"Former Chelsea and Leicester City goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer believes Danny Drinkwater has ‘definitely got the ability’ to make the step up and play for a club like the Blues."

Got the ability ?? Jeez, perhaps he'll get a Premier League winners medal one day or play in a Champions League quarter final. Then he might have the ability to make the step up.

He signed a new deal a year ago! That's not what's going on here.

It is. DD wouldn't be acceptable squad filler for Chelsea, unfortunately. There'll be no formal bid of this, its all just Chinese whispers and hearsay. He'll probably get a year addendum to his contract and we'll hear nothing more of it.

Even Barcelona were a selling club this week.

If you get an offer for a player for far more than he's worth you sell.

That was his release clause?

They didn't want to sell. Had no choice?

That fee was supposed to be fool proof.... !

I just don't trust our recruiting anymore...?

I never liked Schwarzer, one of our worst signings in recent times.

I did not forget his excellent performances and he should have at the Euro in 2016.

However and from what I've read here, he's not been exactly consistent since he came here with one good season and the next one being bang average. Chelsea are in the need of a back-up. He won't start unless Bakayoko is a flop. If Matic stayed there is no way they'd be after him and we'll see in the next weeks how serious they really are about him.

"Injury" you say, then he still must be injured because the pre-season is the exact continuation of his poor form from last season. Slowing the game, passing backwards and late on the man. Or he's downing the tools and sulking because he wants to move? Joke aside, I think that he simply was crap last season, just like the others, bar Kasper and Simpson to a certain extent. Not a popular opinion, I know.

As for the most accomplished all-round english midfielder, well that's your opinion.

You are right about DD's role at Chelsea, he could end up being Steve Sidwell, but...

Am I going mad, or was there not a story (late season) that DD was putting off an operation to try and help us stave off relegation. I presume that is the injury that he got earlier in the season, which has been mentioned by a few on here. One of the things about his injury is that (i think) it was one of those you don't advertise to your rivals, so I think it wasn't heavily reported until later in the season.

I think it is fair to criticise his pre-season form, which I'm certainly disappointed with, but he is coming back after an op, so who knows? He was one of our best players in the early part of last season, so I hope he can get back to his best form.

£37m is a splendid fee, but DD has shone for us before, and I don't give up our Immortals easily!

I fear that DD's likely prime as a player has been compromised by a somewhat early descent into the injury plagued years that are more typical of the twilight of careers.

Once you get chronic lower-body soft tissue injuries, they rarely if ever resolve themselves and the player comes out on the other side.

I'm sorry  ZeGuy but if you live in Cologne you can't possibly know how any of the team perform except on TV. That's not real life. Go to a few live games then judge. DD is a great player hence the chelsea rumours which I think are complete bullshit.

That's the most absurd argument I've ever heard, to put it mildly. A astonishingly weak appeal an authority and judgement's legitimity through "live presence".

So the pundits can't possibly comment a game and anyone who can't attend to the match should give up on watching it, because "they wouldn't get it" or formulate an adequate judgement anyway and just wait for the report of those who were there and have seen everything. Ridiculous.

That's why FT is full of complete bullshitters like yourself. Keep watching TV or FIFA games and make your judgements from those:D. I listen to radio Leicester on the way back from the match and some call in to discuss the game having listened to Stringer commentating on the game. Arsoles like you:D

Thanks for the great conversation and good night, my good sir. Keep up the good work.

I guess we should sell him because his form has dropped, would be of better use to Chelsea because they have Kante, Leicester should make use of his price now, and I guess he could be holding back potential decent midfielders if he plays. (Iborra, James, Barnes)

Possibly the most idiotic argument I've seen on FT, really absolutely astonishing. I seriously hope you're joking or I really feel bad for you.32,000 people get to watch Leicester on a semi-regular basis if they are very lucky, the hundreds of thousands of other people that also like to watch but can't attend live (who get the added benefit of replays) are all complete bullshitters.

You absolute genius.

So the only people eligible to have an opinion are those that attend the game !!!! You do realize that most big league clubs do their scouting using the media of television. I live seven time zones away & watch 90% of Leicester's games not to mention many premier & championship games. My opinion is as valid as yours, possibly more so due the introduction of replays.

The only thing you have managed to do is make yourself look like a bit of a bellend...

Watch out lads he might  now say it depends where you are viewing the game at the KP. Angles and all...

Well it's clearly only those 6 rows in on each side that can really say how he's performing- that's the optimum viewing position for where Danny plays..

Are you 'Andy from Long Eaton' perchance?

They sold Matic, that's why. Conté needs a back-up midfielder.

He was excellent until last Christmas, indeed. After that if we had Iborra or James, he'd have been benched, lets not kid ourselves he just played because there was litterally no alternative. On his actual form he's not a starter either.

I also think seeing he is English and the need for teams to have local talent playing an important role in this if true. With Brexit coming who knows what the likelihood will be for local born players.

Anyone else a little concerned that mahrez and drinky could both go late in to the window and we don't look to be linked with ANY other midfielders?

I think the big test for that theory on Drinkys side will be Friday, as he's missing the game and it'll show whether we will miss him IF he goes.

With Mahrez, we've had plenty of time to sound out a replacement, so you'd hope the club has that covered. I hope.

REALLY THINK WE HAVE STUFFED UP ANOTHER TRANSFER WINDOW, would have thought we would have got another CB and a attacking midfielder by now. now on top of not getting these position filled we are still trying to fend of teams from poaching MAHREZ  AND DRINKWATER. this cannot be good for the team going into a new season and too think we have such a hard draw to start with we could be one win from 4-5 games. i just dont get it who the hell is in charge of our side, to let things be like this 4 days out from the start of the season.

Take some chill pills or go for a smoke. Who are we fending off of Drinky ?
