STUHILL Posted 15 August 2017 Posted 15 August 2017 Good move for him and like Knocky, could find his way back to the Premier League as their standout player and earn himself a chance to start each week that way. Mixed emotions about letting an obviously talented and young player go, but he hasn't done quite enough to force his way into the team and although I know Shakey was keen to hold onto him, I think we had burned a few bridges with him in terms of lack of contact when he was out on loan, and his lack of chances given to him whilst here. Decent money for him and hope he does well. Time to splash some cash on a seriously talented ACM/Winger now though.

We've not been mugged. We've sold a player who was considered not good enough for us with one year left on his contract. We can't offer him enough first team football so doesn't want to sign a contract and he could leave for nothing in less than a year. Now that may come back to bite us in the arse in a few years but cest la vie.

Thracian Posted 15 August 2017 Posted 15 August 2017 Bit disappointed - he seemed to have some positive effect as a player and i'm sad we felt we couldn't evolve that through to the next level. I don't say we were wrong or that perhaps he was wrong in accepting a move but it still leaves me wondering if we have people who are inspiring enough to get players beyond their perceived best. Surely that's the great joy of coaching - to lift players beyond even their own expectations.

They sold a player who scored 10 plus goals three seasons running for £10m and bought one who has only had one good season in his entire life for £7m. Seems like a perfectly reasonable amount for someone we'd happily have sold for 500k last summer and is coming to the end of his contract. Thank you Ipswich for making us a nice tidy little profit on a player deemed not good enough by the last three managers.

Paid 1m for him, never really played for us, always had his wages paid by loan club and sold for 7 million - he didn't want to be here, wasn't going to sign a new contract at the end of the season I'm certainly not complaining

The transfer window shuts in a fortnight and we weren't inundated with offers. What was clear was either he had to be sold or sign a new contract and be integrated into the first team squad. He's been here for three years and is 23, it was time to either sh1t or get off the pot.

Collymore Posted 15 August 2017 Posted 15 August 2017 He never did anything in a Leicester shirt. Yes he looked good on loan but was the invisible man at Filbert Way. His level is probably Championship. Leicester and Derby are in different worlds these days. We have ambitions of Europe and they have ambitions of scraping playoffs. £7m is a good price for a player who has offered nothing to us, not one iota of anything over his tenure at the club.

STUHILL Posted 15 August 2017 Posted 15 August 2017 We were patient. He was patient. It hasn't worked out for either of us. Good move for him. I predict he will be a solid top Championship player but struggle to make a meaningful impact in the Prem. We are rightly aiming for top 10 finishes and will need players to be of that calibre. He isn't currently and we can't wait any longer for a maybe and nor can he. Good luck Tom!
