I assume he meant because Walsh is the DOF rather than him identifying the targets which clearly he is involved in

Even for Ferguson to acknowledge Walsh when we were crowned champions, show the mans influence on our success. Everton arent paying anymore than us. It nots so lack of ambiton from our owners, its some of the idiotic decisions from those who run the club for them. As many good decisions, in the last 18 months there have been some bad one whihc is currently undoing the hardwork and success that we could have built on and sustained. That is the frustrating thing. As for Iborra - like I say I pray he is worth the transfer fee We are not paying the money Everton are. eg Keane last year - you said so yourself in an earlier post that we would stump up. Monkeys and peanuts...,,ringing amy bells.
Babylon Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 172 matches and 30 goals is some going to be fair... would take DD about 30 years to get than many

If this signing was made at the end of a window where we got Maguire, Iheanacho, Gibson a Winger and Mendy going out. We'd all probably be saying, ah ok I see what the thinking is here, that's a solid window. Yep very fair point. I think it'll all work out in the end, and two signings before most people are back from pre season is good going in my book.

Take a look at Keane, his style of play etc, he wouldn't want to come here in a million years, we needed a maguire who is happy to defend and lump out when we need him too and that's what we've got. Whilst Keane might have been the preferred choice for fans, he doesn't suit our style IMO therefore the scouts have gone a different way.
Grantham Fox Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 Think this'll be a good signing for us. Better than what we have, maybe bar Ndidi, maybe Drinkwater on his day.

We were happy enough to get Keane last year as well.
brookfox Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 No idea why but he reminds me of when we signed Dean Hammond!

Did someone at the club come out in public and say we had bid for him last season? Or was it just more speculation like we've had this year?

Clubs of our stature (I'm not being ironic) and resources don't buy players on a whim, we plan a minimum of 2-3 windows ahead, with a number of choices targeted for each position. Iborra would have been identified before we played against him in the CL. I think you give the people in charge of such things at our club far too much credit.

Walsh wanted him here and now Walsh has took him to Everton so I can only assume it was more than likely the case.

Yeh I don't doubt Walsh wanted him, but I bet Claudio didn't and Shakey although he made us better at passing in midfield/up top he didn't really make the defenders play out from the back so I can't see that changing. I just don't think Keane would have wanted to join, he made a point yesterday of saying he joined Everton to play passing football.
tsintskaro Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 I dont get it,why shouldnt anyone has right to whine about any signing?and this guy is not Messi for sure i really like club getting him and wanna see in game, but come on,i would understand if anyone had questions about this trade rip my english

My point still stands. We do't have the draw so are paying over the odds - something which you just called the club idiots for doing so - now you say we are not paying enough? Get your arguments straight buddy! So does mine, did we really need another CM for £12m who is effectivley a squad player? Thats the issue I have with it. Swansea came in for him, our bid is accepted. As for Profile, we won the league, we have modern facilites that are being talked about for expansion, we have a handful of player with salaries over 6 figures a week. Good owners who invest , and a good crowd and fan base.Thats our strength, thats our draw, thats our pull. I didnt call the big clubs idiots, far from it. They can spend within their means. So should we. But please dont tell me that you are cartwheeling over this deal. We didnt offer the extra on 3 deals last summer, yet we bought cheaper options and more of them, out of which only really Ndidi has worked out well to date. £20m for Keane last summer, we offer £17m - thats my point. I am not talking about competing financially with Chelski, Man city or Man U, Liverpool or Arsenal, Im talking about competing with all the rest , which we should certainly be doing, not just the usual relegation fodder.

Its common knowledge last year we were in for him - Walsh had lined it up. He wanted to come, in the end we wouldn't pay Bunley's asking price - about £17m I think.

Fantastic asset to the squad, to the bench and he'll likely start in our midfield by the sounds of it.

Maybe last summer in the reflected glow of the league win, they felt we didn't need to pay our way cos of what we had achieved. That players would be so desperate to come here. And if we stated that 17m was our absolute top offer then I can promise you that it's extremely rare to find a se Asian businessman who would lose face (in their view) by going back with more money.
