have done and win the league.

Vardinio'sCat Posted 19 May 2017 Posted 19 May 2017 Thanks for letting us know that big Wes is injury prone, because that shows that you don't know our club well enough to make a useful contribution.
Scotch Posted 19 May 2017 Posted 19 May 2017 Guys, lay of the dude. He's given his point of view in a respectful, non derogatory way and TBH, I agree with a lot of what he's said.

And while you have Wenger you will never do what he mighty Leicester City have done and win the league. How much longer are people like you going to crow about winning the league? It's the most witless reply and totally irrelevant to what the guy wrote down. There's taking the piss and there's being pathetic. We are in no position to be taking the piss out of anyone because given the uncertainty around us we could be looking at another relegation fight next season. Plus I don't know if you noticed but we just got violated 6-1 on our own turf and our players gave up against a team we have been desperate to consider as rivals. Now is the time to shut up and eat humble pie, not go around giving it the big un.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 19 May 2017 Posted 19 May 2017 Pretty decent assessment to be fair, I would also temper your views with the reality of looking back to the 80s & 90s, where were Chelsea and Man City then in success and leagues, particularly Chelsea with attendances? They were nowhere near the 'Big 6' stature prior to Oligarchs intervention. I do not buy this elitist or entitled attitude, with the exception of both Spurs, Arsenal and us, with our miracle, the success has been totally money driven. Our owners have proven to be astute, sensible, very honourable and ambitious! I believe we have a bright future, they will learn from the mistakes of this season and push on!
The_77 Posted 19 May 2017 Posted 19 May 2017 Thank you for your unsolicited assessment, Mr. Arsenal Fan.

The Fox Covert Posted 19 May 2017 Posted 19 May 2017 Think after last season a lot of folk were looking forward to a change at the top, where the same clubs have dominated since the start of the Premier League. Now it looks as though Chelsea and Tottenham are so far ahead of Arsenal, Man City and United and Liverpool that it is difficult to see beyond the same two at the top again next season. The same clubs entrenched at the top season after season is not good for the long term future of the English game, either for the England team or for the fan.
RumbleFox Posted 19 May 2017 Posted 19 May 2017 Guy comes on and gives reasonable, honest, polite assessment and is very respectful to our club. Some people on here think "How dare the cvnt, I'm gonna slag him off and tell 'im we won the league last year the fvcking dirty bstard". Then the same, said people start slagging off other team's fans for being classless. Jesus Christ almighty the world is depressing. Not all of us are doodlewangers Mr Arsenal fan. I always liked Arsenal under Wenger (the early years). Some of the best football I have seen in the Premiership and the Invincibles season is still my all time favourite Premier League feat (apart from us last season). Good luck, I hope we both have better seasons next year. Cheers. Rumble. X

David Hankey Posted 19 May 2017 Posted 19 May 2017 I wish Leicester City had Arsenal's record along with the EPL title. Ok they haven't won that illustrious achievement but we shouldn't dwell on last season and work on becoming more consistent.

volpeazzurro Posted 19 May 2017 Posted 19 May 2017 I too think that was a reasonable assessment and put in a non confrontational way, so why the hostility? Sometimes you can be so wrapped up in a situation that you can't see the wood from the trees. It's good now and again to just listen to a neutral voice whether you agree with it or not.
AyewJoking Posted 19 May 2017 Posted 19 May 2017 how is kapustka a mistake? relatively cheap for a promising young talent. fair enough hes come here and the powers that be deem him not ready to be trusted yet did we sign him as a first team player or one we could develop into a star? ok worst case scenario he leaves for peanuts or on a free but the fee we signed him for plus wages is small change in comparison.
Blanchflower78 Posted 19 May 2017 Posted 19 May 2017 Why would a true Arsenal fan be bothered with us?

Vacamion Posted 20 May 2017 Posted 20 May 2017 The problem is, though, Arsenal always try to walk it into the net....
