urban.spaceman Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 The Mercury says the Sunderland transfer fell through because the Sevilla players found out about it and threatened a revolt if they sold such a popular and influential player.

I am being totally realistic. Small minded mentality, and we go and pay more than needed, do the proper homework on a squad player. What have they learned - nothing. If people like Rudkin were in my busness, I would have got rid. They dont know how to negotitate a fair market valuation. Keep you prized assests where possible, and add to those, pay over the odds. Michael Keane is travesty, he played down here, wanted to come, we wouldnt pay. Ok so now go out and pay and get Ben Gibson, captain for his club, young and I think he will play for England at some stage. No because we wont pay. You pay peanuts you get monkeys, you dont spend you dont get. Fans are doing somersaults over signing a player who played for club who we knocked out of Europe and is on his way down in terms of his career. Im not writing him off, I hope he's the next best thing, but read between the lines, it does look like another Gokhan Inler. Bang on. We're signing a player who was touted to Sunderland last season. It's easy buying players who aren't particularly valued by their clubs but a lot harder when you're trying to sign a club's best player like Gibson, Keane, Sigurdsson, etc. It wouldn't take a lot of effort for a club to come here and prise King, Benalouane, Ulloa, etc away but try coming here for Schmeichel, Ndidi, Vardy, etc. I'm of the opinion that if a player isn't good enough for Sevilla then he isn't good enough for us. We're a wealthier club and pay higher salaries and when it comes down to it money is 90% of the attraction. However it's very kind of us to take one of Sevilla's cast offs at a generous price. Our whole transfer policy infuriates me, we should always be trying to sign the best players in the world out there that aren't at the biggest clubs. It all smacks a bit of FM2017 when you sign the best out there that's been offered to you rather than quality scouting being the key.

Honor soccer players like him.
StriderHiryu Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 Well worth going to the Sevilla forum and seeing what their fans think: http://www.forooficialsfc.com/index.php?topic=4874.2100 I think this is a good one: ------------------------------------------ Iborra is not a starter, nor is he indisputable, but he brings some kind of characteristics that other midfielders do not have, and gives the coach more alternatives when it comes to making the changes. He will not start every game, but every season he is part of that group of 14-15 players who play everything, and always with a remarkable performance. And then also, he is the absolute leader of the dressing room. This is not a trivial issue. There are people of weight like Pareja or Carriço, but it is clear that Iborra is the captain for more things than his age. I would not like your departure and I think it's a mistake. If it is he who decides that his time has come to try another league, maximum thanks and farewell through the big door. For me this type of footballers have to stay always.

To get players with pedigree who are not up and coming we have to pay over the odds - Rudkin et al have at least learnt that after last seasons transfer window. This. People on here need to wake up. If we want a player, we have to pay what is required to get him. We have to pay a bigger fee and more wages than any other 'mid table' club to get players. Otherwise they will go elsewhere. We struggled to be attractive when Champions, and these are literally the prices we have to pay. Some people are whinging he was available a cheaper last year. That's how 'the market' works, not only is there ridiculous inflation in transfer fees due to the money swilling around in England, if you want to buy someone the price invariably rises - supply and demand. Whether this guy is going to be any use to us I honestly don't know, but I am surprised at the negativity on here. I would be amazed if we were to land Iheanacho, simply because we are not in Landan, and we flirted with relegation last year, so I'm going to wait until I've seen him in action before saying he's not a starter.

If I was in charge of the club I'd invest heavily into improving the quality of our scouting and target players up to the age of 26 who are the best players in their clubs or leagues for example Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Brazil, etc.

The only problem with entrenching ourselves further in counter-attacking style is that Vardy & Mahrez are critical to it, sure some people seem to want Mahrez to go, but IMO we'll miss him & miss him a lot Some do seem to want him gone, but I think there are an awful lot of us who agree with you

richardsfoxes Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 Versatile, a leader, good around the dressing room, solid Europa league/champions league player oh and played for one of the best teams outside of Barca and Real in spain only Leicester fans in 2017 could moan about this signing jesus....

You make him sound like he's one of the best players in Spain. He's a Sevilla squad player who nearly joined Sunderland last season, he probably won't even make our starting XI when everyone is fit.

To add to this, any selling club will always add to the 'value' of the player they are selling if the buyer is a Premier League club. If you then add the fact that to get that player to Leicester as opposed to say a London club, then probably requires more again

Players are going to Everton for two reasons: Walsh and money. Idiotic letting Walsh move when he'd signed a contract. They have billionaire owners and so do we. As good as ours have been, it strikes me there is much more ambition from their billionaire than from ours. I don't have an issue with this particular signing - until I've seen him play.

jammie82uk Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 Not sure if already been mentioned but The added increase to the transfer fee compared to Sunderland's accepted bid could be down to the fact he signed a new contract after that deal fell though he had 18 months left when Sunderland bidded he has 3 years left on his current contract when we bidded
