Gibson is right now, Sigurdsson has Everton as his preferred desintation at the minute as we didnt buy him last season. Ieanacho is a perfect example . I can't be bothered to google it all up, theres plenty. On another note, we don't have 2 right backs in the squad, yet we have 7 CM now. Need to clear out those who dont want to be here In your opinion is that a lack of backing from upstairs or due to the advice of those in management positions?

I don't think they lack business sense, I think they've got too much of it. I think they realise the profitability of being a consistent mid table team and they're happy to have that. If pushing on to the next level means splashing the cash then I think they're perfectly content with mid table obscurity whilst making the club profitable. We've only ever finished mid-table once while they've been here, and that included a brief relegation scrap and Champions League. Our owners are ambitious and we're building to get back in to Europe as the next aim, just look at all the interviews from players/staff at the end of last season 'need to get back to Europe asap' etc

Need to clear out those who dont want to be here If you're saying its because we are cheap then okay but we would have to offer MORE in transfer and wages than any other club to get a player here and still they'd play for less at other clubs with a higher profile. My point still stands. We do't have the draw so are paying over the odds - something which you just called the club idiots for doing so - now you say we are not paying enough? Get your arguments straight buddy!
matty98 Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 Don't see how he fits our style, we need 2 energetic midfielders for our 442 to work. Perhaps we're moving to a new formation

I am being totally realistic. Small minded mentality, and we go and pay more than needed, do the proper homework on a squad player. What have they learned - nothing. If people like Rudkin were in my busness, I would have got rid. They dont know how to negotitate a fair market valuation. Keep you prized assests where possible, and add to those, pay over the odds. Michael Keane is travesty, he played down here, wanted to come, we wouldnt pay. Ok so now go out and pay and get Ben Gibson, captain for his club, young and I think he will play for England at some stage. No because we wont pay. You pay peanuts you get monkeys, you dont spend you dont get. Fans are doing somersaults over signing a player who played for club who we knocked out of Europe and is on his way down in terms of his career. Im not writing him off, I hope he's the next best thing, but read between the lines, it does look like another Gokhan Inler. this (but then the slimani transfer doesn't fit into that but I assume it became a 'beckford panic buy' scenario). I assume the desire to refuse to pay the 20/25m fees and go in the 10/18m market instead comes from high up in the club. I wouldn't be blaming the foot soldiers for that strategy. I have thought for many seasons now that we are pretty mean when it comes to spending money on fees.

Yeah, in the same way Andy King and Schlupp helped us win a title. Just stating someone played a part doesn't mean anything unless you actually look at what they offered in detail.

The middle of the pitch is fine age wise currently.
SecretPro Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 Player not kicked a ball yet and everybody hates him shock horror

Chelsea players talk about how big of an influence Terry was last season. He barely played but still led from the sidelines.

She can balance books, and do all that side, but she is CEO, and she employs management she doesnt claim to know anyhthing about the game. Joke. You need somebody who does. Football has a business model, and its not the same blueprint as any other business, but those who understand the game will go go further.

I understand that but £12m for probably three years of service for what looks to be a squad isn't great business. Obviously it remains to be seen if he's any good but ok not too keen on this signing.

Mate a lot of what you say is valid, but Susan doesn't have anything to do with transfers.

Of course it was a panic buy, we needed a marquee signing - we had just earned the best part of £250m for winning the title, By the way I dont think he'sshit, I dont think we are set up to play to his strengths. I totally get why Walsh left.
TJB-fox Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 People weren't moaning about Susan when we pissed the championship, or the premiership...
Melbourne Fuchs Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 I google translated a few comments on the Sevilla Twitter page, they all seem pretty sad to see him go.

I can see the potential plus points (experience, great captain and club man, big, strong, puts the ball in the net), but I'm not going to ignore the fact they are happy to let him go, he was going to sign for Sunderland, he didn't start a huge number of games and it's not entirely clear how he fits in other than being a better option than Andy King. We also thought Inler would be that. Looking forward to seeing him play and fingers crossed he adds another dimension just as he does for Sevilla.
