Mahrez latest on SSN next, hopefully it's nothing other than the usual rumours!

I'd rather someone just coughed up the fee so we can put this behind us and move on, the longer it drags on the more I fear we won't have time to sign a new winger

Riyad played well because Brighton didn't double up on him so he had the time and space to express him self. He is also on form.

I said this in the match thread.  He capitalized on the opportunity in the first minute, just like players of real class do.  He was literally up for it from the first minute yesterday! I think he or Marc could have been subbed earlier for Gray when we were comfortably 2-0 up, but only to give them a well deserved rest

You'd rather someone coughed up and bought him than he just didn't leave?  I don't think him going is a done deal by a long shot.

he wants to leave! I don't want players here that don't want to be here, especially someone the manager won't drop if he starts play play like he's not interested again, unless I have missed something Riyad hasn't made a new statement saying he is now happy here and no longer wants to leave, so find a buyer, get the money and don't leave ourselves short by selling last minute

Seems to be acting pretty professionally to me (look at Sanchez, Costa, Coutinho, Snodgrass to name but a few) and has openly said that if he doesn't leave he will accept it and knuckle down.  Lots of people seem to be ignoring that side of the equation, and I'd rather have Riyad on my team than someone else's.  Personally, I wish he doesn't get bid for, and stays and sticks to his word and performs for us than wish him away with no replacement in sight.

You would hope that we have a deal in place for someone ready to go if he does go late on. Although his is Leicester so it's probably Musa.

it's not about happiness, he didn't say he is unhappy or doesn' want to play  for Leicester anymore, he said he wants new challenges

its one thing doing so now but after the window shuts if we haven't sold? he played like he wasn't interested most of last season and with our style we cannot carry someone all season

when someone publically says they want to leave they don't want to play for you, thinking anything else is deluding yourself

Just because you want an upgrade doesn't mean you aren't happy with what you got!

I'm sure riyad would've been hailed as an honorable professional if some people didn't have bad blood with him (and some of it is understandable), after all, many people were saying "just one more season", and many thought riyad would have a great season and than leave, but him underperforming last season left a bad taste in many people's mouths, they feel like they were cheated.

Be carful what you wish for, he was the best player in preseason and contributed to 3 of the 5 goals in the league.

As long as there isn't a replacement half as good as him, I would be more than happy to keep the only POTY in the history of the club.

What's done is done, having bad blood with him isn't good for anyone, you saw how he smiled after the okazaki goal, that not a face of a man who hates being here.

Riyad gained a lot of respect from pundits, journalists and fans after he said that he wanted to leave but  still performed, many player in a a lot better situations than him, playing with better players and getting less "criticism" from his team's fans are refusing to play.

Not quite true - he lacked that small amount of personal motivation which makes the difference when it gets really tough. I believe he had personal issues early last autumn re his wife's pregnancy and when teams gave him space he did ok for us. when teams made it v difficult for him he didn't seem able to go the extra yards to try and get around the problem, both mentally and physically.  Making a generalisation that he was lazy and uninterested last season is too vague. I suspect teams are not rushing to meet our valuation because he has only had one o/s season and it's not like he is 21/22. if someone pays the money in the next ten days it is more about their desperation to placate their fanbase than anything else.

I see absolutely no problem with Mahrez continuing to play so long as his attitude is right. All his team-mates seem to be accepting him well enough. I imagine most  have their ups and downs regarding whether they should stay or not as most of the rest of us do in the workplace.

One thing's fairly certain. We'll be less of a threat without him.

Staying with us for another year isn't going to kill him off as a player or as much as a last minute move to somewhere like Roma where it could ruin his potential future, that's what he needs to realise.

One more good season here and the bids will be flying in.

Don't quite buy into this 'good attitude' thing as he knows that unless he starts to turn in some good performances he might end up stuck here  :o ...      However, it was great to see him back to his best and although that might convince other clubs to put in a bid, it also means we are quite justified in holding out for £50m ...      Win win ! ..  :)

He could've easily forced a cheap move like Payet. Obviously, he has ambitions to play in more established teams, but it's not like he hates Leicester. I'm sure he is still very grateful, which is why he stayed 1 more year and why he is acting nothing but professional.

Mahrez is quite a shy and unassuming man, he's been advised by his agent to be frank and open as early as possible this summer to get his move. The fact it's not happening although might be frustrating to Riyad, he's probably content to just get on with it if it doesn't happen. It's his agent that will now push and push in the closing days for a team to come in with a suitable offer. All Mahrez can do is concentrate on his football and if he continues his good start, he'll build on his reputation. We are a very very mediocre team without Mahrez's creativity, we've got no backup plan and if we evolve without him it'll be through an element of luck and not through good planning. That's why it's a bonus for me for every game more he plays for us, he's our magic man. With only a week and a half of the window to go and absolutely no alternative to him amongst our ranks, I couldn't get a million fcuks if he deep down wants to leave us, I love what he does for us and long may that continue even if it's until the next farcical transfer window. We should be more concerned about the direction the management and recruitment teams are taking us, the distinct lack of a plan for this is very disturbing.

I'd really really like to think that there is a plan, and I'd also like to think that the plan is being kept under wraps as long as possible so as to avoid it going tits up when we have to put it into place ....

Oh ..  and I'm looking forward to seeing Santa come down my chimney in a few months ...

Your argument makes no sense. I don't see how going to Roma could ruin his potential future.

Where is Salah playing right now?

Hoping he stays now. Getting too late to replace him.

I would have thought there would be a lot more links to the bigger clubs, if a bid of £40 million was coming.

The question will be, how well he will respond to being here once the window closes.

I think the club has been absolutely spot on in how they have dealt with it and so far, I can't really fault his attitude either.

Still think the best option he has at the moment, is to stay with us for 6-12 months and play his way back into a "BIG" move

Has Murphy commented that coutinho should be allowed to leave for 'bigger' club?  If not then he, too, is a hypocrite.

EDIT: he has said they should sell him so he isn't!

we really should have told Riyad's representatives weeks ago that a late move would not be sanctioned and they need to get the message out to potential buyers that his window closes before now. there were mutterings about this start of the season cut off. For all we know this may be the case (unless Barca come in as we may have agreed he can move to them whatever the timescale ).

As far as I am aware they where told no sale after the season kicks off unless it's an exceptional bid. Read back about two weeks ago.

What's not to get?

If he signs for roma barca are not likely to go near him for two years. By which time he'll be nearly 29 so not a great prospect then. If he stays here plays well until exams he could go to barca just befor he's 27.

Bookies state he is off to Chelsea, might be a good signing for them
