Stuffed up a transfer window? Needed a young centre back and got Maguire who looks solid. We needed a good striker and struck a deal for Iheanacho!. We needed an experienced cm and brought in Iborra. I don't class that as stuffed up a transfer window. Yes we still need a few more (RB cover, Winger and a ACM), but we still have time. Chill out a little. Also, I wouldn't class of "fending off interest for Mahrez" as he's actively looking to move on. In his case, we need to move him on if he does t want to be here, even though he is our most creative, and possibly most talented player. I don't want to see him go but can also understand why. Oh and WRITING IT IN CAPITALS DOESN'T HELP.
FLAN Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 Darren Lewis on the moan in seems sure he will end up at Chelsea

What an absolutely ridiculous statement , nacho, Maguire , Jakob and iborah are clearly improvements to the starting 11 or squad. Mahrez and Drinkwater are still here although could go. 1) how do you know the club have not got a contingency plan? 2) where's the magic player tree that we can just pluck these upgrades from who would happily come to LCFC anyway especially if say Mahrez stays and they are benched. IMO a DD of last season would see us mid to bottom half so on that score and from pre season James is an upgrade. Some of our fans are clearly deluded and think a mere pick up of the phone secures a top players services when we are competing against other rich and a lot of the time richer and bigger clubs. I think some of us older supporters have a more realistic view of transfer proceedings and prospects. People can slate Rudkin all they want but in Nacho and Maguire and possibly Ibora too he's stepped up to the plate and some.
Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 As ever Lewis' story doesn't add up. Last summer, it wouldn't jeopardised their attempt to sign Kante, he had a release clause and chose them. The club couldn't do anything.
FLAN Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 No but we were hardly going to sell both so they focussed on their priority

Our season may start on Friday but there are 23 days left of the transfer window. It may be preferable to sign players and give them preseason friendlies but it's not always possible. We will have targets and lots will be happening behind the scenes. I think we've covered most positions though (ideally another RB and CB would be nice - and I'd love a creative midfielder, but I think the midfield we have has shown it can work (after all most of them won the league and did okay in Europe last season). Lets leave comments about stuffing up a transfer window until the window is closed, not when it's only just over halfway through.

Kante had a release clause to leave for £20m odd to a Champions League club. We only sold to Chelsea for £10m more because if we hadn't then he probably goes elsewhere for £10m less. We just made the best of a bad situation.

All the ITKs say we are in for a center back but apart from that I would agree but there is like nearly a month left still

Jeees, we've actually brought in two players who are almost certainly better than what we have in Maguire and Iheanacho. If we lose Mahrez and Drinkwater we'll get a lot of money for them and as far as I'm concerned I'm reasonably happy if they were replaced in house with Demarai Gray and James or Iborra.

Pretty much every team in the prem has complained about how hard it has been to sign players due to inflated prices and wages. Teams don't want to sell their best players just like we don't want to sell Mahrez and Drinky. Compared to the other teams outside the top 6 (excluding Everton) i think we've made some decent signings. Bournemouth have done ok and Hernandez was a good signing for west ham but other than that it's been a poor window all round. We know we need another defender and a cam and im sure shakespeare and his team are also aware of that. Better window than last summer as we've got 2 proven prem players in maguire and iheanacho, dont think we signed any proven prem players last summer.
Hack Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 Chelsea have the smallest squad they have had in years. Expect them to get at least 3-5 players before the window ends. Drinky a real chance to go I think.

I wish there was an emoji that was just an arse with words flowing out. But there's not so I understand you must be frustrated by what you see as a lack of significant signings but how the hell can anyone judge how successful/poor a window has been before a ball's been kicked? When we shocked the world and won the league, not many was awestruck with our window at the time. Kante, Okazaki weren't 'proven', Cambiasso left and we signed a 40 year old keeper that was never likely to play. This season, our Squad is stronger than it was then. The first eleven may be debatable obviously because Kante was not only the best in the league in his position but more importantly, absolutely imperative to how effective our counter attack based style was. But taking into consideration (imo) the massive upgrade on Okazaki in Kelechi, the return of James (the importance of this being massively underrated by some imo). If we do lose Danny I think we already have suitable reinforcements in both Matty and Iborra. Iborra may well yet be the signing of the summer ( that's kinda my point, nobody knows yet). And as for Maguire everyone on this forum has been crying out for a 'ball playing' CB and now we have one. I think Mahrez will end up staying purely out of circumstances till January, if he doesn't no doubt THAT is a big void but Gray, Lawrence although not at Riyads level yet, it could be argued that one if not both are equal to the level Riyad was at, at their age. This team has absolute potential, even with a couple of departures/arrivals, let's not go into a new season fearing the worst , instead embrace the chance to change, to challenge the order of the establishment. again. 'STUFFED UP?' my arse!

Long Eaton Fox Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 Sorry if I offended anyone. Just don't want Drinky to go.
CosbehFox Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 If they bid £30million plus he will go. I am scratching my head though when Chelsea can get better value for money.
NotTheMarketLeader Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 The Express allege he's 1/7 to STAY on Betfair.
Ian Nacho Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 In all honesty, I can see this happening if the reports are true that Conte regards Drinky highly and Drinkwater is keen on the move. Why I think we would let this happen is that we have so many central midfield players, £30m+ would be hard to refuse. We've got James, N'didi, Iborra, King, Amartey, Mendy (when fit) and we've also got young lads who will be hoping to push into the first team such as Choudhury and Thomas.
Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 In the Evening Standard today. This is definitely true, just a case of negotiations and whether Danny wants to warm the bench more often than play. It would however boost his international chances, whether he plays or not - crazy, but true.

Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 I do think Danny can continue to develop and become an even better midfielder. He was our best player by a country mile early season last year. Then from Nov onwards injured and looked jaded upon his return. Chelsea recognise he had a dip (with good reason) and they are seeking to buy the Premiership winning Danny.
