What fcuks me off is if this had been a genuine option a few weeks ago we could have got Chaloblah, Baker or Loftus-Cheek in return.

Would have done 25m + Loftus-Cheek for sure.

Superb talent.

£50 million for Drinkwater? Even in today's utterly mad and inflated market that is off the scale.

Yes maybe.... but Chelsea will have to pay a premium as we are not looking to sell?

Their best approach would be to point to alternative options and then now or never us with a tempting offer..... but I don't know what other options they have.

I expect this to be done at 30m plus add ons

Me..... I wouldn't sell.  What good is 30m when you have no playmaker?

My guess is that the club already set up contingency plans last year when players like Kanté, Vardy, Mahrez and Drinkwater would all have been in high demand. If we sell, it's because Shakespeare and co have someone lined up. And I still see it as a big if, even when Chelsea come knocking with £40m.

That would be logical.... but this is leicester city.  Having promoted shake then he is grateful and there is a power vacume.... we need charismatic leadership

Got a feeling Shakey won't be here come the January window!

Different players though, Loftus-Cheek wouldn't replace Drinkwater, so we'd still need to find someone else.

This is going to go down like a mug of sick but if Drinkwater goes, I think we'll replace him with Sam Clucas. A player I think would do very well here.

This would be a devastating loss. He's just coming into the prime of his career. Can't blame if he moves though as it's a huge opportunity.

A huge opportunity to sit on the bench. I just can't see him starting for Chelsea unless others are injured.

RC was 20 m for CL clubs

If we hadn't sold to Chelsea for 32m then he would have gone elsewhere for 20m

Are you sure that was the setup? At the time there was a lot of speculation that there was some sort of 20m trigger clause. Above that we had to sell to the highest bidder. Sven then came in with a 30m Chinese bid which forced Chelsea to bid higher still.

That was the way I understood it at the time anyway.

Please explain.

Covered by others - CL clubs had a lower release clause, Sven's Chinese club placed a bid what made Chelsea have to push the fee higher.

Clucas is half the player Drinkwater is. I hope to god that's not his replacement. Clucas would be a squad player here and we already got enough squad players in King, Amartey, James & Mendy. No need to waste money on Clucas. We need starters, not bench players.

But that's if he can get back to that form. It's a bit like mahrez, would you rather have a fully motivated in form player or and out of form ineffective one? Give me albrighton over mahrez any day at the moment. Drinky hasn't been the same since Kante left unfortunately.

I also think that would be a good potential fit, people will always see the negatives, however I'm sure there's quite a few on here were saying sell sell sell re DD until it's looked more likely! A few changing their minds now.

I'm fairly sure that reputable journos have quoted the CL RC @ 20m. Chelsea had to go higher to secure his signature or they faced missing out when a CL club came in as there was no obligation for us to sell to them. Suspect sven's bid was showboating but it did a job for us (and as I recall it was 35m so Chelsea successfully argued it wasn't genuine enough to force them to match it ).

On subject, most feel DD has to be replaced but I don't see us linked to anyone who has all the facets that he possesses. Nor do I see any options out there who are gettable. Have a feeling that the club think we have enough without replacing him.

Maybe but we shouldn't be selling and £40-50 million ish sends out a signal we won't be fvcked over on this

Siggy going to Everton for £45 million is a daft benchmark so why not a similar price for Drinky?

Because Sigurdsson is a better player than Drinkwater and should thus have a higher price.

Different maybe better not in my book - in terms of importance to us, necessity to sell, age, importance within squad, role efficiency I actually believe Drinky is worth more!!

Good thing is so does Shakey and the owners so he won't going than less we get at least £40m!!!

Goodness knows how we find a replacement but hopefully we won't need too!

And a tw@.

The longer it goes on you talk like its Leicesters fault.

Chelsea need to make an acceptable offer first. But we know they want him so nothing to stop us looking and sounding out deals.

Wasn't a need to get personal ...but thanks anyway..

DD will go last min and we wont have chance to replace him...

On paper he'd be behind Kante, Bakayoko and  Fabregas to be one of the deeper sitting midfielders there but it's a long season, Champions league, cups, suspensions, Fabregas firing hot and cold and in and out of favour, he'd get quite a bit of action but probably without being a nailed on regular. Then there's the "greater than the sum of the parts" equation, alongside Kante it's a proven combination that even in a new shape wouldn't take time to gel.

It will be sick to see him in every England squad too even if ironically he's not playing every league game, just that big club bias and on his  "on" season (the one in two pattern) after we tolerated last seasons version of him albeit hampered by injury and hanging on at the end until we were safe. At his best he is our heartbeat, fulcrum, dynamo, playing one touch stuff, he stands out, opposition managers mention him as being outstanding - on his "off" seasons he's over cautious, under confident backwards passing and slowing things down with too many touches - but hey that was last seasons model, "dynamo Danny" is due this season!

We simply cannot sell for another good reason, the cost of my "Drinklager" printed shirt ffs.

Or they don't think he's the best. But do think he's best suited to play with Kante.

Quite a good chance considering they need home grown players and we don't.
