Has preseason been planned well?

Why is it every game so far there seems to be this excuse of "We're much further behind them on our preseason and they were much sharper" It's something I've heard the club say on numerous occasions.

Now I know the lower leagues start earlier, so obviously they're going to start friendly games earlier, but this was being said out in Hongkong v opponents in the same league.

I can't put my finger on it, but something doesn't seem right this preseason.

Planing? Yes. Executing? No!

In preseason you need to try different formations and play style, dedicate some games to the new signings to make for a better chemistry and to up their confidence and fix the mistakes of last season, and so far, IMO those are lacking.

We've played three sides who kick off their season a week before us.

The next two games will be a good indicator to see where we're at.

I think the plan has been great, we've just been massively lacklustre so far.

I'm hoping that by the time we start the team are in great physical shape and end Arsenal's title challenge after one game :).

Last year versus Hull it was so obvious the players weren't fit yet. Hopefully that is corrected this time.

Seems better than last year that's for sure. We must have been one of the last English teams to start pre season though.

Obviously disappointed with the performances although I don't think we should hit the panic buttons just yet. Think we've squandered the opportunity to try out different formations

Baring in mind we played better in our first two friendlies in Hong Kong than we have done back home when we're now supposedly fitter and against weaker opposition. I'm not sure what to read in to on that, I'm hoping it really is just a case of using the matches to be match fit. We have a very tough start in the league though and it's not inconceivable we could be bottom of the league after 6 games.

Just need an early goal in the opening few games and we might just be the Leicester of old, it really could go either way with us.

I just think it was because it was more competitive, higher tempo fuelled by a hyper excited crowd that generated a good atmosphere.

Compare that to the games back home and it makes a massive difference.

Im not too worried, the games so far have all been about gaining match fitness, which has seen most of the squad get much needed minutes.

The next two games should be used to finalise what shaky thinks his best eleven/formation is.

If I remember correctly we have one of the best sports science departments in the country. They will have set out this preseason to get the players at peak fitness for the start of the season not a meaningless friendly. Training last week will have been focussing on fitness levels, not recovery and match readiness for MK Dons/Wolves, which is why we won't have been our sharpest. The purpose of these friendlies is that players are able to complete 90 minutes  comfortably and don't get injured.

For Wolves and MK Dons this was their big pre season match, they will have focussed their training on being 100% match ready, like we will be next week for Borussia M.

Didn't learn our lesson from last season and went abroad again chasing a bit of cash and the chance to flog some shirts.

I hope they're getting absolutely beasted daily at the moment or we're going to have another shite first few games.

Nothing like last season, going abroad early for a couple of games in Hong Kong is very different to jet setting around Europe and the US playing Celtic, Barca and PSG then the community shield and having no other friendlies.

Last year we went abroad and it undeniably affected our early season performance. This year we went abroad again, yes to only one time zone but even so the commercial benefits shouldn't come before the condition of the players.

Pretty sure we played Oxford last summer as well.

Last season we played a game in LA, then games in Sweden and Glasgow, not exactly a ****ing world tour was it.

It was a dumb excuse for us being rubbish last year and it'll be a dumb one this year. Everyone else manages to go on pre season tours without spontaneously combusting

Literevery premier league manages to play a couple pre season games in a different time zone, its really not as big of a deal to preparations as people on here seem to think.

Because people are looking for excuses to get away from the fact how boring our football is and how we lack creativity.

Eh? That's literally what it was. lol

Don't forget last season we were reigning champions. Teams came up against us with the added incentive of knocking us off our perch. This season I think it will be widely thought that everything is back to normal and we are just little old Leicester.

Im not worried. Come first game we will be ready. Vardy will want to tear Arsenal a new arse

It was a return flight to LA and a road trip to Scotland. At best it was a weekend break

Maybe the jet lag travelling to down town Glasgow really knocked them out and made them not score for months

And Sweden. Plus they were playing, training and taking part in any number of marketing events along the way - pretty exhaustive schedule. I think it was Gray who publicly complained about not knowing what time zone he was in by the end of it.

Plus, if it wasn't that big a deal why did they deliberately decide not to switch to Hong Kong time when they went over there last month?

Posted

If it IS a big deal how come it doesn't affect any other side?

Sweden lol big time difference over there?

I don't deny there were more events and stuff, but Hong Kong is further than LA, every other side goes on tours to the Asia and Australia and does far more travelling than we have. It was just a convenient excuse to use when performances went to shit.
