Pretty sure chelsea have been using this as a way of forcing everton to accept a lowish bid for barkley.

I don't think it's a low bid for Barkley at all.

10 months left on his contract and out injured until November, I don't see why anyone would pay £25m for him. Everton have to get a deal done today or possibly sell him in January. I would sell at almost any price if I had to as his value is plummeting. He's worth £0 in five months once the January transfer window is over.

Why would drinky go to sit on the bench. It seems England isn't guaranteed anymore

Gareth Southgate’s England regime places greater emphasis on playing time

This is great news if true and if adhered to.

It's good for England and good for smaller clubs like Leicester as it will help to prevent the bigger clubs hoarding players and give us a recruitment advantage.

And now mahrez is gonna and there is no replacement! I wanna cry!

There isn't?

actually, there might not be player for player, position for position but we would certainly look to replace the wages and use the fee

This isn't going to happen

I have been naive to think it won't. But after his transfer request I hope he does go. No statement to the club supporters.

Chelsea's bid for him, I'm told, includes a £7.5m add on if they win the Champions League and half that if they reach the semi finals.

Their preference is Drinkwater over Barkley.

Will definitely be awkward if no move goes through and we have a very unhappy player at the squad!

He'll get over it ...   said he loved it here ..  then he wants to go ...   then he'll love it here again ...   then ...   you get the picture.

What's the bid?

I really hope we have a replacement lined up. Great opportunity for us to add some much needed creativity at CM.

Think he had something in his new contract that stated if a big club comes in for him he should be allowed to go at a minimum price

Riyad might have scuppered his bid. My worry is Shakes, would the owners care that much about pissing him off that much by selling them both? I say no.

Is that just for this season or over the length of the contract?

The two clubs seems a million miles apart on valuation but maybe they could both save face if the deal ended up being £30m + £10m add ons. Chelsea need a English CDM to fill the void in their squad and quota so perhaps they become increasingly desperate to find a solution and maybe we want rid of Drinkwater now after his transfer request antics.

If that were the case he'd already have gone.

i've met the lad and he comes across as an arse.

I think he is a bit of a miserable git to be fair. Not sure how well he would respond to being denied this move but he is on the fringes of England so would need to buckle down and get on with it which I think he would.

No word on any replacements. Concerning with Mendy going as well which leaves us with only 4 CMs.

It was the bid for £23m. Presumably only for this upcoming season. I believe we're not that bothered about the CL clause and would rather just have a outright transfer fee for upwards of £30m.

We all try and cope with the prospect of losing half our team and players wanting to go in different ways ..

It's weird we bid for gylfi which meant we know we needed a creative midfielder and when that was knocked back we didn't go for an alternative even though we know we have a gap in the squad.

We've done this before where we miss out on a target but then don't go for an alternative and then just muddle on.
