I cant believe I'm posting this as I laugh at those who usually do! Club just changed their facebook cover photo which included Drinkwater to one of Vards, Kasper, Morgan and Ndidi...... outgoing???

England international. Mid twenties, long-contract, excellent pro = in this market huge Muller. If we get fleeced on this we will be the laughing stock.

My feeling is, the stance we are taking on Riyad suggests we have finally woken up to proper negotiating.

They actually helped us if anything with Kante

Thats if he even left us for anyone else. He wouldnt have gone to China. Either way 20 or 32 mil is still called getting fleeced.

James will make the England squad before Drinkwater this season mark my words.

Let's get things about right Danny was awesome in our title winning year but he was alongside one of the best if not THE  best midfielders in the world . To be fair a three legged donkey would still look good alongside Kante . In 3 seasons in the Prem he has only been awesome in 1 . The other 2 mediocre to poor . Then we look at him in the championship where he was good in our promotion year yet many argue James was better that year . Then you have the season we first signed him and I seem to remember a lot of people asking where the player had gone who ran the game against us when playing on loan at Barnsley . So that makes 2 good seasons in 5 , yes hes a great player when he is on it but looking how he has started in the pre-season friendlies I'm not so sure he'll be on it from the word go this season . Add to this in all fairness Chelsea are one of the biggest teams going so it's not like he's skulking off to West Brom or somthing so he would see it as a step up . Who wouldn't take a promotion and pay rise at work . At the end of the day I look at it if he goes he goes he's been good for us but he's never a world class player that can't be replaced .

I agree with @Ric Flair about Sam Clucas as a potential replacement for Drinkwater. Problem with that is I don't think he's as good as Drinkwater.

Who else was on that FB piccie ?

it may not mean too much at this stage but if there is a chance that Chelsea could come up with the dosh then makes sense to be pro active rather than reactive

at least we know kasper and vards aren't going anywhere!!

Because Sigurdsson is a better player than Drinkwater and should thus have a higher price.

In your opinion maybe. Certainly not in mine. Drinkwater was central to us winning the prem, what has sigurdsson done other than take a few free kicks?

This situation with Drinky and Mahrez is why the transfer window should close as soon as the season starts.

Agreed. With a loan window continuing after the start of the season.

if money bags chelsea  thinks DD is the best out there, what chance of us replacing him with any one better

Exactly. If there was anyone "better" then Chelsea would be signing them. English or not.

You expect me to take you seriously with a comment like that?

Regular goals and assists, THE set piece specialist in the PL, consistent hard-working quality performances season in and out, being a key part of a similarly unfancied team that reached the QF of a major finals, knocking out a team that Drinkwater wasn't even deemed good enough to represent on the way?

I would be happy enough to keep DD, I think that on his day, he can control a game and he understands how we play but for £30m plus add ons.... I would be tempted to sell.

Over the last few years we've had, Drinky, James, Cambiasso, Kante and Ndidi in the CM and all have proven that we can get quality CMs for next to nothing.

Either way, I can see the sense in either decision but personally I would like to see us attempt a swap for someone like Willian.

The sad thing is, If Drinkwater does go to Chelsea and sits on the bench, He'll be a banker for the England squad. James could play every game and have the season of his life and still miss out because he plays for an unfashionable club.

The Wilshere over Drinkwater Euro 2016 squad selection pretty much proves this. A regular starter for Leicester (even though he was a league winner) still gets overlooked in favour of an Arsenal player who spend most of his career on crutches

I totally agree, but Drinky will surely be thinking that moving to Chelsea will increase his England chances, especially with it being a World Cup year

Chelsea won't play 40M for him. Should stick to our guns though otherwise we'll end up another Southampton selling our best players year after year.

But is he really? That's a matter of opinion for one plus they aren't really like for like midfielders as such

I would say title winning Drinky is at least worth what siggy is personally

get the Austrian sigurdsson Zlatko Junuzović these free kicks are mouth watering

He is 30 next month so would not cost that much, but worth a sniff at, as a squad player. He was excellent 3/4 years ago.

The ONLY good thing about him going is that we would also lose all those fookin fanboys too !! ....

Hang on ..  sorry ...  wrong thread ...

Yes, he is. Of course it's a matter of opinion. I could argue that from an objective (statistical) point he's superior, but people will try to skew them one way or the other so I won't bother.

It's a moot point, but I do not agree that he wouldn't be a 'like for like' replacement. He has more facets to his game than Drinkwater, including a central midfield box to box facet.
