Old Fox Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 Too many fans think buying players is like football manager!!!! DD is one of the core players who is the heartbeat of our ethos as he has developed massively here and is instrumental in the dressing room to everything we stand for. Furthermore his best years are in front of him and Why would anyone sell their best players than less the offer is ridiculous. Replacing the character, ability, fit within the squad and potential in DD would be almost impossible for £35m before the window shuts!! Our owners want to compete with the Top Clubs and being a Southampton is no way to bridge the gap - luckily they have more savvy than a number of our fans and will not roll over to Chelsea!! hopefully he stays and continues to be a key player for the next few years!
Gazza M Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 Although we have plenty of central midfield options at the moment, we certainly don't have many quality options there. We couldn't afford to lose Danny at this late stage of the window. We need him back and fit playing for us.
Rigga Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 When DD is fit, is he now an automatic starter ? James was well above him in the pecking order of the great escape season. DD then had the luxury of Kante alongside him in our Champions season. Last season when DD was the 'main man' he went missing I think we can do better, and if we get more than £30m we would be foolish not to take it. However, the longer this transfer takes, the more we will struggle to replace him

Rigga Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 He wasn't injured for the whole season.. And even if so, it's poor of the management to carry on playing who can not contribute 100% to the team. He was a 5/10 at best...He has to move on from that glory over the top ball to Vardy..Too predictable as teams see DD in possession and drop 5 yards because they know what is coming. The scouts are paid to find that player, not me. Surely there's a player or two out there that can pass a ball 10 yards and build an attack based on possession football?

And the 'The scouts are paid to find that player' bit is a bit of a cop out to me .... Easily said. Who do you have in mind ?
RODNEY FERNIO Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 Are you guys convinced that even if Chelsea come in with an offer that is acceptable that Drinkwater actually wants to go there ? Obviously will be bought in as a squad option .. which might not appeal. Will going down to London be such a draw to a northern lad ? Will the way that Chelsea is being run at the moment be that enticing ? Chelsea at the moment look like a car crash waiting to happen ... something not quite right about Conte's relationship with Board.

Conte will be gone soon, he's had a falling out with the board and let's be fair they've sacked other managers for much less. Question is who would they get in to replace Conte? Drinky going Chelsea? I imagine a player doesn't go to a club for the manager, but the long term prospects of Chelsea winning the league again before us are much greater so yeah... he would go if they get a bid accepted.

England Manager...Lol...Same England manager that picked Jonjo Shelvey!! I think that says it all. My point re DD was that last season he was poor and that we are now too predictable as a team when DD has the ball.. We need a new identity and I have never been convinced that DD can be the main influence in a possession based team

Try not to re-write history mate.

Conte being clever...reunited with Kante and an English born player to help with his quota.. Lets be honest though, he is going so we need to replace him

KingsX Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 If the club have (or anticipate) an offer north of 30M, Rudkin should simultaneously be: (A) playing hardball with Chelsea -- a club in a pickle -- to maximize the price, and (B) burning up the phones with clubs and agents for any “wish list” midfield targets to see who can be brought in and for what price/wages. If he is not doing both, it’s plain malfeasance. Unless BOTH (A) and (B) work out, just walk away. But don’t just walk away and say don’t bother. It’s the DoF’s job to continually improve the club. A return to “2016 Drinky” is no more a sure thing than a return to “2015/16 Mahrez”.

The longer it goes, the less time we have to replace. i don't have any confidence in King or mendy when fit to perform well at PL level Replacements at short notice....Cabaye,Clucas, Romeu (would defo like him but won't happen)

As for the return of a 2016 DD and a 2016 Mahrez ... MUCH more chance of the former ... Imo.

ronnup Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 I just can't believe that him or Riyad don't have one if not more replacements ready should these sales go through. I mean, that's his ****ing job. Recruit. Anticipate. Scout. Prepare.

He's an excellent player but if we got £35m-£40m for him I think we can assume with a good degree of certainty that he'll never be worth any more that that. I'm all for selling our players when there value is at a peak price especially when they're replaceable. For us to refuse £35m-£40m is a terrible indictment on our scouting team that they don't have the imagination or ability to make us better long term with that money. So you're all for selling our players when they hit their peak?
mozartfox Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 We should try to recruit Southampton's scouting team and DoF. They seem to be able to replace big names for less cash on a very regular basis.
