Drinkwater

Surely the 'Drinkwater is average' comments are a little disingenuous !

Yes, didn't perform to the best of his abilities last term, (who did)?.  But he remains an important and integral member of the team.

He's the one CM we have who's mind seems to be in 'synch' with JVs  !

If we sell, particularly now, we have £££ we don't need, a 'hole' in the team and the task of finding a suitable replacement/upgrade.

Replacement would probably use up the incoming fee, upgrade even more....Then there's the 'bedding in spell' for Mr New Guy, which could go either way, (Huth/Mendy) !

So much simpler to keep a very decent player and save the other hassle for another day!

Not sure about your observation that he's the only MF in synch with JV. Did you miss James's pass to JV the other night? And, previous to his injury, James played regularly behind JV.

£37m for a player who has been absolute toilet since November.

Surely Drinkwater's value has peaked if this offer is true?

No one can say with any certainty that he'll even be in the first XI for Leicester this season.

Drinkwater at his best was brilliant for us but he's still a bit of a jack of all trades central midfielder.

If the powers that be had a lot of faith in our recruitment team then surely we sell at that price and reinvest?

They certainly need a CM, their recruitment has been pretty shoddy this summer, so a panic buy for Drinkwater is probably where they are at right now... still think it's rubbish though.

It's been shoddy ever since Emenalo took over the DOF role, Mourinho nearly didn't come back because of him, to the point where Emenalo offred to resign! lol

They've signed an subsequently sold Lukaku, Mata and De Bruyne under his stewardship.

In terms of stand out signings that have worked since he took control of transfers....

Hazard, Azpilecueta and Pedro are the only ones that stand out to me, and they were hardly rocket science!

I admit i am a drinky fan.... yet his last 6mths was poor.  We know he is confident and able to boss a pl game.  Not many players with that experience will go for less than 50m.

I would rather keep him. ... i think our owners will want to look tough so unless chelsea will shell out they can p1ss off

what could we get for 37m

I think it'll be more 'What can we get for 75-80m' when you combine him and Riyad... the problem is what can we get in the space of a couple of weeks.

I'd have trusted our old network to find 4 really good players for that cash a couple of seasons ago, now i'm not so sure.

Looking at that money though, plus whatever is left in our actual budget, we could easily get a RB, CB, RW and another attack minded CM if we combined class with potential.

Throw in a few loan deals and we could get everything we need..... wishful thinking though.

I forgot Willian... he's amazing!

I don't think it takes much to sign Costa and Kante though... i was looking more at quality lesser known talents he has brought in.

Not to mention sanctioning all the loans out that lead to the mess that was their bench yesterday, even Cahill has come out and voiced his concern.

Luiz... as in the bloke they bought then sold then bought again?

And Alonso who was shocking yesterday and is being held together by the fact Kante covers him and Moses bombing forward like nutters?

Also not that difficult to sink a shed load on Fabregas really is it? Even he only looked good last season since signing.

There just doesn't seem to be any variety with him, he signs people either he or the world knows, and seems to sell people who go on to be worldies.

Luiz as in the one everybody in the world thought was shite but he came in last season and was utterly amazing as they won the league.

Alonso as in the one who was shit for Sunderland but played left wing back last season and was utterly amazing as they won the league.

Fabregas as in the lad who had been tearing up world football for years so they signed him for relative pittance and was utterly amazing as they won the league.

What we want:

Sell Drinkwater for 37mil

Mahrez stay

What will happen:

Drinkwaters stays

Mahrez goes

Mahrez can go. I don't want any players at the club that don't want to be there. He can take his gloves to warmer climes.

You think their success last season was more down to Matic than Luiz and Alonso?

Come off it mate.

to put this in perspective, you could probably sign fabregas with that sort of money and save a little, if it weren't for the fact the Chelsea squad is considerably short of players

I wouldn't sell as I don't see how and when we'd get an adequate replacement. Even for 50M. The market is absolutely crazy atm.

You won't go far wrong as a club if you sell your players when they're reached the peak of their value.

£37m still buys you almost any player in the world outside of a hundred of them or so.

It maybe what you want. It's definitely not what I want.

Losing Drinky would be a disaster.

I think he's worth 30M at best and this just because of the inflated market. Unless you can somewhere unearth a gem like Ndidi I can't see any quality midfielder coming in the PL for less than 50M. Neymar's transfer will contribute to skyrocket the prices even more.

No that’s why I said Matic and Kante...

You do remember how good Wes and Huth looked with Kante in front of them right? And how good DD looked.

Theres a reason they’ve bought Bakayoko, they know they’re screwed with that formation/those players if Kante gets injured.

Salah is looking cheap for Liverpool. And that was 39m, great player though. Prices have gone mad. And you are probably right Neymars transfer will probably just make it worse. Barca will pay 100+ m for Coutinho. Liverpool will have to panic and buy someone over the odds. The selling team will need to replace and so on.
