What's the plan?

Now before I start let me state that this topic is in no way a criticism of our fabulous owners that have catapulted our club to heights I never thought I'd see.

A few years ago our owners set some fairly ambitious targets which nobody (us fans) thought we could realistically achieve. If I remember correctly they said they wanted us promoted to prem and pushing for top 4. Even when setting these targets I don't think the owners could've possibly envisaged a title win and a CL quarter final.

Now it feels like the dust has settled and we're a bit lost. What are the new targets? Is there a 5-10 year plan in place? Do the owners have same fire in their bellies or do they feel like preserving our PL status is enough now?

They continue to make money available to the recruitment team and always seem to make decisions with the clubs best interests at heart so as I say it's not a criticism of them. Maybe I've missed an interview where they've stated their new ambitions?

I just think it would be good to all know what we're trying to achieve and have a bit of clarity.

Thoughts?

Success breeds Hunger.

Anyone thinking our owners are going to be happy just being in the prem now is mad.

Our worth as a club and sponsorship cash cow depends on success.

If the owners were happy now they should do the right thing and walk. But Imo this and the title is just the start.

Would also like to see this if it hasnt been discussed with them.

5-10 year plan, stadium expansion, team goals/building, Brand expansion etc

Expand the stadium maybe one of their plans they are working on.......

tbh all the negotiations a manager needs to do these days just to talk to a player they wish to sign takes along time.   I'm trusting that shaky is doing all his best to get them in.

I'm sure the owners have a vision on how they want to move forward both on and off the pitch, both with the club and the team and it is about putting that vision into practice with continued investment in all areas of the club from the youth team to scouting networks and developing the stadium. We've come a long way in a short space of time and the owners can't afford to let the recent success slip away as we want to be an established Premier League team for years to come and be competing with the top clubs in the country. It's not just about the recent success but now about sustaining ourselves and moving forward and making progress as a team and a club and the owners hopefully won't see us fighting relegation and taking backwards steps!

Good OP and I was having exactly the same thought whilst driving this morning.

It came on the radio that Bournemouth had signed the three players..Ake, Defoe and Begovic. All of them instant first teamers. To come in and made an instant impact to improve that team.

I know it's often wrong to compare but sometimes you can't help it. It made me think that Bournemouth clearly have a plan and aren't hanging about to acquire their targets.

We've signed Maguire..... of which, I'm pleased.

BUT: this still leaves us with players that few of us really seem to rate...eg Musa

We've also got the situation with Riyad...who wants out but is still here....and tenous links with other players, but no signings.

This can change really quickly of course, but did make me wonder...what are our aims?

Consolidation?

Winning a cup?

Top 6?

Avoiding relegation?

Making money?

Etc....

There does on the surface seem little plan, or if there is one, little attempt to sell it to the fans. Compare that to 'little Bournemouth' who have basically gone out and said...'right, we want certain players' and we are gonna get them.

Interesting.

I normally agree but posts like this were abound last summer on the forum..and then look what happened.

I think it's perfectly fair that this time, fans would like to secure early targets, get them in and get them gelled.

I believe the club is going in the right direction and I think we will build and will be successful.

However can't help but think we lacked ambition how we went about last summer, I know I keep going on about it, it winds people up (It winds me up!) and there have been threads about it but it is a fact.

I was getting excited about this summer a week ago and no-one (Barr Everton) have done a great deal of business but my hopes for this summer have nosedived a little bit for some reason. or another, hopefully my excitement returns.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Also pretty much what my thoughts are. You saved me doing any typing.

Bournemouth better not finish ahead of us in the table again lol

I am starting to warm to Bournemouth. I think they'll be in this league for a long time.

A good opening post. It would be nice for Vichai to come out and say something to get us excited again. E.g. "We loved our time in the Champions League and want to get back there as soon as possible!"

But in our owners I trust. They've made mistakes along the way but they've also been rather brilliant too!

Didn't he or Top say something very similar in their programme notes for the Bournemouth match?

They will have a plan, but there is no point making grand statements in the press and putting unnecessary pressure on our new-ish manager. We also need to resolve the Mahrez situation we can't go out and buy a replacement until he leaves we also need to be careful that we don't buy players for the sake of it.

The hype and expectation after winning the title has died down, we have the players and structure to do well but we could also struggle again. I think any statements by the owners should be about where we aim to be in 4-5 years time. This season could be great, shite or somewhere in between. Last season should have been about consolidating our position to kick on this season, but our disastrous mid-season put paid to that. So this season should be about consolidating ourselves as one the better second tier teams and then kicking on next season.

They is still heaps of time for the club to make player movements in and out. Most if not all are still on vacation.  Just because we haven't announced many new players or anyone leaving doesn't mean things aren't progressing.  Things are not in the public domain and I am happy they aren't frankly.  Yes we as fans want good things to talk about and lot's of player activity but just because it is not in the press does not mean our manager and staff aren't working on getting their targets as well as working to move on players that have no future here. It is not even July guys.  Chill.

The thread wasn't just a player recruitment thing though

tbh I'm pretty sure the owners will just be content with us staying up each season with the money they receive

I don't know what would happen if we got relegated in the next few seasons though, honestly haven't got a clue how they'd react

There is blatantly a gap in quality between the ownership level and the player management level.

I did think the reason Top bought the Belgian club was because it was almost mission accomplished with Leicester providing we continue to play Premier League football.

I'd like our next aim to have a world class academy and to hone our counter attacking tactics. Through those I'd like us to win more trophies.

The 3 Bournemouth players were not wanted by their clubs it's  more difficult to get players in that the owning club don't want to sell, there's usually a reason for that.

Getting players to leave or want to leave out of the club is not an easy task either as we can see with Mahrez where the player has a big say in any move.

As for a plan I seem to remember the aim was top 6 within 5 years, in many respects winning the league and doing it so early has rather muddied the waters. I'm hoping that the focus is still on a top 6.
